Wally Supercar Concept for the Superyacht Set

Monaco-based boatbuilder Wally, known for its avant-garde yacht designs, is responsible for some of the most eye-catching craft plying the waters. As we reported last year they also make some of the world's coolest high-performance skis. Now Matthew Hockham, an automotive design graduate of the UK's Coventry University, has come up with a Wally supercar concept inspired by both of the company's passions. Hockham's brief was to take Wally's distinctive design language and apply it to a suitably high-end and high-tech automotive concept. "The aim is to bring the essence of Wally onto the land and offer an exclusive user experience," he tells Car Body Design. Hockham's design uses Wally's trademark futuristic form language with sharp edges, black glass surfaces and hi-tech gray tones. The side profile was inspired by the lines of the stunning 118 WallyPower yacht. The interior makes extensive use of carbon fiber and teak, two materials used widely by Wally, and the elongated chassis is especially designed to transport a pair of Wally carbon fiber skis.

Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta Set for Sardinia

On June 8 – 12 Loro Piana, the Italian luxury clothing company known for the world's finest cashmere, will stage its annual Superyacht Regatta in the billionaire's haunt of Sardinia featuring some of the world's fastest sailing yachts. Hosted by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, sponsors include Perini Navi, builder of the famed Maltese Falcon, in partnership with Rolex and Audi. Last year's winner, Royal Huisman's 105-ft. Gliss, will defend her title against several sailing superyachts looking to pluck the prize from her grasp during five intense days of competition. Among the contenders will be Southern Ocean Marine's 105-ft. Liara; Wally's 100-ft. Y3K.; the Ed Dubois-designed, Fitzroy built 148-ft. Salperton IV; Perini Navi's 125-ft. P2; and more yachts measuring 80 feet and up. Apres-sailing there will be an owner's dinner at the yacht club and a beach party at the opulent Hotel Romazzino, part of the Luxury Collection.

Pastrovich Yacht Design, Transformers Of Luxury Yachts

Pastrovich Studio is the designer for the WallyPower range, including the still-otherworldly tri-turbine WallyPower 118. Turns out it also does a fair bit of contract work for individuals, and one of its latest projects is a concept to refit a ship that began life as an ocean-going tug boat, turning it into a luxury yacht.

Conversions of working vessels into motor yachts are nothing new, and heavy lifters like tugs and icebreakers are among those chosen most often for the switch. The 77.4-meter (253.9-foot) hauler dating from 1975, the subject of this retrofit, was designed and built by Germany's Schichau-Unterwesser in Bremerhaven.

Previously used as a support vessel for a luxury yacht in the Middle East, the Pastrovich transformation envisions keeping the 'historical' features intact: the forward superstructure, funnel and two masts. The aft superstructure is reworked to blend into the comprehensive line of the boat, and when it's finished the tug will officially take its place tied at #79 on Superyachts.com's list of largest motor yachts of 2010, right behind it is its sister ship, the tug Lone Ranger – already a luxury yacht that is, also being refitted by Pastrovich.

Wally Carbon Fiber Superyacht Skis

Monaco-based boatbuilder Wally, known for its avant-garde yacht designs, has expanded its range of high-tech, high-performance skis made using carbon fiber technology borrowed from seagoing craft. The collection now includes six different models engineered for a range of expert skiing styles and conditions. Wally's skis are 30% lighter than conventional ones and combine exceptional grip on ice with high performance on powder. The carbon fiber is accompanied by cores of ash and birch wood, titanium accents and steel edging. The models in the range are the Original, Tradition, Magic, Freewally, Minipowder and Wallypowder. At 176 cm long, the new Wallypowder is one of the widest skis ever produced and the only full carbon ski specifically developed for off-piste runs.

Aeroyacht 110 by Wally Comes with Icon A5 Plane

Gregor Tarjan, designer of the Aeroyacht 110, a superfast 110-ft. catamaran equipped with an Icon A5 exploration airplane, has commissioned Monegasque yachtbuilder Wally to construct the avant-garde craft. Representing the first model of a sleek, new range "embodying the ultimate high-performance, supremely styled world yacht," the Aeroyacht 110 will be one of the largest composite multihulls in the world. As standard equipment the craft will come fitted with a two seat Icon A5 amphibious, retractable and fold-able sports plane, launched and retrieved from a specially designed pod. The yacht, which is expected to do 35 knots at full speed, will be ready for delivery in 2011.

Wally and Hermes Partner On Greenish Yacht Concept

The last few years brought a flurry of yacht and luxury brand partnerships. Now we are starting to see the output from these collaborations. Hermes and Wally are showing off a model of a 38-meter-wide yacht the WHY 58x38 (it is 58 meters long by 38 meters wide), which was presented in Ancona, Italy. Obviously this is no ordinary sleek vessel but we'd expect nothing less than mad innovation from Wally.

The yacht has 25-meter interior swimming pool, three decks and a 36-meter "beach" along the back. The large solar panels covering the roof and sides of the vessel could save at least 200 tons of diesel fuel a year. The design of the hull means that the yacht uses less power at cruising speed than another boat of equal size. It has a diesel-electric propulsion system and the solar panels power most of the boat's auxiliary system needs. In a press release, Pierre-Alexis Dumas, Artistic Director of Hermès said: "The WHY 58X38 yacht looks very unfamiliar but it remains on a human scale. Space is the greatest luxury on the sea, but I believe the new luxury will be the time to enjoy it."

Wally Launches Two New Sailing Superyachts

Monegasque yachtbuilder Wally, known for its avant-garde designs, will debut two new sailing superyachts at the Monaco Yacht Show later this month. The Wally 100 Indio (above) is a 30-meter (100-ft.) sloop combining all the amenities of a blue-water cruiser with the performance of a maxi-racer; the sleek 59-ton yacht can do 12 knots amd has a total of six cabins providing accommodation for 10 guests and four crew. The 40-meter Wally 130 has an innovative keel and steering system which makes the 130-footer maneuver like a racing 80-footer. Wally President and CEO Luca Bassani her to be the only cruising yacht in the world that can sail faster upwind than the record-breaking maxi racer Alfa Romeo.

MV Agusta Limited Edition Hydrogen and Wally Bikes

It's always interesting when companies collaborate, and it's no different in the case of Italian motorcycle maker MV Agusta joining forces with both the clothing manufacturer Hydrogen and the luxury boat company Wally. The resulting limited edition bikes are spin-offs of MV Agusta's Brutale 910 and are appropriately called the Hydrogen Brutale 910 R and the Wally Brutale 910 R. Each of the bike designs are unique while still maintaining the lines and beauty that make the Brutale the bike that it is. Only 100 of each model will be produced.

WallyPower 64 Yacht

The latest yacht from Wally is the 64-foot WallyPower 64. The yacht sits at the smaller end of the company's yacht range. The WallyPower 64 offers wider decks than most boats of a similar size. It can be ordered with engines that can do 43 knots or ones that can hit 50 knots. You won't get too far though, the range is just 300 nautical miles.

It is available with several options for the interior with tow or three-cabin layouts. Each cabin has an ensuite shower room. There is a large social area with a dining table than can seat eight and a lounge with a coffee table and an expansive sunbathing area. Wally plans to build six of these new boats each year with the first two scheduled to be delivered by the end of June.

Wally's Latest Yacht Project, The Wally 50M

Last time week we got news of a small Wally yacht. Now check out a larger design. Wally has announced that they have signed up for the largest Wally ever, a 50 meter (164 foot) blue-water sloop. The yacht has the characteristic large lounge areas seen on other Wally yachts. It has a foredeck with a Jacuzzi tub and tow hidden tender garages, the aft deck features the Wally terrace on the sea concept.The flying bridge / sun deck is where you find the helmstations, as well as a dining area for 16 people with sofas and BBQ area. The deckhouse is enclosed in transparent glass and the view from the salon is enhanced by two big portholes in the bulwarks on each side of the yacht. The living spaces have the usually loft-like Wally style. The owner's cabin is in the lower deck and opens onto the terrace on the sea area. There are also four double guest cabins with en-suites. The crew and service is forward and includes the pantry, laundry, galley, crew mess and five double crew cabins. Three diesel generators supply the propulsion power and services and there are two separate engine rooms. This yacht will be delivered in Spring 2010.

WallyNano

The latest design from Wally goes for the small. The adorable WallyNano is a daysailer based on the super yacht Pilgrim Project and designed by Andre Hoek and Luca Bassani.The 36-foot yacht is designed to be classic and fast. it has a lifting keep and a detachable rudder for easy trailering and can be sailed by one person. The yacht has an open cockpit with integrated aft deck to create a large sunbathing area. Inside it has a double bunk in the bow and sofas in the salon that extend into the pilot berth under the cockpit seats. The head is integrated underneath the companionway and there is an optional separate head that takes up one pilot berth. The boat has teak wood soles, exposed carbon hull lining, and white ceilings. Snowwhite will be the first unit of WallyNano and is scheduled for launch in Autumn 2007.

Wally Yacht 143 Esense

We are back in Wally world again for a look at the latest crave-worthy launch. Esense is a Wally 143, a 43 meter (around 140 feet) sailing sloop. The yacht is designed to be both classic and modern and to be used by a reduced crew. The deck layout offers a space much like a converted loft apartment giving a huge open cockpit. The stern has the Terrace on the Sea configuration, a large area set at sea level, which can be reached from the main salon. The salon can also be enlarged by incorporating the two guest cabins. The interior design uses paduk wood and metallic white, with exposed matte carbon for the hanging cabinets and a splash of red on some of the joinery.

Wally Yacht Launches New Y3K

The new 100 foot sloop Y3K from Wally Yacht was recently launched during a private ceremony. The new Y3K is an evolution of the old Y3K yacht, a 94-foot sloop which was sold and re-named Angle's share by her new owners. The new Y3K combines the lines of German Frers with the classic Wally style. The interior configuration is a bit different, the salon is aft and the owner's stateroom is located in the front of the vessel. The new Y3K is currently undergoing sea trails. She will be delivered to her new owner at then end of the month and then head off to Portofino to get ready for her first regatta in May.

Interview: Barton and Gray Fractional Mariners Club

The idea of fractionalizing ownership of expensive things is nothing new; timeshares have been around forever, and companies like Netjets and Flight Options let you own shares in a private jet. And while you can own a share of the 280 Alysia for about $11,000,000, that doesn't seem too practical for casual use. Enter Barton and Gray. They aim to take the hassle out of yacht ownership. Barton and Gray commodore Lyman Perry puts it best, "It has been said that the finest way to boat is to have friends with a yacht, Barton & Gray Mariners Club are your friends with yachts." The WallyIsland

Check out the latest idea from the innovative yachtmakers Wally. The company has created the WallyIsland, a massive 325-foot yacht with a giant main platform which can be home to a garden oasis, a large lounge, a heliport, a tennis court or anything else your imagination desires. The WallyIsland is designed to be configured in a variety of different ways. The WallyIsland has an extra-deep pool and a tower-like configuration of three decks: upper deck, owner deck and bridge deck with three additional decks are in the hull: main deck, cabin deck, service and saloon deck. It has six large cabins that can also be turned into 12 smaller cabins for up to 24 guests and there are 20 double cabins for 40 crew members. A library, cinema, spa and fitness area will help keep everyone entertained. There are also two 45-foot WallyPowers as tenders. After the jump, a look at a couple of the other configurations.
