Princes & Crows Wallpaper's Little Prince Collection

Parisian artist Alix Soubiran created the Princes & Crows line of wallpaper in January 2008. Soubiran is an artist and storyteller, who credits her grandfather, a celebrated French author and recipient of the Theophraste Renaudot literary prize in 1943 for her passion for storytelling and fascination with stunning wall decor. Her book-filled grandfather's house in the 16th arrondissement in Paris inspired her fanciful designs. She has created a line of paper accessories, 19th century style butterflies meant to be positioned and stuck to the walls according to your fancy, as well as wallpapers that are manufactured and produced in the Los Angeles area.

Her latest designs use the beloved tale of "The Little Prince" as inspiration. Taking fanciful look at the fable, the line features deep sea creatures, imaginary birds and unicorns in space. The paper is designed for children's rooms but is more whimsical and classical than cute. Sea Ballet, shown above, was inspired by prehistoric-looking sea creatures and has a little of the feel of a botanical illustration.

Fall Wallpapers From Graham & Brown

Skulls, eyes, bare trees, the latest designs from Graham & Brown wallpaper echo the sombre season. Orange, brown and charcoal gray feature prominently but midnight blue and purple also make their appearance. Designer Amy Butler creates designs inspired by nature and full of vivid color. Legandary fashionista Barbara Hulanicki who founded the retail chain Biba in 1964, creates some of the most intriguing designs including "Antoinette" and "Skulls," a pattern that manages to use the oft-overused skull in a new and understated way. Less understated is the deliciously creepy Witness by Taylor & Wood, shown at right, which sells for $50 a roll.

Louise Body's Wallpaper Designs For Wallpaper Collective

Need a little more nature in your home decor? WallpaperCollective.com is launching UK designer, Louise Body's collection of flora and fauna inspired wallpaper designs. Body is known in the UK for work that not only celebrates green, it is green. All the paper used in the creation of the line is sourced from managed forests where new planting exceeds cut growth. Water-based inks are used in the printing process and the waste which arises from edge trimming is re-cycled at a local mill.

The line includes Autumn Woods a foliage motif inspired by the pressed ferns and flowers found in an old sketch book left to Louise by her grandmother. Other designs (shown in the gallery below) are Birdies, which shows birds in flight; Erotica a design inspired by Aubrey Beardsley's illustrations; Flower Press, a floral design similar to Autumn Woods; Garden Birds with photographic images of common garden birds; Harry's Garden which shows photographic images of birds perched on sketched branches and a classic birdcage; Holy Cow a repeating design of two sketches of water buffalo; Lacey Birdies showing the 'Birdies' motif against a delicate, silver, lace background; Marney's Lace, a design repeating photographic images of lace handed down to Louise by her grandmother and Pavilion Birds a design inspired by the exotic oriental décor of the Royal Pavilion, Brighton. Autumn Woods sells for $115 a roll.

Bremont Pocket Watch For Wallpaper Magazine

Wallpaper magazine's August Handmade section had a few watches in it that are cool. I previously wrote about the Bell & Ross BR01 Radar variation here. England's Bremont also offered an interesting custom watch for the design magazine's spread. They took the look of their Martin Baker and U-2 watches and make a one-of-a-kind Bremont Pocket Watch. Using the same size case as the wrist watch, the pocket watch features a loop for a chain and repositioned crowns (one for winding and the time, and another crown for the internal rotating bezel. Note that this image is of the watch while still in production. The version in the magazine had the inner aluminum section of the watch in bright orange like the Bremont Martin Baker timepieces. The rest of the watch is in steel.

The back of the watch is a compass, designed by Bremont - and makes sense given the aviation theme of the timepiece. Bremont needed to specially engineer the case so that the magnetic compass did not interfere with the watch movement (magnetism can really harm accuracy). Inside the watch is base Swiss ETA 2836 automatic movement. As a design study, the Bremont Pocket Watch is pretty cool, but it actually would make sense in certain situation were wearing a watch might not be feasible. Will Bremont make more of these and offer any to the public? They just might if demand is high enough.

Limited Edition Laser Sailboat

Want a simple boating experience that flaunts your taste and personal style? Wallpaper did, so they commissioned designer Marian Bantjes to come up with a "graphically enhanced Laser class dinghy." The result is this eye-catching limited edition Laser Sailboat that's dizzying design is inspired by the cubist patterns of the First and Second World War 'dazzle' naval camouflage. Able to be easily stowed on the top of a vehicle's roof rack you don't have to a be a serious sailor to own and appreciate this piece of art. Only 12 Laser Sailboats will be produced, each numbered discreetly on the hull and available through Wallpaper for £10,000.

Jonathan Ellery Makes Handmade Bell & Ross Watch For Wallpaper Magazine

For their August "Handmade" issues, Wallpaper magazine is featuring a handmade watch by Jonathan Ellery based on a Bell & Ross BR01 Radar model. The watch will actually be part of a limited edition that will see public sales (at some point). Bell & Ross worked with Mr. Ellery to create the watch, which Ellery chose due to Bell & Ross' iconic status, especially in the design world. The dial is a reworked Radar with a white on black "explosion" motif. I can only guess as to what the hour and minute indicator are. Constantly rotating, the design only becomes clear twice a day. As a designer watch, it is rather fun - though not likely fun to have to read on a daily basis. Then again, this is art, and it doesn't need to be practical.

Marcel Wanders Couture Collection Wallpaper

Marcel Wanders designs a little bit of everything, like ivy-covered swings and Baccarat crystal and now wallpaper for Graham & Brown. Shopping no longer means paging through binder after binder of ugly patterns as there are eight designs in the Marcel Wanders Couture Collection and each one comes in a variety of 'strong colorways and subtle shades,' for example Isabella shown in charcoal above also comes in pink.

The eye catching patterns are printed on Graham & Brown's special clay-coat paper and feature a matte finish with metallic and gloss embellishments. The ability to artistically defy gravity, however, is unfortunately not included. $75 per double roll/bolt.

Lagerfeld, Starck Design Covers for Wallpaper* Magazine

Chanel top man Karl Lagerfeld and designer Philippe Starck will guest-edit the October 2009 issue of interiors title Wallpaper*, according the Guardian.

Lagerfeld has designed a "peelable" cover for the monthly title, which features model Baptiste Giabiconi. Readers can peel back this image to reveal another cover, which shows Giabiconi nude.

Starck, best known for designing high-end hotels, has constructed a transparent front cover using three layers of tracing paper (see it on the Wallpaper* home page).

Lagerfeld and Starck have each edited large sections of the issue, out now. Lagerfeld, also a sought-after photographer, has shot Giabiconi in a variety of historical settings across continental Europe, including Rome and Paris. He also writes about his collection of houses.

Starck is more philosophical, focusing on "mankind's quest to discover the meaning of life and interviewing scientists, physicists and cosmologists," the Guardian said. "It is my mission to make intelligence sexy," Starck said.

Susan Bradley Outdoor Wallpaper

There is no reason why your living room walls should get more attention than your outdoor ones, especially as wall-decor trends tend to favor decals instead of full-wall designs these days. Susan Bradly has designed a line of Outdoor Wallpaper that rectifies this disparity.

Outdoor Wallpaper, much like ordinary wall decals, is meant to act as a decorative accent for the exterior of a home or wall in the garden. Unlike traditional wall papers, it can be made in a wide range of different materials, from stainless steel to wood to perspex. Each piece is custom made to suit individual tastes and specifications on size and design.

Wallpaper Menagerie

You can't bring the zoo home without a permit and animal prints just aren't for everyone, but you can add something a little wild to your decor with Wallpaper Menagerie prints. Created by Dutch designer Inke Heiland, the animals have a "retro charm" to them because the animal shapes they feature have been cut from vintage wallpapers from the 1960s and 1970s, which can accent a room far more attractively than they can cover entire walls. The silhouettes are hand cut and, because they are not decals, must be applied with a brush and paste. The choice of patterns rotates, but some options include chimps, crocodiles, elephants, giraffes and lions. Prices range from $65-$100, depending on size.

Bedazzled Wall Covering

Maya Romanoff's website says "extraordinary surfacing materials" across the top and they aren't kidding. The company offers wall covering for those looking for things that are a world away from wall paper. Delicate inlaid wood that is so thin it can curve around corners, natural silica mica micro-shaved and laminated to a sturdy paper backing, luminous layers of shell or paper-thin gold leaf are just some of the amazing offerings. My favorite is Bedazzled, which is flexible glass bead wallcovering created using a patent-pending process. It is sold in rolls and can be used for a variety of applications. Shiny, colorful, and a lot classier than covering your walls in Swarovksi crystals.

Night Before Christmas Wall D�cor

I'm not sure that I would necessarily want to go for seasonal wallpaper in my own home, no matter how much holiday spirit I had or how good it would look. The commitment is just too big, even if you are only applying the paper to one wall. But the "Night Before Christmas" Wall Décor seems like the perfect decoration, since it looks permanent but is easy to apply and remove. The two-tone silver and copper text is set in adhesive vinyl that can be applied to any blank wall. Best of all, the ultra-thin vinly has a matte finish, so the text actually looks like it is painted directly on the wall. The entire design measures 61" x 50" and the text is prepositioned, so there is no need to worry about getting anything properly aligned. Price: $1,499.

Black Blossom Wallpaper Panel

Forget about trying to cover entire walls with wallpaper or paneling. It is much more fashionable to use wall tattoos or something similar to accent the room without taking it over. The Black Blossom Wallpaper Panel works in the same way, as it only covers a small portion of the room, acting more as artwork than just a wall covering. The blossom design is hand-stitched onto vintage wallpaper and is accented with screen printed images to lend coloring and additional depth. The panels measure 22" x 118" and are mounted on a rod, rather than applied directly to the wall. Price: £1,160.00 ($2,210).

Inhabit Braille Wall Flat

It has been a while since we have seen a new wall flat that we really like, but the Braille Wall Flat from Inhabit is hard to resist. The raised dots on the surface really do look like Braille, although not being familiar with that particular way of writing, I can't say for certain whether it says anything or is just a pretty design. Feel free to comment below if you are familiar with it.

Adhesive tabs are used to attach the flats to the walls and the pattern is very easy to line up to create a seamless look. They are made of molded bamboo pulp paper, and because bamboo is one of the fastest self-replenishing plants in the world, the flats are very eco-friendly. On top of that, they are paintable, so if the slightly off-white base color doesn't match what you had in mind for the room, it is easy to change without loosing the design. The flats are $84 for a box of 10 18"x18" panels.
