Maison Martin Margiela Wooden Wallets

Maison Martin Margiela Wooden WalletsMaison Martin Margiela never fails to surprise us. The always risk-taking fashion house keeps us guessing with what they'll produce next by creating unique and unconventional pieces.

As part of their Spring/Summer 2011 Collection, a set of Wooden Wallets ($425) caught our attention. Made from solid wood with a lacquer finish, the grains are emphasized beautifully. The interior is leather with three credit card slots, three compartments and an elastic to secure your cash. Available in dark and light wood.

Dunhill's $700 Biometric Wallet

Dunhill Biometric WalletThe wallet has traditionally been a low-tech device but not anymore as biometrics is changing the way we carry money. Dunhill has come out with their own version of the Biometric Wallet that promises to keep your money, id, and credit cards safe from thieves even if they pick your pocket. A carbon fiber exterior keeps things light but unbreakable while a biometric finger-print lock keeps the contents under wraps to all but the owner. And for even more high-tech protection you can connect the wallet to your cell phone via Bluetooth and get an alert if the wallet finds itself too far for comfort (i.e. you've been robbed or dropped it somewhere). $700

Bellroy Wallets, It's All In the Details

Bellroy Leather Wallets
Bellroy has a different approach than some to the idea of luxury: they think it's less about flash and bling and more about quality and perfectly designed function. They're a small company that for the time being is almost exclusively focused on men's wallets in an attempt to "improve the way we carry." Bellroy's line of wallets is made with thoughtful details like thinner leather for reduced bulk and strategically designed pocket and tab options for uber-convenient stashing of cards and cash. They have something for everyone, from the super sleek and efficient "Very Small Wallet" to the portfolio-sized "Take Out Wallet" and everything in between. $60-$130

Miu Miu Bird-Print Satin Wallet, Handbag of the Day

Miu Miu Bird Print Satin Wallet
Not a handbag or a clutch, but a wallet this time, it's the Bird-Print Satin Wallet by Miu Miu. Pink birds on black satin make this a pretty and sleek way to carry your cash and cards. A designer logo is all that embellishes the exterior while the interior is lined in black leather (a reverse of the usual leather on the outside and satin on the inside). It has a press-clasp closure, silvertone frame, and hinged bottom with (of course) no straps or handles. $450

Coach Poppy Signature Zip Around Wallet, Handbag of the Day

Coach Poppy Signature Zip Around WalletThe Coach Poppy Signature Zip Around Wallet is a breath of fresh air in a season of dark colors.

This fun little wallet is just 8" by 4" -- small enough to throw into one of your larger bags to avoid depression. Just looking at it makes us smile. It's large enough to hold entire bills and has six credit card pockets and an inside zip pocket for coins. You can use the 14" strap as a wristlet to take this out at night -- and ditch your big bag at work.

The pretty poppy print is adorned with an embossed poppy logo plaque, retro goldtone hardware and metallic leather trim. Adorable.

The Coach Poppy Signature Zip Around Wallet is available from Nordstrom for $158.00.

Isabella Fiore Sail Away Wallets, Handbags of the Day

In fairness, a wallet is not the same thing as a handbag, but larger wallets are similar enough to clutches that we're willing to make an exception for the summery Sail Away Wallet Collection from Isabella Fiore and include them as today's Handbag of the Day post. The seascapes on the wallets have been put together with smooth, multi-colored pieces of leather, giving you four different designs to choose from: a Seahorse, an Anchor, a Starfish and a Shell. Each one measures 7 1/2"W x 3 3/4"H x 3/4"D. Price: $200.

Louis Vuitton Monogram Groom Compact Wallet

Inspired by one of their ads from the 1920s, Louis Vuitton has decided to feature this young "groom" on several of their newest pieces, including this Monogram Groom Compact Wallet. The porter is set on a vibrant stripe of white and blue, and the color is carried to the interior of the wallet, giving it a vibrant a youthful feel, especially when compared to some of the more sedate looks associated with the use of their classic monogram pattern. The wallet has a zip change purse, three credit card slots, two larger slot pockets for business cards or photos and a bill pocket. It snaps securely shut with a golden snap. Price: $540.

Paul Smith World Cup Gear

We already saw designer soccer balls from Takashi Murakami and a whistle chair/sculpture for armchair referees, but Paul Smith has a whole line of products that he developed in celebration of the World Cup. First up is his take on a football, made of fake crocodile skin colored with bright hues. Unfortunately, unlike the Murakami balls, it is not intended to be used as more than a novelty and should not even be taken outdoors. This isn't a problem if you want to toss the ball around while watching the game on TV, though. The ball is £169.

Stingray Wallet

This wallet is made of stingray skin, the same material that Japanese swordsmen use on their weapons, according to Hammacher Schlemmer's web site. I had no idea swordsmen used stringray skin, but apparently the skin is very strong. And unlike a leather wallet, there's no fading or cracking with stringray skin. The wallet has eight credit card slots, a full length divided bill compartment, and two utiltiy pockets. Price: $69.95.

Louis Vuitton Monogram Perforated Wallet

Is perforated leather a new trend for spring? All of a sudden it's everywhere. We've seen it in the bright white Prada loafers, the Isabella Fiore Stud Muffin (yes, white again, another trend for spring) and now in the Louis Vuitton Monogram Perforated series. This wallet has the perforated monogram canvas and a brightly colored microfiber lining that  shows through. It has two separate compartments for bills and credit cards and one for coins. The wallet sells for $540.
