Ventura v-tec Kappa Watch For 2010

A little while ago I talked about how Ventura watches was back from the dead - which you can read about here. I walked by their booth at Baselworld, but didn't have a chance to stop by and chat with founder Pierre Nobs as I was already bogged down with places to go as it was. Shame I missed checking out their new wares. New for 2010 is this Ventura v-tec Kappa watch. Following in the brand's trend of minimalist, luxury quartz watches that help make digital timepieces cool again. The newest version of the v-tec collection was actually designed before the brand's late demise. Now back, Nobbs was likely eager to get the v-tec Kappa (fourth v-tec watch) released. Movement is the interesting VEN_04 quartz movement with an "easy scroll" function selector crown. Not sure if this model also uses a rotor to generate power in the movement as previous models did.

One of the best things about the watch (aside from the style) is the material that it is made in. It uses a Ventura proprietary titanium alloy with special coatings called Titanox. Unlike normal titanium which is scratch and finger print prone, Titanox resists both, while retaining the lightness that titanium is known for. The design of the watch has it so that the case is tilted at a slight angle for easier reading when looking at your wrist without having to turn it as much. The high quality negative LCD screen has sharp looking, bold digital numerals. You can get the watch in a lighter or darker case color, with at least two strap styles including a Titanox bracelet. Prices aren't too much, and start at about 920 euros. Available starting this summer. Click below for more images.

The Return Of Ventura Watches

A few years ago a watch brand I quite liked declared bankruptcy to be gone forever. This was before the big luxury bubble burst occurred, and I was quite sure that the demise of Ventura watches was a sign of what was to come - it was. But Ventura wasn't some overinflated pseudo luxury brand. They made fine and unique watches with a distinct modern, minimalist, and Bauhaus twist to them. They are likely most famous for their MGS (micro generation system) watches that use an automatic rotor to generate electricity for a quartz digital movement, just like a Seiko Kinetic watch works. Seen above is one of those watches.

Recent reports show that the Ventura brand is back, and with its original founder Pierre Nobs at the helm. New funding will get the brand up and running again soon. Ventura is known for their luxury quartz and mechanical watches - so it is unclear what some of the first models will be. Likely a new release of existing popular models with a few new things as well. Good news is that Ventura will be a modern brand, meaning they will make their watches available online from their (not yet released) website. This is good news to the many people who prefer to buy watches online (myself included). Prices for Ventura watches was (and will most likely be) about $1,500 - $5,000. No specific time line to their revival, but I'll keep you updated.

Lindsay Davenport in Ventura, Estate of the Day

The Real Estalker Mama delivered a double dose of tennis real estate news this weekend with two homes from Lindsay Davenport. The Wimbledon winner owns two beautiful homes in Southern California that are now for sale. The first is one of two that they own in pricey Laguna Beach, California. The five-bedroom home in the Emerald Bay area is listed for $6.395 million.

The more charming, albeit smaller, home that Davenport and her husband Jon Leach have for sale is further north in Ventura. This home is a three-bedroom beach front home with 60 feet of ocean frontage. The Cape Cod style home is a modest getaway measuring under 2,000 square feet. The home is in a gated community that includes a pair of tennis courts. The home has a great central living area that faces the ocean. Anytime you can snuggle up in front of a fireplace and get a view of the ocean it's wonderful and bonus points to the couple for putting the television next to, and not above, the fireplace. The home is adorable but small, and the price of $5.5 million seems, even taking the location into account, a mite ambitious.

Ventura Watches Baselworld Preview

Ventura, a Swiss company known for its digital watches has two new models they are bringing to Baselworld next month. The first is the v-tec Kappa designed by Swiss architect and designer Hannes Wettstein. It has a titanium case that is put under a vacuum and submitted to high pressures and heat then cooled by liquid nitrogen and then given a liquid glass coating to protect it from scratches. The watches uses Ventura's VEN_04 movement which has a single scrolling cylinder that allows access to all functions. And the watches have an display that uses numbers with 229 segments rather than the basic seven segments for a smoother look. The Kappa will sell for around $2,000.

The v-tec Zeta was designed by Paolo Fancelli, who also designed the v-tec Sigma. The Zeta is meant to be a smaller version of the Sigma to be worn by women or men who want less of a wrist dominator. Some Zeta versions will feature composite-cases, combining Durinox steel and Bakelite-like resin. It uses the same VEN_04 movement caliber with the single scrolling cylinder and sells for around $1,600. Pics of the Zeta and the black version of the Kappa after the jump.

Solimar Beach Drive, Estate of the Day

There is not a lot of talk about Solimar Beach Colony, a community up the California coastline a bit from Malibu but this gated area in Ventura offers similar stunning Pacific views. The home shown here is oceanfront in the Solimar Beach Colony and has approximately 80' of beachfront. The design style is a bit off kilter, a modern Mediterranean with a great room that faces the ocean and five bedrooms, some of which have sloping ceilings. The home also has a custom music studio area, an office and a large garage. It is listed at $8.5 million. After the jump, time to play guess the musician.

V-Tec Sigma Watch

This strange looking watch is from Ventura, a Swiss company that focuses on digital watches. The v-tec Sigma is has a digital watch which uses Ventura's EasySkroll® operating system that offers easy-to-use functions you don't need a manual to figure out. It has an easily readable screen that uses the "Ventura" font and has a backlight. The case is made of Durinox®, a scratch-resistant stainless steel, and the liquid-crystal display is behind a sapphire crystal. The watch uses a long-life lithium battery. Another version with a micro generator instead of a battery is in the works. The v-tec Sigma will be shown at Baselworld and will be available on the market in June for $1,750.
