'Twilight' Author Makes $40 Million Without Writing a Single Book

Despite not having written a single book in the past year, Twilight author Stephenie Meyer raked in an eye-popping $40 million from her sexy vampire tales, Forbes reports. Meyer landed the second place spot on the magazine's new ranking of the world's highest paid authors, easily eclipsing Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling. About $7 million of Meyer's 2009 windfall came from movies adapted from the Twilight series, with most of the balance attributable to previously published works. In June the third Twilight adaptation made $175 million in its first six days. Meyer still has a long way to go to catch up with the world's highest paid author, James Patterson, who snagged the #1 spot with a whopping $70 million paycheck. Unlike Meyer however, Patterson has to keep churning out thrillers; he's contracted to produce another 17 books by the end of 2012. Stephen King placed third on the list with $34 million, while Rowling languishes in last place with a measly $10 million. Of course she's already a billionaire.

RSVIP: Private Cinema Society Screening of "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse"

kristen stewart and taylor lautnerYou're invited . . . shhh. Founded in 2005 by Andrew Saffir, a former Ralph Lauren executive, the Cinema Society of Manhattan has evolved into a clubby gathering of like-minded celebrities and socials who convene in luxury venues to debut small films.

A-listers such as Cate Blanchett, Daniel Craig, Penelope Cruz, Scarlett Johansson, Jude Law, Madonna, Demi Moore, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Naomi Watts, bring smaller, specialized projects to the Cinema Society. Likewise, films that draw excess attention, such as "The Twilight Saga," may use the privacy of a smaller Cinema Society gathering to screen a film with a select group in a setting that doesn't require Biblical-scale crowd control.

The entire cast, including Robert Pattinson, attended the Cinema Society launch of "New Moon." But, as only two cast members were attending "Eclipse," Summit Entertainment was only required to line one block with stanchions to hold back onlookers.

Piaget sponsored "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" on Monday, June 28, with the thought of connecting to an affluent youth audience. "Please keep details of the evening completely confidential beforehand," mentioned the Luxist invite. The secret location: The boutique Crosby Street Hotel in SoHo, which boasts a well-appointed but discreet screening room at basement level.

"Piaget was founded in 1874 in a small village in Switzerland's Jura Mountains," Larry Boland, Piaget North America President, told Luxist. "There, the name Piaget is like Smith here," he quipped.

Bremont Watches Spread In Hollywood - Now Worn By Taylor Lautner

I just recently reported that Tom Cruise has been known to enjoy his Bremont ALT1-C watch and brandish it about town. Funny enough, Taylor Lautner from the Twilight movies has just been seen wearing the exact same watch Bremont ALT1-C watch, with the same anthracite colored dial. Here Taylor is at the premiere of the new Twilight movie with his Bremont.

I quite wonder how word spreads about watches like this within the celeb community. I can't image Tom Cruise likes to hang out with Mr. Lautner - but they aren't the only ones in Hollywood with Bremont - that seems to one of the hot new timepiece brands for the movie star elite these days.

Twilight New Moon Engagement Ring
Twilight Eclipse is set to hit theaters this June and now true fans can have their own little piece if it by buying their very own copy of the engagement ring Edward gives to Bella. Co-designed by Twilight author Stephanie Meyer and Infinite Jewelry Co., the ring appears just as it's described in the book: a domed-oval gold ring with brilliant cut diamonds. Handmade by artisans with an open-work gallery and 13 diamonds totaling approximately 1.06 carats, the ring is available 14k yellow or white gold for $1,979.

Infinite Jewelry Co. also offers two less expensive versions of the engagement ring, "fine" for $479 (CZ instead of diamonds) and "fashion" for $35 (CZ and gold plating), along with other Twilight-inspired jewelry pieces like Bella's bracelet and a necklace representing her broken heart.

The Cullen House, Estate of the Day

The last time that I checked out the website of real estate agent Jason Soprovich it was to check out a home used in a movie and that's what brings me there today as well. Today's estate has made the rounds on a variety of websites in anticipation of the latest installment of the Twilight saga, New Moon, which is about to hit theaters. The modern Vancouver home plays home to the Cullen family on the big screen and is featured in a scene in the movie in which Edward Cullen's adopted brother Jasper attempts to attack Bella Swan.

The five-bedroom home in West Vancouver was designed by Arthur Erickson and was totally renovated in 2001. It has a great room with 20-foot ceilings, massive picture windows and lots of blonde wood. The modern kitchen has a curved fireplace and gleaming countertops. The master suite includes a bathroom with a soaking tub and glass cabinet shower. For warmer weather there is a pool outdoors. This home is listed at $3,298,000.

[Thanks, John!]
