Travel + Leisure's Annual List of the World's 500 Best Hotels
On December 16, Travel + Leisure revealed its annual list of the 500 best hotels in the world. There are at least 10 properties that are new to the list this year. In addition, there are 66 properties on the 2010 T+L 500 that offer rooms for $250 a night or less. T+L editors also spotlight the 500 hotels with notable rooftop scenes, culinary excursions, and wildlife treks. You can look up hotels by region (United States as well as abroad) or get started by checking out the top 50.

Based on readers' ratings, the 2010 T+L 500 is a guide to the top places to stay in six continents and also is featured in the January 2010 issue of Travel + Leisure. Beyond the guide in the magazine, which lists each property by region and includes each hotel's score, an overall description with contact information and starting room rates, TravelandLeisure.com has added information about these top properties, including the best rooms to book, amenities, exclusive T+L 500 hotel deals, and more.

Ten of the twenty-five are new to the list this year which is a surprisingly large number. Each property was graded on the following six categories in order of importance: golf amenity; residential architecture and style; location, including natural setting and proximity to cultural activities; management, service and programming options; non-golf amenities, such as a full service spa, equestrian center or marina; and environmental stewardship. Oberoi Udaivilas Is The World's Best Hotel

Travel + Leisure has released their World's Best Awards 2007 winners and the top hotel is the Oberoi Udaivilas in Udaipur, India. They were ranked the best hotel in the world with the highest overall score of 94.36. The palace hotel on the banks of Lake Pichola and is reached via boat. The resort includes fountains, pavilions, pools and balconies and is also home to a lavish luxury spa. The hotel includes 63 Premier rooms, 19 superior Premier rooms with a semi-private moated pool, and three luxury suites with a private infinity pools, tented dining pavilions and a view of the City Palace horizon. The most lavish suite is the Kohinoor Suite with 2,650 square feet of space includes fountained courtyards, a large private pool, sitting room with real fireplaces, and a master suite with its own wooden sauna.

The "It List" has the Top 25 New Hotels

Travel and Leisure's Top 500 Hotels

If you are already planning where to spend your next holiday you may want to check out Travel + Leisure magazine's list of the 500 greatest hotels in the world which will appear in the January 2007 issue. This is the fifth year of the list and features 81 new properties to check out. While California has the most hotels on the list, Chicago has the highest rated hotels. And it's no surprise that the most expensive hotels on the list are in New York City, averaging a steep $740 per night. The most affordable city in Europe is Istanbul where the hotels average $436 a night, way up from 2003 when Istanbul hotels averaged $285 a night.
