Harley Davidson x Bell & Ross Bespoke Superbike

Harley Davidson x Bell & Ross Bespoke Superbike
Bell & Ross watches and the UK's leading Harley-Davidson customizer have teamed up on a bespoke superbike inspired by Bell & Ross' beautiful timepieces. The Nascafe Racer modified by Shaw Harley-Davidson applies Bell & Ross' principles of impeccable performance, precision and engineering. The way that the master watchmakers develop and assemble their timepieces was reflected by the Shaw Harley-Davidson master technicians when building the bike, which is based on the "long, low and naked" Harley-Davidson FXSTB Softail Nightrain.

To begin with the motorcycle was totally stripped down to every last nut and bolt. The Shaw Speed and Custom team then mounted a Bell & Ross BR 01 Carbon timepiece in a handcrafted center console using a machined section of aluminum. A combination of anodized blue, carbon and stealth-like matte black custom paint was then used on the bike to reflect the watch's design, along with Bell & Ross logo detailing. The compelling creation was unveiled at the London International Custom Bike Show.

David Yurman "The Classic" Ladies Watch

Filed under: Timepieces / Watches, Luxury Shopping

David Yurman
Still haven't gotten her something for Valentine's day (I know I haven't)? Well here is another option that shouldn't be too tough to find given David Yurman's pretty good distribution. This is "The Classic" watch that comes in 30mm wide and 38mm wide styles in steel or gold, or steel and gold. The name could be better (no idea who they trademarked "Classic"), but the styling is is certainly acceptable. The easy-to-read dial comes with optional diamonds (either all or mixed with Roman numerals), and is mother of pearl. Inside the watch is a Swiss quartz movement, and you can get the watch with the steel bracelet (my choice) or with an alligator strap. Price as seen is $2,600.

Ltd. Edition Sir Edmund Hillary Rolex Explorer
Last month we reported that a collection of classic Rolex watches belonging to Mt. Everest conqueror Sir Edmund Hillary was headed to auction. If you didn't manage to snag one of the precious timepieces, there's another chance to pay horological homage to the great adventurer. The new Hillary Tenzing Explorer Series is a limited edition of three variations on the classic Rolex Explorer worn by Sir Edmund on his historic climb in 1953. Priced at $39,000 and limited to just 88 examples, the watch (above) is also named after Sherpa Tenzing Norgay who made the Everest ascent with him.

Created by the same company who brought out the Jaques Picard SingleRed DeepSea Rolex model in 2008, the watches were designed in close cooperation with Peter Hillary and Jamling Tenzing Norgay, sons of the famous mountaineers and acclaimed adventurers themselves. Each will come packaged in a custom packing crate modeled on the one that accompanied Hillary to Everest along with various accessories including bespoke shell cordovan NATO watch straps and a pair of hiking boots modeled on the ones worn by the famed explorer.

Watch Care: How to Clean and Maintain Your Watch

An 18K rose gold Cartier Women's Santos Watch with a diamond bezel.
A watch is an object of exceptional complication and beauty that requires regular care to work properly. Standard maintenance includes safeguarding the movement, protecting the watch from water damage and cleaning the case and band. The following tips will help you care for and preserve your timepieces for generations to come:

How to care for watches with a manual mechanical movement
For watches with a manual (or hand-wound) mechanical movement, be sure to wind the watch once a day, at the same time of day. Be careful not to over-wind the watch. Stop winding the watch as soon as you feel resistance---this indicates the spring has reached maximum tension.

How to care for watches with an automatic movement
If you own a watch with automatic (or self-winding) mechanical movements, be sure to wind the watch once every two weeks if it is worn daily. Wind the watch twice weekly if it is not worn daily.

How to care for watches with quartz movements
If your watch has a quartz movement, you should remove worn batteries and replace them every few years, according to Eli Katz, president of Ashford.com, the leading online retailer of luxury watches. When wearing your watch, it is very important to avoid equipment that create a strong magnetic field, such as speakers, mobile phones and metal detectors. Extreme temperature changes and humid environments, such as showers, hot tubs and saunas, can be harmful for your watch. Damage can also be caused by violent shocks such as dropping the watch as well as activities that require repetitive arm motion (unless the watch was designed for it). Exposure to these risks can negatively affect the movement performance.

The earliest model in the collection is a Rolex Oyster Perpetual, ref. 6084, dating from 1953 (above) which was presented to Sir Edmund by Rolex Bosecks of Calcutta, India after his descent from Everest.

It was then worn by him during the Trans-Antarctic Expedition of 1955-1958 – the first overland crossing of Antarctica and the first expedition to reach the South Pole since Scott in 1912 – and as such it has immense historic significance. The watch, with a caseback engraved "Sir E. Hillary", is conservatively estimated to fetch up to about $20,000. Unearthen Vintage Crystal Watch

Filed under: Jewelry, Timepieces / Watches

The Crystal Watch by Unearthen ($495) instantly caught my eye with its funky strap design and bracelet-like quality. It reminds me of one those unexpected finds after hours of rummaging through a thrift store. The strap is made with skinny gold cylinders that gradually increase in size as it meets the face of the watch accented with little balls running along the edge.

While it may not the easiest watch to tell you the time, I've been staring at for days and cannot figure it out, it certainly makes for a unique accessory. It's vintage aesthetic makes for a timepiece that you could wear for years. Pair with a casual outfit of jean shorts, a t-shirt and flats or dress it up with a summer dress for an evening out for dinner and drinks. Strap measurements: 1 1/2" W at widest point.

Equipe Watches Offers Automotive Timepieces for the Everyman

Filed under: Timepieces / Watches, Luxury Cars & Autos

equipe watches
Automotive-themed timepieces share a lot with the cars from which they draw their inspiration, from the precision-crafted mechanics inside to the evocative metalwork into which they're placed. Unfortunately for many, they also tend to carry very automobile-like price tags in multiples of thousands of dollars. As with the cars they produce – many of which can give Europe's finest a real run for their money, whether on road or track – Detroit has come up with the answer. Or an answer, at any rate.

The range recently unveiled by Equipe Watches at this year's BaselWorld watch show are all automotive-inspired. But instead of four, five or even six-figure price tags, Equipe's Japanese-movement products sell for the hundreds. There's fifteen models in all, each very automotive in its name and design. And while the wealthy motorist bringing his Aston Martin in for service may not be sporting one on his wrist, the mechanic in the service bag very well might be.

Porsche Design P'6780 Diver

porsche design watch

Sure they may sound similar, but the differences between a driver's watch and a diver's watch are vast. Porsche Design is certainly familiar with the former, but this is only their second attempt at the latter.

The P'6780, which follows the design studio's numeric nomenclature, is designed around one innovative feature: in order to protect the case from shocks and bumps, and prevent the crown from being turned during the course of underwater activities, the movement encased in its stainless steel cylinder mounts into a titanium bracket to which the rubber wrist straps are attached, and hinges forward for access. Neat trick, and also gives the timepiece a rugged look uncharacteristic of the company known for its smooth, uncluttered designs.
