The sole is made from polyurethane, which will not give you as much flexibility when walking compared to a rubber sole, however, it gives enough flexibility that they don't feel stiff. The front buttons are purely for decoration, giving a military inspired look, while the side zipper and goring eliminate the work that goes with putting on slip-on tall boots.
