Falabella Faux Leather Wristlet Bag, Handbag of the Day

Stella McCartney Faux Leather Falabella Wristlet Handbag
Few do faux leather as well as Stella McCartney, and this reincarnation of her Falabella style is no exception. The ultra-thin style doesn't leave much room for stashing any but the most basic of necessities but the sophisticated rocker-glam vibe it puts off is more than worth it. The Falabella Faux Leather Wristlet Bag is all bright Ecru faux leather and gleaming gunmetal hardware, plus a little designer-stamped tag and some whipstitching details. It has a zip-top closure and is fully lined inside in designer-stamped twill. $380

Stella McCartney Falabella Citrus-Print Clutch, Handbag of the Day

Stella McCartney Falabella citrus-print cotton clutch
Welcome spring with this vibrant and fruity Falabella Citrus-Print Cotton Clutch from Stella McCartney. It's a simple cotton fold-over clutch but gets an edgy contemporary upgrade from a gold hardware rectangular cutout with nail-detailed gold trim that serves as an adornment, or a handle if you carry it in true falabella style. Other features include a gold chain shoulder strap (attached to the interior), one internal zip pocket, and an olive green canvas lining. A fresh burst of whimsy perfect for wearing with a white sundress while sipping lemonade. $795

Botanical Print Flap Wall Falabella, Handbag of the Day

Stella McCartney Falabella Wallet
Technically this Botanical Print Flap Wall Falabella by Stella McCartney is a wallet but I don't see any reason a girl couldn't carry it as a pretty floral clutch if she was so inclined. It's made of eco-cotton in a bright, floral print in whites, reds and browns with an exaggerated silvertone chain trim 'stiched' around the edges. It was made to be a wallet so it's fold-over flap styling is very flat and narrow, with the inside separated by a central divider and featuring wall pockets and credit card slots galore, and of course it has strap or handles. $645

The Fashion Statement: Designer Kids Lines Boom

Filed under: Charity, The Fashion Statement

A week ago, I wrote about the hordes of celebrities with baby bumps on the red carpet during awards season. Well, designers must have been some kind of soothsayers, because several spent a good part of last year developing and launching children lines. Soon, they will no doubt see the fruits of their labor (sorry), as more and more of these privileged babies are born.

Jennifer Lopez's twins, Max and Emme, were the stars of Gucci's advertising campaign to publicize its designer munchkin wear (0 to 8 year-olds) which debuted late last year. Lopez said this week she only agreed to let her kids be photographed because it was for a good cause. Gucci pledged $1 million to UNICEF's Schools for Africa initiative.

Stella McCartney Faux Leather Bag
Kudos to Stella McCartney for making faux leather a legitimate fashion option. Here we have her Fold-Over Canvas Faux Leather bag and with its cream canvas with light brown trim it could be a little tricky to carry yet this winter but will certainly be versatile come spring. The fold-over front features double cut-outs that can be used as top handles, and/or the bag can also be carried cross-body via the detachable shoulder strap. Besides that it has a small silver charm on the outside and inside its lined in signature-printed twill and has two handy pockets. $1,125

The Fashion Statement: Countdown to Royal Wedding

As more details of the royal wedding emerged yesterday -- including the start time ( 11 a.m. on April 29) -- there was, of course, more talk of the dress. Unless there's a press leak the size of a geyser, none of us will know what the bridal gown will look like until that fine spring day. Still, it's fun to speculate and when it comes to designers, there's been plenty of chatter on both sides of the pond. According to the bookies, here's where things stand.

Phillipa Lepley's shop (pictured above) has been under the magnifying glass since bookies first noticed real money being bet on the British designer who's known for simple silhouettes and top-notch fabrics. Another bookie favorite? WWD reported last month that Irish bookmaker Paddy Power says odds are 1-3 that British designer Bruce Oldfield will be Kate Middleton's choice, "and that it has suspended betting on the designer due to a recent 'flurry of big-stake bets' of more than 500 pounds, or $780 at current exchange." Oldfield has dressed everybody from Rihanna to Barbara Streisand. Jasper Conran, who's had his own made-to-measure bridal collection since 2007, is another name being thrown about.

Sadly, Alexander McQueen is not around. If the bride was me, he would be my first choice. Then again, it was rumored McQueen once embroidered the c-word inside Prince Charles' jacket. "I didn't embroider it, I wouldn't waste my time! I wrote it with a biro," he later admitted. Okay, so maybe that wouldn't be the greatest move in father-in-law relations.

Stella McCartney Glossed-Nylon Shopping Bag, Handbag of the Day

Stella McCartney Nylong Shopping Bag
Nylon has never looked so cute. A refreshing departure from leather and a seasonless carry-all, this Glossed-Nylon Shopping Bag from Stella McCartney has a relaxed, crinkled shape that pops in bold "cosmos" blue. The highly-glossed nylon begs to be touched (I bet even strangers reach out) and looks a bit like slouchy patent leather. Zip-detailed edges open to expand for a little more room should you need it, plus it has double canvas top handles, silver hardware, and is fully lined in off-white. One of my favorite casual bags in awhile. $785

Embossed Faux-Leather Saddle Bag, Handbag of the Day

Stella McCartney Saddle Bag
Good for Stella McCartney for going faux on this Embossed Faux-Leather Saddle Bag. It still looks luxe but is a little greener and more humane than its leather counterparts. This earth-toned casual beauty is made of dark green embossed faux-leather with a detachable olive green patent leather shoulder strap. The two fold-over flap fronts open independently of each other and close via press stud fastenings, there's a small logo-bearing disc attached to the shoulder strap, and the interior is lined in embossed satin and has one zip pocket. $1,045

The Debut of Stella McCartney Kids

Stella McCartney is no stranger to designing children's clothing. Her collaboration with Gap produced child-friendly yet fashionably designed clothing that appealed to both children and their parents. It was an opportunity for children to showcase their own personal style (with a little assistance from mom and dad of course) without having to be a walking billboard for mass marketed cartoons. Needless to say - it was an instant success.

Ms McCartney has taken the plunge to produce her own children's line – fittingly named Stella McCartney Kids. Scheduled to launch on 11.3.10, the line will include styles for both girls and boys ranging from newborn to 12 years old. According to The Cut, the price range's from $20 t-shirts to $155 coats. The line exudes a clean and ultra modern aesthetic creating timeless pieces for fashionable hand-me-downs.

Be sure to sign up for an exclusive e-lookbook here that will be available to you on 10.27.10.

Stella McCartney Renee Sweater Jacket

Oversized collars add intrigue and depth to a sweater and jacket. It makes for an interesting and stylish touch that goes beyond trends. And it's this particular element in Stella McCartney's Renee Sweater Jacket ($1195) that made me take notice. The oversized collar can be zipped up and folded over for a very structured look, or wear slightly zipped up and have the collar fan out over your shoulders. The majority of the coat is in a ribbed sweater knit with camel wool around the chest and midriff. While the collar is voluminous, the sweater jacket's silhouette is rather slim and close fitting making for a balanced look of contrasting cuts.

Stella McCartney Zip Up Cardigan

A sweater can't get any cozier and stylish than Stella McCartney's Zip Up Cardigan ($1635). It is slightly bulky in the bodice and roomy in the arms. The oversized neck - when zipped up - can either fold beautifully around your shoulders creating a cocoon effect or hang in excess at your chest. McCartney's warm and luxurious sweater has a banded hem and wrists completing its oversized yet sleek silhouette. And the pockets are perfect for snuggling into your sweater during those spine-bending-cold Fall and Winter days. Pair with leggings or jeans and tall flat boots for a casual yet chic outfit.

The Fashion Statement: Lanvin at H&M!

I can see the lines snaking around the block now! H&M confirmed it: Men and women will be able to get themselves some Lanvin at about 200 H&M stores on Nov. 23, according to Women's Wear Daily.

Word broke yesterday that the sizzling hot Paris label may be collaborating with cheap chic retailer H&M. Fashion industry bible WWD reported that the Swedish retailer was expected to announce plans with Lanvin and its creative director Alber Elbaz within the coming week.

Upon hearing the news yesterday, the fashion blogs went nuts, writing things like "Yes, Please!" and "Cross your fingers." Even a few well-heeled ladies I talked to vowed they would pick up a piece or ten from the capsule collection.

To wet our appetites, H&M has been posting 23-second highly stylized black and white videos on Facebook and Youtube. Quotes from a mystery designer comes through the mouths of male and female actors captured in flashing images that show everything but an actual face. Initially, the rumor mill focused on Tomas Maier of Bottega Venetta and Carolina Herrera as possible originators of the quotes. Then, WWD wrote yesterday: "While the camera never lingers on the faces long enough for recognition in the clips, the voice-over of designer musings, while electronically altered, are unmistakable Elbaz-isms."

The Fashion Statement: Fashion's Night Out

The fashion world is buzzing about September 10. That's when people like Vogue chief Anna Wintour, Donna Karan, New York City Mayor Bloomberg and members of the Council of Fashion Designers of America will hang out with mere mortals like you and me at stores and boutiques in NYC.

The point? Shopping. And it's a boost to retailers, fashion designers and ultimately the whole fashion industry that has been pummeled of late.

This year's extravaganza is apparently bigger than last year's. On a geographical scale, it certainly is, with events planned for stores in Los Angeles, Paris, Milan and London. Okay, you expect those cities. But Fashion's Night Out is also popping up in unexpected destinations around the globe. Jamaica? China? India? Apparently so.

Aside from shopping, or at least window shopping, Fashion's Night Out is chance for non-fashion industry people to get a glimpse of what a real invitation-only fashion industry party is like. Doesn't hurt that September 10 is the start of New York fashion week, so everybody will be in town. And, this year, there will be cameras around filming for a CBS Special.

Last year, Bergdorf Goodman was a madhouse. Victoria Beckham and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were there, along with designers Georgina Chapman, Mark Badgley and James Mischka and Zac Posen. Charlize Theron showed up at Dior, Kate Hudson at Stella McCartney.

The Fashion Statement: Short Cuts

Who likes short shorts?

Apparently everybody, as evidenced by the number of cropped breeches seen on the catwalks and red carpet recently. Ciara, Gwyneth, Nicole and a host of other celebrities have taken shorts out for a spin on the crimson. It doesn't seem to matter much whether it's cold outside or not. In fact, it was bitingly cold during fashion week in New York in February when Kylie Minogue decided to grace the front row in shiny black vinyl shorts.

Shorts have been around for centuries, of course. The descendants of kilts and togas, they were the look for young school boys. Soldiers stationed in hot places like Bermuda adopted the look for relief from the heat which then quickly influenced civilians. Women followed later. Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe and Jackie O. were often photographed in shorts.

Once only appropriate to wear starting this weekend (Memorial Day) through Labor Day, cut to today and the look is so prevalent almost every designer inserted a pair of shorts in his or her fall/winter collections. A few highlights: If one were to wear shorts on to the North Pole, Chanel had an option-gray fur shorts with furry boots and a patterned ski sweater. Salvatore Ferragamo struck a '70s vibe with rust leather shorts shown under a rust suede maxi coat and brown belted cable knit sweater and further punctuated with rust suede boots and a brown cable knit cap. Dolce & Gabbana had shorts you could wear to a meeting on Wall Street-a mauve boiled wool short suit with the knee length shorts, cuffed and modest.

Stella McCartney Wooden Accordion Clutch
Now here's a statement piece. It's the Wooden Accordion Clutch by Stella McCartney and it features accordion-style wooden panels generously spaced to showcase an antique-rose satin pouch inside. A long goldtone chain shoulder strap makes this clutch a little easier to carry while gold ball details accent the hinges and a logo embossed disc dangles off one side. The interior pouch is removable, although it will be difficult to carry anything smaller than a scarf or hairbrush without it. Bring a little urban safari to your evening look for $2,045.
