Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Van Service from Brilliant Transportation

Increasingly concerned with comfort and less with some stodgy image, luxury buyers are ditching the traditional limousine in favor of more commodious modes of transportation. A few months ago, we brought you news of the exclusive Sprinter Grand Edition from Mercedes-Benz Manhattan, but if laying out $190,000 for the privilege of riding in an opulent van doesn't strike you as a smart buy, you may want to turn to Brilliant Transportation.

The luxury shuttle service operates fleets in New York and Los Angeles. Its vans -- based on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter -- may look like delivery trucks, but inside they're more luxurious than a Maybach.

Four leather arm chairs and a plush rear bench distinguish the interior, along with a pair of 32-inch flat-screen televisions, with wireless headphones, satellite TV and an eight-speaker sound system. There's also wireless internet on board, a color printer and speaker phone.

If you're chartering a jet from coast to coast, we couldn't think of a better way to get to and from the airport on either end.

Sprinter Grand Edition by Mercedes-Benz Manhattan

Some like to flaunt their luxury, and some like to keep it private. Mercedes-Benz offers no lack of options for the former, but for the latter there's the Sprinter Grand Edition.

Based on the common utility van and offered exclusively by Mercedes-Benz Manhattan, the Sprinter Grand Edition is equipped like a private jet, with reclining massage chairs, DVD player, 32-inch flat-panel televisions, wireless internet, a 30,000-BTU air conditioning system, air ride suspension...the works. But its list price of $190,000 puts it in the same stratosphere as the top-of-the-line S65 AMG performance sedan and SLS AMG supercar.

Sprinter Van to Make 20,000-Mile Journey

April showers are meant to bring May flowers, but other than that and Iron Man 2, May is a holding-pattern month while we wait for the summertime action of June, July and August. Well, it's a holding pattern for some – for Rob and Jan Wilson it's nothing of the kind. The self-described empty nesters have laid hold of a Daimler Sprinter van (we knew it as the Dodge Sprinter until recently), got it fitted out by Airstream and are driving the country to visit 50 national parks.

Called the Sprinter Tour 2010, Rob, an author and photographer, has let loose some fabulous photos of the ground covered so far in the first 11 days. No, it's not quite a U2 rockabout, but it might give you some ideas of what to do with your Summer and Fall and Winter, since they'll be on the road doing 20,000 miles from now to November 30. We might start out with a tour of just the Sprinter 3500; with a bedroom, dining area, bathroom and Carrier air conditioning, our driveway might be as far as we need to go to live well.
