Five Fabulous Things to Do On A Ski Trip Without the Skis in Park City, Utah

You don't have to ski or snowboard to have a good time in Park City, Utah. Besides the Sundance Film Festival and all things Robert Redford, there are a slew of other fabulous ways to spend your days and nights in the resort town. Park City proves itself well in the luxury category.

We put together a list of ways to live well in the city known for having the "Greatest Snow On Earth" (and being the site of a few scenes in Dumb and Dumber), and all without having to ever put on those godforsaken foot and calf-suffocating ski boots.

Apres Ski
In a way, resort hopping the apres ski scene is Park City's other great sporting event. The French term specifically refers to the drinking and revelry that ensues after a long day of skiing or snowboarding. The art of the cocktail is nothing to scoff at in snow country and up in these mountains the Mormon influence shunning drinking and nightlife is forgotten. Alta Resort's Sitzmark Bar is a classic. Off-resort, check out High West Distillery and Saloon. They make their own whiskey and vodka and have a killer, innovative cocktail list with drinks like the High West Silver Julep using High West's Silver Oat Whiskey and Rendezvous Rye. Park City's Main Street features a collection of classic, mountain and Western motif bars and nightclubs like No Name Saloon, The Sidecar, and The Spur. There's also Downstairs, owned by Danny Masterson of "That 70s Show" fame, a hip rocker lounge that celebrities typically flock to when they're in town.

Shop
Ski bunny fashion is no joke in Park City. Locals and pros sport some of the slickest and brightest colored gear and pseudo-gear from brands like The North Face, Patagonia, and Lululemon, or, hanging in resort shopping areas in Park City Mountain Resort, Deer Valley Resort and The Canyons. It's hard to resist not purchasing a brilliant blue fleece when witness to everyone else looking fashionably ski hip. There's shopping too for the fashion-forward who prefer to wear something that's also stylish away from the resorts. Along Main Street are adorable boutiques like Bunya Bunya and Mary Jane's with clothing and accessories handmade by local artists and independent designers. Park City also has the largest collection of factory outlet stores in northern Utah.

Tory Burch Opens Flagship Boutique on New Bond Street in London

Fashion house Tory Burch has opened a new boutique on New Bond Street in London.

The 4200-square-foot London flagship is located at 149 New Bond Street. The boutique resides in a 19th Century townhouse, and the interior has a corresponding residential feel. The first floor features company signatures like moss green floors, gold leaf mirrors, plum snow leopard curtains and orange lacquer details. It also includes unique residential elements like Imari vases, a regency shell chair and a George II claw foot side table.

The space has interesting structural details throughout, including a tented ceiling with a skylight. The second floor includes a living room for VIPs and special events as well as a library to relax in or to feature special collections. There are additional residential pieces upstairs including a knole sofa, raffia rug and plum and ivory diamond upholstery-all elements meant to make the customer feel at home.

The Gap Collaborates with 10 Corso Como to Celebrate its Debut in Italy

An iconic American company is collaborating with an Italian design powerhouse with a co-branded line of T-shirts, sweatshirts and bags.

To celebrate its upcoming expansion in Italy, The Gap is partnering with 10 Corso Como to launch a limited edition collection in Milan, Italy during Milan Fashion Week. The collection will available at a temporary store on September 22 exclusively at 10 Corso Como.

The Corso Como Gap collection of tees, sweatshirts and bags will feature two themes on styles that are at the heart of The Gap's collections--the tee and the sweatshirt, as well as a series of matching cotton tote bags. One design features Corso Como's signature 'circles' graphic. The second designs features illustrations selected by the store's legendary founder, Carla Sozzani, from the work of American artist Kris Ruhs. The collection will be available in both men's and women's sizes.

Love shopping for shoes? The shoe business is a multi-billion dollar industry and if you love designer labels you've no doubt had plenty of help from a variety of shoe salespeople. Whether talkative and friendly or all business, there are several universal truths when it comes to what that helpful sales person is thinking but would never say out loud.

"Just because I'm kneeling at your feet doesn't mean you're better than me. I'm here to help you with my expertise, not be your servant."

Louis Vuitton Opens at Santa Monica Place

Louis Vuitton opened its 137th North American store and first one on the westside of Los Angeles last week on Friday (August 6th) in the newly renovated Santa Monica Place mall. Located in a prominent corner of the ground floor the design boasts a beautifully sweeping curved glass storefront and hardwood floors. The 4,139 sq ft interior is broken down into three distinct regions: a women's area with a Louis Vuitton "bag bar" along with a leather goods display and accessories spot, an elegant lounge for rare items and women's shoes, and a men's area for shoes, leather goods, accessories, and luggage.

And as if you needed another reason to go check it out it's also Louis Vuitton's first ever LEED-certified eco-friendly store.

Melbourne's Hidden Secrets Tours

I don't tend to think of myself as the group tour type, but I started to rethink my attitude after I took a Hidden Secrets Lanes and Arcades Tour in Melbourne, Australia, a few weeks ago.

Downtown Melbourne is laced with small alleys and laneways, once providing service access to the buildings, now, home to some of the city's most interesting restaurants and boutiques. After spending a few days walking the city getting the nagging sense I was missing something, I signed up for the tour. (As it happened, the other people on the tour were all from Melbourne -- they just wanted to know what was new and exciting in town, apparently it's hard to keep up.)

Straight away we went down into what seemed like a subway stop -- and it was that, too, but it was also home to Campbell Arcade, which hosts a rotating art exhibition, several boutiques and a cafe. After that, it was a spirited wander, through Union Lane, whose walls are lined with city-encouraged and sponsored graffiti art, to Royal Arcade to visit Koko Black chocolate boutique, through Cathedral Arcade, pictured above, home to a poetry bookstore and a vintage shop. My personal favorite? Design a Space, on Manchester Lane, a place where a 70 local emerging fashion designers can sell their lines, on a rotating basis. I'm glad I didn't miss it, although my suitcase was certainly heavier for it!

Net-A-Porter To Launch Men's Shopping Site

Do men like to shop online for clothes as much as women do? Following in the footsteps of sites like Gilt Man, website Net-a-Porter has announced it will be launching a menswear site in January. Mr. Porter will include collections from the spring/summer 2011 shows and will feature brands such as Burberry, Ralph Lauren, Yves Saint Laurent and Dunhill. Like Net-A-Porter it will have an editorial component offering style coverage.

The founder Natalie Massenet, shown at right, was a former fashion editor at Tatler. She sold her share of the company to luxury conglomerate Richemont this year. She is still the chairwoman of Net-a-Porter and believes that she has a built-in audience for Mr. Porter, the men in the lives of Net-A-Porter customers. Men shop online at least as much as women do and some studies indicate that while women browse and may then purchase in stores, men do more immediate buying.

Blogging From The American Express Publishing Luxury Summit: 5 Key Luxury Trends

What does the future of luxury look like? There's no one easy answer but the morning panels at Tuesday's sessions of the American Express Publishing Luxury Summit were dedicated to the fine art of prognostication. That's no easy task in a luxury world that's been consistently defined as uncertain. Trendwatchers say that while luxury is rising again any hint of major global turmoil could throw us all back off our feed again.

The rise of China: When it comes to predicting global growth the acronym has been BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China). That should be spelled with a really big C, says the fashionably attired Lisa Sun of McKinsey & Company who discussed the growing Chinese luxury market. The Chinese market is a growing but increasingly hard-to-define group. Chinese consumers are still new to luxury, generally young, ambitious and interested in Western brands. They are getting more concerned about social responsibility although generally at a slower rate than Western shoppers. They are on what might be defined as the early curve of the luxury education. What is also interesting is that a major part of China's luxury market isn't just clustered in the major cities. McKinsey & Company's data reveals that a full 43 percent of the Chinese luxury market comes from outside the tier one and tier two cities. Further along on the arc of luxury acquisition is the Japanese market where buyers are both older and more experienced in the luxury market and less fascinated with Western brands. Could the next big luxury brand come out of China? It is a definite possibility, the Chinese shoppers are a key part of defining the new luxury.

The "smart" shopper: I mentioned the discounts versus deals phenomenon a bit in my previous report from this summit. Today's affluent shoppers don't really want their merchandise discounted exactly but what they want to feel is that they got the best deal possible. There's a certain ego-stroking phenomenon involved here. A few years ago bragging about what you spent was appealing, these days people like to brag about what they save. No one wants to appear to be spending frivolously or inappropriately which is where the buzzwords of quality and authenticity from Monday's panels came back into play. The smart shopper is also well-connected and uses the internet and sale sites as part of their strategy. Social media isn't going anywhere but how to monetize it for social shopping remains a bit of a mystery. For the most part consumers don't want ads in their social media. For brands to enter this space they have to participate as people which leads to the next key point below.

Sole inspiration: Christian Louboutin to Sign Shoes at his New Hollywood Boutique

Hollywood A-listers and fashion-forward femmes alike have long loved the iconic red sole of Christian Louboutin's heels. But only as of late last year have Hollywood residents been able to peruse his shoes in the way they were meant to be seen - in the boutique home of Louboutin. The 1800-square-foot shop, opened in September 2009, is located on one of West Hollywood's trendiest streets and housed in a historic 1930s building next to the Hollywood Foreign Press Office.

On April 28th, Mr. Loubotuin himself will visit the store to sign his "sole" away to any shopper willing to put down the plastic for a pair. Enjoy champagne and shoe talk from 4 to 7 pm. We'd suggest reserving your favorite style early - the best sizes will sell out fast!

Superfish Launches Window Shopper Tool

Superfish is a new program that helps you window shop, your computer monitor replacing the need to actually leave your house and stand in front of an actual window. And, you know, walk.

It works somewhat like CoolIris: you download the Superfish software, and when you go to any one of a ton of online stores – literally, it works all over the web, including Yahoo Shopping and Google – a "See Similar" icon will appear over enabled items. In the pic above, we went to Nordstrom, clicked to window shop for the red pump in the corner, the Pelle Moda Syreta Pump, and Superfish pulled up a host of other options from which to choose. If we had preferred the Naughty Monkey Women's Fiesta Pump (and we don't, for a number of reasons), all we needed to do was click to go to Amazon and purchase it. Superfish also gives you the flexibility of removing styles and colors you don't like. We eliminated that Naughty Monkey pump and styles like it, and they were replaced by other pumps in other virtual windows.

Superfish is new so you will stumble on the occasional WTF, such as when we went to Nordstroms and searched for similar white sport jackets, and were shown jewel-encrusted pendants. And it does launch a lot of new windows on install and a new window any time you click on a one of the links to see a similar item. Other than that, it's a fine way to start comparison shopping if you're genuinely sick of having to leave your bed to get what you want.
