The Waldorf-Astoria's New Sex and the City Package

Filed under: Luxury Travel & Hotels

Sex and the City 2 Movie Poster I would rather gouge my eyes out with the heel of a mold-encrusted Manolo than see Sex and the City 2 , set to be unleashed in theaters on May 27th.

(For the record, I liked the HBO series, but was appalled by the first movie, which apparently makes me a lonely heretic, since it did very well in the box office.)

Still, I cannot ignore the buzz that's building around the sequel, and Manhattan's Waldorf Astoria's The Waldorf Towers is offering a Sex and The City Movie package, which is actually a pretty good deal. Stay for two nights at $300, double occupancy, eat cupcakes from Magnolia Bakery, drink two Cosmos at the hotel's Bull & Bear restaurant, get two 60-minute spa treatments (one per person), and... two tickets to see the blessed movie itself. You can also take the Sex and the City NYC tour.

Nota bene, these activities probably won't have anything to do with the new movie, which centers around a trip to Abu Dhabi (filmed in Morocco). And it has to be said that these Manhattan-based activities are starting to feel a little retro, since let's face it, it's been 12 years since the series started airing and six years since it stopped -- but hey, nothing's wrong with a little nostalgia. Other hotels in the city are also offering similar packages.

The package runs May 1st to August 30th, but movie tickets are only available when the movie is in theaters. And if history's any indication, given the track-record of these sort of sequels, the run could be short -- so if this package intrigues, book earlier rather than later.

Magnolia Bakery: Cupcakes Worth Waiting For

In an episode of Sex and the City, "Carrie" and "Miranda", the characters portrayed by Sarah Jessica Parker and Cynthia Nixon, sat on a bench eating Magnolia Bakery's pink frosted cupcakes, as they discussed Carrie's love life. Magnolia Bakery hasn't been the same ever since. The neighborhood bakery located in a residential section of the West Village of Manhattan, is now a New York institution. Tourists from all over the world go to the Magnolia Bakery, often waiting in a long line that winds its way around the block.

There's a reason why Magnolia Bakery has had staying power. Its baked goods, especially its cakes and cupcakes, are home made and absolutely delicious. What other bakery but Magnolia needs to impose a one dozen limit on the number of cupcakes a walk-in customer is allowed to purchase? So it should come as no surprise that Magnolia Bakery is a nominee for a Readers' Choice Award for Best Cupcake. It is also a nominee for a Readers' Choice Award for Best Cake.

Magnolia Bakery is a family-owned and operated business where everything is made fresh from scratch on premises, all day, every day, using the finest ingredients.

M. Sturman Jewelry on the Set of the New Sex and the City Movie

M. Sturman Jewelry may not yet be a household name, however should the pieces that were sent to the set of the newest Sex in the City movie make final cut that should change. Nothing seems to stamp an item as a "must have" faster then when it is seen adorning Carrie or one of her closest friends on their glamorous romp through life . The fictitious foursome have become a hallmark of what constitutes high end fashion.

It was exciting to learn that not all the pieces selected for the movie, and possibly destined for stardom themselves, are already part of the fashion elite's wardrobe. This New York City based jewelry designer uses a collection of unique pearls, stones, beads and vintage pieces, including Swarovski cabochons and blown glass to create the unusual items in her collection. A stand out piece features Swarovski stones ordered by Christian Dior prior to World War II. Inspired by the colors, shapes and textures of the raw materials the designer painstaking crochets or weaves each piece in her New York City Studio.

The designer Peggy Sturman has a background in art history and floral design which is easily seen in her work. Will she be the next "it" girl of the fashion industry? Only time will tell, but Carrie and the girls could certainly give her a leg up. All the pieces featured above and in the gallery are currently on the set of the new movie.

Ritmo Mundo Sex And The City Watch Collection

Ritmo Mundo Sex And The City Watch
Sex and the City continues to live on in the hearts of women long after the show has ended. My personal opinion is that Sex and the City is one of those pop culture anomalies that seems to appeal to almost every woman - a true tie that binds. Watch maker Ritmo Mundo partnered with HBO for an official Sex and the City watch. The rectangular shaped case comes in four varieties - one for each of the characters. Ritmo Mundo apparently does not specify which timepiece goes with whom, so it is up to you to decide what Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, or Miranda would wear. Ritmo Mundo calls them: Cappuccino, Purple, Rainbow, or Silver Rose Gold.

The watch is 28mm wide and 41mm tall - a good feminine size. Inside the watch is a Swiss ETA F0311A7 quartz movement. Style reminisces the Franck Muller Long Island range of watches in shape and numeral font style. Ritmo Mundo adds some additional style such as textured or mother-of-pearl dials. Included on the dial is the official Sex and the City logo. Hard to determine how well the watches fit with the character of the show but they are attractive and very feminine timepieces that most women should enjoy. Retail price is $650 each.

Would You Wear The Sex And The City Wedding Dress?

The elaborate Vivienne Westwood wedding dress Sarah Jessica Parker sported in the "Sex and the City" movie didn't bring Carrie Bradshaw any luck but that hasn't stopped women from wanting it. Now, for two days only Gabriella Risatti, owner of Gabriella New York bridal salon in the Meatpacking District of New York City is making reproductions of the dress for $15,000 tomorrow and Thursday only. Risatti tells the NY Post that they will be taking measurements for those two days but only making 30 dresses.

Bag Borrow or Steal Expands: Luxury for Rent

The luxury-for-rent masterminds over at Bag Borrow or Steal have made two huge announcements: They're expanding -- customers will soon be able to get their hands on sunglasses, jewelry, cocktail attire, outerwear and "anything couture." And they're changing their name to Avelle to reflect the fact it's not just handbags anymore.

The company's tagline, "Guilty pleasure, without the guilt," has convinced many a hard-working gal that $6 a week is a quite reasonable amount of money (about 1.5 lattes?) to spend on a bag she will never actually own.

Since its inception in 2004, Bag Borrow or Steal has quickly risen to become the single largest rental luxury service online. Even Jennifer Hudson borrowed in the Sex and the City movie before Carrie generously bestowed that Louis Vuitton number on her, which at $5,400 would take a young assistant quite some time to pay off. (The Vuitton at right goes for $49 a week for members, which means you'd be paid in full in about six months.) I guess accessibility is the new exclusivity.

iPhone Pouch Premieres At Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin

Filed under: Gadgets, Luxury Cars & Autos

3G iPhone, check. Mercedes GLK, check. How to merge the two? Enter a new exclusive "pouch" (more like a Birkin for your cell phone), crafted from white napa leather and glittering in Swarovski crystals to stash your phone. Currently even trickier to come by than an iPhone last Friday, the pouch has been released in a group of just 40 limited editions to be raffled off during this week's Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin. But they'll come to market in October 2008, along with the GLK, the "compact SUV" (oxymoron, anyone?) that made its stylish debut driving Sex and the City star Kim Cattrall to her first Berlin fashion show.

Sex in the City: The Complete Series

Most people over the age of 45 can remember where they were and what they were doing when President Kennedy was shot. Most people under the age of 45 can remember where they were and what they were doing when they heard that Kurt Cobain had killed himself.

But if you're female and single, the moment your most likely to latch onto was the first time you ever watched HBO's landmark show Sex and the City.

Me? I was stuck at home in blizzard with two feet of snow outside my door. A friend urged me to rent the series and, despite my initial resistance, I did.

The rest, as they say, is herstory. From that first episode I was hooked on the clothes, the actors, and especially that ridiculous way Carrie Bradshaw managed to include the phrase, "And I had to wonder, blah, blah, blah" in every single episode narration.

The good news is that now you can relive all of the magic with The Complete Sex and the City collection, neatly packaged in a bright pink box -- pink, you know, for girls. Girls who, like me, have an easier time remembering the season in which Miranda got knocked up by Steve (Season Four) than which year President Kennedy was shot.

Was it 1962? Or was it 1963?
