Save the Whales Again, Charity of the Day
Filed under: Charity, Green, Charity of the Day
Save the Whales Again! is a campaign that was initiated by two charities that are working together, The Whaleman Foundation and the Animal Welfare Institute. The Animal Welfare Institute, was established in 1951 and started the original "Save the Whales" movement. Their mission has always been to "reduce the sum total of pain and fear inflicted on animals by humans". The Whaleman Foundation is an oceanic research and conservation organization dedicated to preserving and protecting dolphins, whales, and their respective habitats. Together these charities are vowing to once again save whales and dolphins from what threatens them today (toxic pollution, noise pollution, global warming, loss of habitat, lack of food, over fishing, entanglement in nets, ship strikes and expanding whaling). The urgent efforts begin after Japans recent announcment that they plan on doubling the number of whales they kill each year and that they are going to be killing fin and humpback whales both of which are endangered! Shortly after Norway and Iceland followed suit with similar horrifying announcements! With many celebrities backing the movement (Pierce Brosnan, Hayden Panettiere..) Save the Whales Again has been successful thus far in getting Japan to delay their slaughter until next season. With much work still ahead of them Save the Whales Again is counting on the help of citizens worldwide, visit their website to learn what you can do. There are many ways you can take action, writing a letter, signing a petition or making a phone call to world leaders to voice your concern are just a few.
