Lindsay Lohan's Ungaro Fashions Widely Panned

In recent years celebrities popped out fashion lines nearly every time you turned around. And every luxury brand seemed to have a movie star in its ad campaign. Then the recession came along and suddenly a lot of those lines folded and fashion campaign deals went to the models. But could the tide be changing yet again? It looks like some celebrities are turning back toward collaborations with high-end brands. At Paris Fashion Week Lindsay Lohan unveiled her new fashion collaboration with Ungaro. Lohan already has her own leggings line, 6126 and was announced as the new creative director of the fashion house three weeks ago. She has since been working with head designer Estrella Archs on the quickie collection and the two ended the show by strolling out onto the catwalk together. So far the reviews of the 1980s-inspired line have been less than kind. WWD called it "cheesy and dated" and others took issue with the lines use of sequined heart pasties used not just to cover nipples but as forehead adornment. Neon colors, harem pants and shoulder-baring tops recalled the very worst of 1980s fashion. Earlier this year, my colleague Kristin Taylor Young questioned whether or not celebrity designs made a mockery of fashion, clearly in this case many people think the answer is yes.

Lohan might not be the only one to step into high fashion. Today the Daily Mail reported that Sarah Jessica Parker may be the new face of Halston. Sarah Jessica Parker also had a clothing line "Bitten" which has shut down. She may front the Spring 2010 campaign for US fashion label Halston with the ads set to appear around the time "Sex and the City 2" opens. Parker's design chops are a little more advanced than Lohan's so if she decides to step back into the design studio hopefully the results will be a bit more promising.

Sarah Jessica Parker's Pricey Sheets

You've probably seen the first picture of new twins that Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick recently brought home. The gorgeous twins and their family are also posed on some pretty beautiful sheets. The couple picked up the D. Porthault taupe jete de fleurs linens (and matching terry) at the D. Porthault New York boutique on Park and 58th in preparation of the twins' homecoming a few months ago. The queen-sized set costs $1150.

Sarah Jessica Parker in Itay MalkinLike the black diamonds on Sarah Jessica Parker? The designer is Itay Malkin, who makes custom jewelry using rough-cut black diamonds.

Itay Malkin has quite a following in the film and tv world:

"Sarah Jessica Parker wore Itay's sexy, delicate strands of black diamond beads in the movie version of Sex and the City. Adrien Grenier wears a strand of Black Diamonds on this season's finale episode of "Entourage." Itay has also collaborated on a line with Patricia Field."

You can find Itay Malkin jewelry in Sex and the City stylist Patricia Field's store in New York City or online directly, here.

Sarah Jessica Parker is wearing the Black Diamond Carrie Necklace, $3,220. A gallery of our favorite items follows.

Celebrity Clothing Lines Hanging By a Thread

Thanks to the imploding economy, once-thriving clothing lines from celebs like Sarah Jessica Parker (above), Ashley Judd, Venus Williams and LL Cool J could quite possibly go out of business, AdAge reports. Following the worst holiday shopping season in four decades, numerous retailers that partnered with the star's brands are going bankrupt or being liquidated, taking the celebrity clothing lines with them. "Even before the economy went bad, the market became over-saturated with celebrity brands," Victoria Brynner, CEO of Stardust Visions, a boutique entertainment-marketing service that brokers celebrity endorsements, tells the magazine. And Dan Butler, VP of merchandising and retail operations at the National Retail Federation, says more celeb lines will inevitably disappear.

Among the high-profile victims so far:
Sarah Jessica Parker's Bitten clothing is left without a retail partner, as the Steve and Barry chain went bankrupt int November and will liquidate all 270 of its stores this year.
• Tennis ace Venus Williams' Eleven line, Amanda Bynes' Dear line, and surfer Laird Hamilton's Wonderwall brand are all casualties of Steve & Barry's bustup as well.
Ashley Judd's eponymous clothing line will likely go down with Goody's, which is being liquidated with rights to Judd's brand being auctioned off along with Goody's bankrupted stores.
LL Cool J's apparel line is on life support at Sears, and is now being advertised at up to 50% off online. Same-store sales at Sears were down 12.8% in December.

Would You Wear The Sex And The City Wedding Dress?

The elaborate Vivienne Westwood wedding dress Sarah Jessica Parker sported in the "Sex and the City" movie didn't bring Carrie Bradshaw any luck but that hasn't stopped women from wanting it. Now, for two days only Gabriella Risatti, owner of Gabriella New York bridal salon in the Meatpacking District of New York City is making reproductions of the dress for $15,000 tomorrow and Thursday only. Risatti tells the NY Post that they will be taking measurements for those two days but only making 30 dresses.

Sarah Jessica Parker Wears Chanel's $250 Pantyhose

NY Daily News Fashion (the poor man's Vogue?) ran a blurb a few days ago featuring Sarah Jessica Parker wearing a $250 pair of Chanel two-tone pantyhose. As Carrie Bradshaw would say, I couldn't help but wonder, what the heck was she thinking? Is her accountant on board with this kind of spending in a recession? But then I realized she might not have purchased them. The more famous and wealthy celebrities become, the less clothing and accessories they buy for themselves. Companies send them free items to advertise -- I mean, wear and use and enjoy. But as for SJP, and this legwear, I don't know. She's known to be highly professional, so maybe she did indeed buy these for herself.

During SJP's SATC days, you couldn't open a fashion magazine with reading about her wonderful style, classic glamour, etc. Then came her inexpensive Bitten line, which I haven't heard much about since its debut. The News item gives SJP props for getting back on the fashion track, but hits a sour note due to some not-very-nice comments from readers about her personal life (perhaps NSFW).

Sarah Jessica Parker's SATC "Roger" Belt

The clothes in Sex and the City: The Movie are apparently as much characters as the four friends. Sarah Jessica Parker noted in a recent TV interview that she had 81 costume changes! One of her favorite accessories was a belt that she said was around so much that she named it Roger. Die-hard SATC fans and Carrie wannabes can get the "Roger" belt at Streets Ahead. There are four "Roger" styles that range from $180-$250, and there's a "Charlotte" belt too, for $118. These prices sure are higher than SJP's Bitten line. It also seems that Miranda and Samantha aren't cool enough to get their own belts. See the gallery for photos and prices of all five styles.

Sarah Jessica Parker Singlehandedly Bringing Back Pearls?

Sarah Jessica Parker has been wearing a lot of pearls lately. In the Sex and the City movie, her character Carrie Bradshaw is seen wearing opera-length pearls in many different scenes. The 32-inch strand of 8.5-millimeter akoya cultured pearls is showcased in a scene is which she climbs into bed with "Mr. Big" wearing the pearls with undies and a tank top. The necklace is from Mikimoto and sells for $11,900. Sarah Jessica Parker has also been sporting pearls in her real life showing up at several press events this season in both white and black pearl necklaces in various lengths.

The Vacation Homes of the Stars

Very few celebrities have only one home -- owning multiple residences in locations around the world is key to keeping any sense of normalcy and routine in their lives. But although first homes are usually in cities like New York and LA to be close to work, where do celebrities like George Clooney, Johnny Depp, and Oprah choose to buy vacation homes? Where do they go when it's entirely up to them and they want to relax?

Well for Clooney it's a waterfront villa in Lake Como, Italy, for Depp it's a 50 acre farmhouse in France, and Oprah prefers her ocean-front ranch in Santa Monica. Where would you live? Check out this list of celebrity summer homes and see who's taste is closest to your own.

Sex in the City: The Complete Series

Most people over the age of 45 can remember where they were and what they were doing when President Kennedy was shot. Most people under the age of 45 can remember where they were and what they were doing when they heard that Kurt Cobain had killed himself.

But if you're female and single, the moment your most likely to latch onto was the first time you ever watched HBO's landmark show Sex and the City.

Me? I was stuck at home in blizzard with two feet of snow outside my door. A friend urged me to rent the series and, despite my initial resistance, I did.

The rest, as they say, is herstory. From that first episode I was hooked on the clothes, the actors, and especially that ridiculous way Carrie Bradshaw managed to include the phrase, "And I had to wonder, blah, blah, blah" in every single episode narration.

The good news is that now you can relive all of the magic with The Complete Sex and the City collection, neatly packaged in a bright pink box -- pink, you know, for girls. Girls who, like me, have an easier time remembering the season in which Miranda got knocked up by Steve (Season Four) than which year President Kennedy was shot.

Was it 1962? Or was it 1963?
