Luxury Conglomerate Backs Environmental Movie

Luxury conglomerate PPR, which is behind Gucci, Balenciega and Bottega Veneta among others, is the backer of a new movie about the planet. "Home" is a new documentary that will debut in 127 countries on June 5, World Environmental Day. The film was directed by French photographer Yann Arthus-Bertrand (Earth from Above) and produced by award-winning director Luc Besson (Taken, Subway, The Big Blue, Nikita, The Fifth Element), with the support of François-Henri Pinault, CEO of PPR. The film's purpose is to help change the way people see the planet and their impact on it. It was shot in high definition in 54 countries and 120 locations over 217 days and the first-time ever all aerial filming style highlights the Earth's wonders as well as its wounds. Home is narrated in English by Glenn Close and in Spanish by Salma Hayek.

PPR's support of Home has enabled this film to be free of distribution rights and it will be shown on TV, in open-air theaters, on the Internet in partnership with Youtube and Google, in theaters worldwide at a reduced rate and on DVD. In the United States, it will be broadcast on June 5th at 9:00 pm ET/PT on the National Geographic Channel and will be shown at Boston's Institute of Contemporary Art and in New York City at Central Park At Cedar Hill. You can also catch it on YouTube. It well sell for $19.98 on DVD and fifteen percent of the studio's profits will go to Conservation International.

Salma Hayek's Venice Wedding


Los Angeles may have had the wedding of Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag this weekend but the real wedding action was in Venice, Italy where Salma Hayek and her husband French luxury goods tycoon Francois-Henri Pinault renewed the vows they first made in a civil ceremony on Valentine's Day. The couple's ceremony took place at Venice's La Fenice opera house, one of the most spectacular settings in a city full of beauty and romance.

The bride wore a Balenciaga wedding gown with a long veil and her daughter Valentina, along with Francois-Henri's son and daughter from his first marriage in attendance. The affair attracted a rather impressive guest list. Among the stars in attendance were Penélope Cruz, Edward Norton, Woody Harrelson, Olivier Martinez, Ashley Judd, Charlize Theron and Stuart Townsend, Bono, Gael García Bernal, Enrique Murciano, David Blaine, Ziyi Zhang and even Anna Wintour and former French President Jacques Chirac. The weekend-long event includes a masked ball at the Venice's Punta Della Dogana on Friday night. The AP has a wedding dress picture here.

Celebs Flock to L.A.'s "Luxury Erotic Emporium"

While many high-end boutiques are experiencing a severe downturn, L.A.'s "luxury erotic emporium" Coco de Mer is busier than ever, with an increasing quotient of sex-starved celebs. The Melrose Avenue shop sells a wide range of goods including lingerie, books, oils, housewares and luxurious sex toys and accessories, including a $10,000 14kt gold and diamond vibrator. Angelina Jolie was spotted shopping there just the other day (though we don't know what she splurged on). Other celebs including Madonna, Kate Moss, Salma Hayek and Sienna Miller have also been by to pick up something saucy for, ahem, entertaining at home.

The shop is owned by Justine and Sam Roddick, daughters of Body Shop founder Anita Roddick, who opened the original Coco de Mer in London in 2001. The shop's clever, opulent design features a "Confessional" room attached to the dressing room providing a private view of your partner trying on lingerie. All of their products are made in consideration of the environment and human rights, and their policy is to invest in the work of local talent as well as small Fair Trade projects or cottage industries. The Roddicks are "committed to enabling individuals to use sex as an instrument to transform their own existence."

Campari Celebrates Summer in Style

In our Classicist column about Veuve Clicquot's collaboration with Riva Yachts the other day we fell to musing about Dolce Vita style on the Riviera. Of course, nothing exemplifies seaside sprezzatura quite like Campari, the classic Italian aperitif. The bold red spirit with the sexy ads starring Salma Hayek (above) has been around since 1860, but that doesn't mean they've run out of things to do with it. Campari and soda is the classic combo - and one of our seasonal staples - but the company has come up with several spiffy new cocktails for summer.
