Wreck Week 2011 at Rosewood's Little Dix Bay: A Luxury Diving Paradise

Filed under: Luxury Travel & Hotels

luxury divingWe've long loved Rosewood hotels for their understated luxury feel -- each of the brand's properties, spread throughout the US, Caribbean and Europe, offers a unique ambiance that blends in with the surroundings of the area but singularly top-notch service and amenities.

That's part of the reason we're so eager to show off their newest luxury package offered at Virgin Gorda resort Little Dix Bay in the British Virgin Islands. The third annual "Wreck Week" offers unparalleled access to some of the Caribbean's best dive sites and includes five days of diving -- 14 dives total on 13 wrecks.

Rosewood, Estate of the Day

Architect Boris Baranovich is behind this home in Chappaqua, New York (see even more pictures at his site). The Georgian style stone manor looks like the set for a movie about the machinations of the impossibly wealthy. The home has over 20,000 square feet of space that done in grand style. Not too many homes feature both a rotunda and an indoor basketball court. The six-bedroom home includes a two-story library and a family room lined with bookshelves. It's always nice to see books in more than one room of a home instead of a flatscreen television on every available slice of wall. The property has an infinity swimming pool with spa, a pool house, tennis and sport courts. It is listed at $33 million.

Girls Night In Package at CordeValle

Filed under: Luxury Travel & Hotels

cordevalleMost golf getaways are aimed at gentlemen so it's nice to see that CordeValle, a Rosewood resort in San Martin, California, is offering a two-night retreat designed for women who like to hit the links too. Their "Girls Night In" package offers every possible amenity at the resort. The getaway will offer indulgence in the form of a spa party at the CordeValle spa including two Vinotherapy treatments, a manicure and pedicure. The package also includes a one-hour golf lesson on the Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed course, a tour and wine tasting at Clos LaChance, CordeValle's on-site winery, dinner at the resort and breakfast delivered to the your accommodations.

Accomodations are in a Fairway Home, shown above, a four-bedroom space that has a landscaped garden, deep soaking tubs, open fires and patios. The "Girls' Night In" package starts at $2400 per person for two-nights in a Fairway Home. Since men like spas these days and women like golf it seems to me like maybe they ought to offer more gender-netural themed packages. The Spouse-Free Special perhaps?

Rosewood Hotels Add Digital Cameras

Filed under: Gadgets, Luxury Travel & Hotels, Services

acqualinaWe've already mentioned that you can get iPods, video games and GPS devices at hotels. Now Rosewood has announced that they will be providing Fujifilm digital cameras to guests. Guests will get the use of a Fujifilm FinePix F30 during their stay at selected Rosewood Hotels. Even more helpful, the tech-savvy staff at Rosewood properties will download guests' pictures onto a CD that they can take home with them. The FinePix F30 has picture stabilization and a high light sensitivity that reduces the need for flash, a handy feature since many Rosewood properties are in sunsplashed locales such as the Acqualina in Florida and Las Ventanas in Cabo. This isn't the first hotel we've seen to offer such a feature, after all the Hyatt announced they were offering EasyShare wifi cameras last year but the CD option is a great idea. While iPods and GPS systems involve a certain amount of personalization (songs, maps, etc.) and are things you may want to bring from home a camera seems the perfect thing to use while just passing through.

50th Aniversary Eames Chair & Ottoman

The Eames Chair and Ottoman set are seminal works in modern design. Charles and Ray Eames created the chair in 1956 along with many other important works of modern design. Their experiments with molded plywoods changed the way people looked at and used furniture. The chair hs been available in several different veneers during its history, notably among them is rosewood. This veneer was discontinued in the 1980s due to the unsustainable nature of the rosewood supply. Recently, a variety of rosewood called Santos Palisander that is grown with healthy foresty habits has been discovered and the Eames Foundation is offering special editions of the iconic chair and ottoman set. To accent the rich rosewood veneer, black Edelman leather wraps the chair in luxury. The $6,500 chair and ottoman also include a membership to the Eames Foundation and tickets to tour Charles & Ray Eames home near Malibu.
