RSW Outland Round Watch For 2011

For 2011 RSW gives the Outland watch range a round case - well sort of. The case itself is round, but the large, broad lug structure remains similar to that on the square dialed version. I'll have to wait until I get one on the wrist for a final assessment, but I think the design is neat, especially the pictured version that is a chronograph version of the Outland 3H. "3H" stood for three hands, so is the chronograph going to be called the 5H? Who knows. It might just be the Outland Chronograph. There is also a round cased version of the original RSW Outland watch that tells the time via rotating discs versus hands.

The case is steel and can be had PVD coated black. You can also get a gem-set version (though I have no idea why you'd want to with a design like this). I love the chronograph with its digital style numerals and bold design. The disc based version might just be weirder than the original, and fans of the design might just love that.

RSW Consort Women's Watch

The new Consort is a remarkably level-headed timepiece from RSW (Rama Swiss Watch). Though it is going to be a bit large for the female wrist at 40mm wide. This should be OK however as while the width is great, the height is not. The oval-shaped face is elegant, and the half-circle subsidiary seconds dial creates a break in the long shape.

In steel, the case is said to be quite slim. The fact that it contains a Swiss quartz movement helps that. I like the dial design for being complex, yet legible. Good thing that it has applied hour markers for a more substantial look. Just as is the case with many RSW women's watches, the Consort (Ref. 6140) has a bezel set with 62 diamonds. Strap looks to be white reptile. Quite a different looking watch, that still has the calm simplicity of symmetry.

RSW High King Tourbillon Watch

A new tourbillon from RSW is here. This new version of the High King timepiece will sport a tourbillon style escapement. I previously wrote about the RSW High King collection here. The case is 44mm wide in steel with some 18k pink gold accents. Design is very avant garde, but still legible and wearable. Like other High King watches the movement features a retrograde date dial as well as a power reserve indicator. The movement is manually wound, but has a power reserve of 120 hours - which along with the power reserve indicator makes it not too tough to live with.

While the design is interesting, I don't feel as though it offers enough over the standard High King models. The price for the RSW High King Tourbillin is 79,000 Swiss Francs - quite high for a mostly steel watch with a relatively standard tourbillon. Plus, the tourbillon really doesn't offer a design over the standard model to merit that incredible price increase. At 20,000 - 30,000 Swiss Francs this piece would be a much more attractive option.

RSW High King Watch

RSW is finally starting to get more of the recognition that it deserves. I've been a fan of the brand for a while, but others are starting to now notice them. Looks like you can now find RSW at the famous "luxury cool item" shop Colette in Paris. Here you'll see their newer High King watch. Yea, the name is rather cheezy - but will appeal to Celtic lore fans, as well as megalomanics - I mean "royal" megalomaniacs. Or perhaps this watch can be the "chief" watch in your life?

RSW is all about unique modern designs, but those that are still fully functional and easy to live with. The sad reality with many watches that have "unique" designs is that they simple fail to be as useful or easy to read as more "traditional" ones. RSW pieces have all the right parts in all the right places, but everything else is open for "new types of interpretation." The High King (why do I keep wanting to say "hiking") comes in a 44mm wide case in four styles that mix gold, steel, and PVD black steel.

The watch bezel is skeletonized - sort of - while the dial is a combo of symmetry and asymmetry. I think it is a cool look. RSW places on the watch their special fold out crown - which is neat - while the movement has an interesting layout. You can see the open window on the dial to the automatic movement escapement, while it features the time, and a retrograde date dial. Opposite the date dial on the lower part of the dial is a power reserve indicator. I like the hour and minute hand designs, and I think that this is a very competent contender as an alternative "board room watch" for those tired of seeing a circulation of the same five brands. Look for the RSW High King soon.

RSW Wonderland Ladies Watch

Wow, OK, well RSW has made something new indeed. Do I like it? Not particularly, but I am not a woman or the target market of this piece. I am generally a fan of their men's watches, but this model is really 'outside the box,' if you know what I mean (although it looks like a box). RSW has created a unique organic pattern over the dial and pushed the watch face it self in the corner. The piece is more art than functional jewelry. The case is in steel (also available with a gold PVD coating). Size is 31mm wide and 33mm tall. You can even get the case and dial done with diamonds (9 on the case, and 104 on the bezel). Crystal is sapphire. Lots of dial options including gray (pictured), black, or mother-of-pearl, also with diamonds. While Wonderland watch is weird, there is a lot of nice features including the case design and the dial itself. For the right fashion-forward woman I think this would be an interesting piece. Probably for for everyday use, but as a unique, not super expensive, jewelry piece, it could fit the bill.

RSW Outland H3 Watches

These new watches from RSW (Rama Swiss Watch) are more mainstream versions of the interesting RSW Outland that came out a few years ago. I have to admit I like these watches a lot, and there are even more versions than the ones you see above. With at least 7 color combos, this is going to be one of the most colorful avant garde sport watches out there. The case is mechanically sophisticated, with RSW's unique pull out crown system. It is in PVD (or matte) steel with a rubber strap. There is even an 18k pink gold cased variant, and of course versions with diamonds as well (are diamonds ALWAYS necessary?).

The case size is 44mm wide but not super thick at just 12mm. Inside the watch will be an automatic Swiss movement (not sure the specific model). The dial of the Outland 3H (which stands for "three hands") has some influence from their Tool Diving watch, as well as from digital watches. Looking at the font for the 12 o'clock indicator and you'll see something that looks appropriate on a digital alarm clock. The colors which include, white, orange, blue, and green are all done in SuperLumiNova luminant. In addition to the matte black dials, there will also be white, silver, or yellow dials (with black markers on them). Those should be pretty cool as well.

Overall and exciting collection for the modern guy who wants something unique, unconventional, but still easy to use on a daily basis. Most RSW Outland 3H models should be a few thousand dollars in price.
