Queen Elizabeth I Document Up For Auction
Filed under: Auctions

A rare Queen Elizabeth document heads to auction in February through Clars Auction Gallery in Oakland, California. We don't often see a lot of documents dating back to the 1500s coming up for sale in California but this one, a signed indenture by Queen Elizabeth I, dated 1563, was in the hands of a major San Francisco Area estate. The framed piece tsates the terms of a loan Queen Elizabeth I took out through her financier Sir Thomas Gresham. It is signed on the reverse by Privy Council, Robert Dudley, Lord Keeper of the Great Seal Sir William Cecil, Sir Nicholas Bacon, William Howard of Effingham, and Sir Francis Knollys. Bidding is expected to reach $30,000-$50,000. The Clars upcoming February Fine Estates sale will be held Saturday, Feb. 5, at 9:30 a.m. Pacific and Sunday, Feb. 6, at 10 a.m. Previews will be Friday, Feb. 4, from 1-6 p.m. and 9 a.m. each auction day and by special appointment.
