George W. Bush Library To Be As Big As A Walmart

bush documents
There are a lot of documents ready for George W. Bush's presidential library and it turns out there is going to be plenty of room. The Dallas Morning News reports on the designs for the George W. Bush Presidential Library at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. The plans have gotten quite elaborate, it will now be one multi-story complex with a policy institute, an estimated 207,000 square feet of space. The building will be around the size of an average Wal-Mart Super Center and twice as large as the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum at Texas A&M University.

The nonprofit George W. Bush Foundation wants to raise $300 million for construction and endowment of the library. The plans originally called for a 40,000-square-foot policy center and a separate 145,000-square-foot building for the library, museum and the storage of documents and artifacts. Robert A.M. Stern Architects of New York is designing the complex which will now have a policy center that measures around 66,000 square feet and includes an auditorium. The separately run library and policy institute will be divided by a wall and share a common lobby.

The Ronald Reagan Library in Simi Valley, California remains the largest presidential complex with more than 265,000 square feet.
