Mauro Lecchi & Fenice Milano Team Up to Build Lamborghini-Inspired Motoryacht

When we first saw images of Mauro Lecchi's design for a Lamborghini motoryacht, we were suitably impressed, but we didn't think it would ever grace the water. Turns out we were mistaken, because the first example has been commissioned and is currently under construction.

The design takes its cues from Lamborghini sportscars and translates them into a 50-foot express power yacht – and an impressive one at that – made out of lightweight carbon-Kevlar. Fenice Milano – the same outfit responsible for those guilded Fiats and Rolls-Royces – has been brought in to work the interior, so you know it will be as outlandish as the exterior is menacing. We've updated the image gallery below with additional renderings as well as pictures of the vessel under construction, so why not take a look for yourself.

Speed, Style & Beauty: $760,000 Aquariva by Gucci

Two iconic Italian brands – famed fashion label Gucci and Riva, the chic motorboat maker that epitomizes Dolce Vita style – have teamed up on a wicked new speedboat for the style-conscious set. The Aquariva By Gucci (above), produced along with Officina Italiana Design, will be available by special order in 2011 starting at $760,000. The boat was designed by Gucci Creative Director Frida Giannini as part of the famed label's upcoming 90th anniversary celebrations. The boat's fiberglass hull and detailing are painted in Gucci's custom glossy white, offset with varnished mahogany in the cockpit and decks. The seats and sundeck are upholstered in waterproof Gucci print fabric with the fashion house's signature red and green stripe detailing. Gianni has also designed a number of Riva by Gucci his-and-hers accessories, including bags and shoes, to go along with the craft, which is powered by two 380 hp Yanmar engines for a maximum speed of 41 knots and a 150-mile range at cruising speed.

Hit the Water in the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Cigarette Boat for $1.2 Million

Back in February we first told you about plans for the wicked new 46' Cigarette powerboat inspired by the new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG supercar. Now the killer craft has hit the water, and you can pick one up via global online luxury marketplace JamesList for a cool $1.2 million. The Cigarette 46' Rider XP is the only powerboat available with the all-new Mercury Racing 1,350 hp 9-litre V8 Twin Turbo engines – altogether almost five times as much power as the SLS AMG that inspired it. Thanks to lightweight composite construction, it can do 95.59 knots with a maximum speed of 117 knots, or 130 mph for you landlubbers. With the same hand-applied silver paint as the SLS AMG that "covers body surfaces like a metallic skin, targeting light reflections to further emphasize exterior character lines and design details", it's a dazzling sight on the water – if it slows down enough for you to get a glimpse. The inside features marine-grade upholstery designed to resemble the two tone Nappa leather in the SLS AMG. Buy one of each, but just remember which one goes in the water.

The Return of the 1920s "Gentleman's Racer" from New England Boat & Motor Co.

Mark Mason, owner of New Hampshire's New England Boat & Motor Co., is bringing back the era of the 1920s "gentleman's racer" with his stunning new line of reproduction mahogany speedboats. Mason, who spent decades restoring classic boats, decided to build replicas as the originals grew ever more scarce and expensive. At his boatyard in Laconia, Mason is now custom building three 1920s racing models, each 27 ft. long with a 6-foot beam, and each priced at $395,000. The three models on offer are the Impshi (above) Hornet and Palm Beach Days, some sportier, others more stately, all with period details and graphics. The original Impshi was built by Strother MacMinn, a famous automobile designer of the era. Palm Beach Days was originally designed by famed naval architect John L. Hacker for a Palm Beach socialite who raced it in competitions around the country and used it as a stylish runabout at his yacht club. Equipped with a 548 cubic inch GM V8, it cruises at 50 mph and reaches a top speed of 70 mph.

$1.5 Million Riva Motor Boat by Marc Newson

Avant-garde Australian designer Marc Newson has designed a limited edition version of Riva's famed 33-ft. Aquariva speedboat priced at $1.5 million. Only 22 examples of the sleek, stylish vessel, due to be unveiled this September at the Gagosian Gallery in New York, will be produced. Newson drew on his work in work in automotive and aerospace design for the project for the famed Italian boatyard. The windscreen is made from a single sheet of glass, the instrument panel is streamlined, and the handles, hooks and holds are made from anodized aluminum and disappear from view when not in use. The deck is covered in Micarta, an industrial resin. "When you think of small speedboats, inevitably you think of Riva, and particularly of the Aquarama, the Aquariva's predecessor which was the most glamorous boat of the 1950s and 1960s," Newson says. "It was beautifully made in a particular style that was very, very identifiable. I wanted to reinterpret the Aquariva in my own style, with cues from the Aquarama."

$3.5 Million Hyper-Sub: Powerboat Meets Submarine

After several years in the making, you may soon be able to finally get your hands on the world's first powerboat-submarine hybrid – if you've got $3.5 million to spare, that is. The James Bond-worthy Hyper-Sub from Marion HSPD (Hyper-Submersible Powerboat Design) is finally gearing up for production in time to capture the growing market for luxury submersibles that can be launched from one's superyacht. The latest oligarch's plaything is the first small craft built with the horsepower, sea-worthiness, and range to allow operation on the open ocean, which also functions as a self-charging, autonomous submarine. On the powerboat side, it's a heavy-duty, 31-ft. surface-cruiser with an enclosed cabin. Powered by twin 440 hp inboard diesels for a total output of 880 hp, the Hyper-Sub has a maximum surface speed of 40 knots and a maximum surface range of 500 miles. In dive mode the Hyper-Sub can plunge up to 250 feet, and offers umbilical SCUBA support. With seating for up to four passengers plus a pilot, the craft's 180-degree acrylic canopy provides panoramic undersea views. With an elegant woodgrain interior, leather seating, onboard GPS, auto-pilot and a satellite phone, it's also a pretty luxurious ride.

$460,000 Carbon Fiber Jet Boat Does 45 Knots

For $460,000, UK-based professional yachtsman and boatbuilder Jason Carrington is offering his new carbon fiber jet boat, the C-12, created in collaboration with Humphreys Yacht Design. Handmade from a Nomex honeycomb core shrouded in carbon fibre, the lightweight, high-performance craft has the maneuverability of a jet ski thanks to adjustable twin water jets. The 30-ft. C-12, capable of speeds of up to 45 knots in smooth water with a range of 700 miles, is the lightest and strongest craft in its class. The open aft deck houses two Steyr MO236 diesel engines and the twin water jets. An open transom gives directly on the water, producing a beach-deck effect. Hand-stitched leather details and sculpted cockpit mountings add a bespoke touch. The bows contain a small cabin with a double berth, lavatory, galley and wine rack. Carrington plans to build only four examples per year, and will also offer a 44-ft. version down the line.

The mahogany-decked runabout in fact hails from Delran, New Jersey, where Cherubini Yachts was established in 1975. Priced at $168,000, above the waterline the craft faithfully honors the style of sporty speedboats from the 1930s to 1950, down to the real mahogany decks and stainless steel hardware. Below the is a modern, advanced fiberglass hull that enables a smoother, drier ride with more control. The elegant craft cruises smoothly in the 35 mph range and sprints powerfully into the 50 mph range. With masterful control and powerful performance, piloting a Cherubini is like driving a Porsche with Rolls-Royce suspension. The company can also build you a Veloce model equipped with a 300 hp V8 engine and a Silent Choice exhaust system, custom painted with a speed-striped deck in your racing colours. The aft cockpit has a leather upholstered bench seat and two side seats, with a table that can swing out of the way so passengers can enjoy the ride as well.

World's Fastest Speedboat Unveiled in Miami

An orange, purple and green monstrosity dubbed the Phenomenon (above) was just unveiled at the Miami International Boat Show boasting the title of World's Fastest Speedboat. The 12,000 hp beast can do over 250 mph thanks to four T-55-L-7C Lycoming turbine engines kicking out 3,000 hp each. Engineers from NASA and Boeing and former US military naval architects collaborated on the 56-ft. craft with the aim of breaking the world's propeller speedboat record, spending millions of dollars in the process. The lightweight craft is made of carbon fiber and fiberglass over airex foam cores. The cockpit is a separate high-strength composite capsule with extensive all-carbon fiber window mullions and frames, fitted with custom carbon fiber NASCAR seats. Phenomenon belongs to Al Copeland, Jr., owner of the Popeyes Chicken & Biscuits chain.

$550,000 Graf Ipanema Mahogany Powerboat from Germany

This beautiful mahogany power launch looks like a classic Italian model at first glance, but actually hails from the Graf boatworks nestled between Munich and Lake Constance at the foot of the Alps. The 29.5-ft. $550,000 Graf Ipanema is made entirely by hand using only traditional tools in the boatbuilder's yard to shape the wood, leather and metal. Powered by twin 400 hp Volvo Penta engines for a maximum speed of 40 knots, it features a hull planked with triple skin diagonal mahogany. Teak, larch, oak and okourné wood are also used on the craft, along with fine oxhide and alcantara, high-grade woollen materials, brass, chrome and stainless steel. A mahogany table with seating for six and compartments for champagne flutes can be folded and stowed away, while the leather-upholstered solarium aft steps down to the teak anti-skid swim platform.

Magnum Marine 100 Carbon Fiber Cruiser

Florida-based Magnum Marine, owned by aristocratic Italian boatbuilder Marchese Filippo Theodoli, has begun production on its largest and lost luxurious yacht to date, the Magnum 100. Designed by Italy's Alberto Mancini, the sleek 100-ft. craft is made of carbon fiber and advanced composites for a high power-to-weight ratio. In addition to its twin 2,600 HP MTU diesel engines, the 100-footer has been equipped with numerous ecologically-minded devices such as an electric "harbor" drive wing engine for slow speed operation, which runs virtually silent and exhaust free. A number of indoor and outdoor seating, dining and viewing areas are incorporated into the design with an expandable top providing various movable shaded spaces when out on the water. Four double staterooms belowdecks provide luxe accommodations.

$750,000 Supercharged 41 Luxury Cat Goes 125 MPH

Bespoke Bugattis weren't the only things unveiled at the recent Dubai Motor Show. Liquid Glass Powerboats based in Iowa also unveiled its new 41-ft. Luxury Cat, which costs $750,000 and can go 125 mph thanks to twin 700 hp Mercury Racing engines with copper-nickel alloy superchargers. The custom-built catamaran features a state-of-the-art infusion-molded hull and deck and a high-tech foam core. It comes equipped with Mercury's VesselView driver information display, showing vital engine stats such as RPMs, engine temperatures, trim positions, trip history logs, and engine efficiencies in real time across more than 20 screens. There's cockpit seating for six passengers and the luxuriously-appointed below-bow cabin has a spectacular audio / video entertainment system.

MasterCraft Cruises into the World of Day-Trippers with its MasterCraft 300

MasterCraft is known for its recreational boats -- the company leads the market in inboard skiing, wakeboarding, and sport craft. With the 30-foot, 4-inch MasterCraft 300 twin inboard (the platform adds another 3.5 feet) the company moves into the big boat business, and with its first offering wants to reset a boat buyer's expectations about how a day-tripper should make its owner feel.

The cockpit features big-boat electric equipment standard, but you can opt up for items like the Raymarine E80 and get a systems monitor with maps, radar and a 3-D terrain view of the ocean floor. And you'll be able to see it, and to stay cool behind the wheel, under the boat's tinted glass hardtop that is lined with a misting system. However, the folks lounging on the transom's adjustable seating will probably be having more fun than the pilot, with custom wetbars on either side and space for an electric grill or, even better, a waterproof flat screen TV.

The 300 is the first boat in the segment with a twin-tipped monohull, which opens up space in the interior cabin. Head below decks with your head up and your chest out, and you'll find customized hardwood cabinets and hardwood floors, ultra-leather fabrics, a galley with all the mod-cons, and a stand-up shower with a full-sized door. When it's time to get off your sea legs, the room in that twin hull provides you a bed big enough stretch out in, meaning that unless you're a Grizzlies center you don't have to sleep in the shape of a 'V.'

And once you're in bed, if you realize you forgot to turn off that "Songs of the Humpback" CD, don't bother getting up. Just grab the Contour Zone remote (or C-Zone to you, Commodore), which puts you in pushbutton control of all the boat's electrical systems. That way you can let the real humpbacks sing you to sleep.

The 1120HP Motor Launch from Lancia

What's the matter, was 1050 horsepower not enough for your taste? Then feast your eyes on this: the Lancia di Lancia. Although powered by two six-cylinder turbo diesels instead of the Powershore Abarth SP's three V8 outboards, the Lancia powerboat produced by the same collaboration with SACS Marine responsible for sister-company Abarth's speedboat offers up 1120 horsepower to the Abarth's 1050.

The motor launch from Lancia, as it's called, is also wrapped in a sleeker package, with inboard engines and a covered cockpit accessible through the retractable windshield and Martini Racing stripes recalling the company's historic rally victories. Like its sister-ship, however, the Lancia di Lancia is a Rigid Inflatable Boat – basically a hard hull with a rubber tube around it. The vessel measures over 40 feet long, weighs 8.5 metric tons and can reach speeds in excess of 55 miles per hour. The Lancia di Lancia is scheduled to debut during the upcoming 66th International Film Festival in Venice at the Grand Hotel Excelsior next month.

Outerlimits 41 Super Leggera is Built for Speed

The new 41 Super Leggera from Rhode Island's Outerlimits Powerboats can do 100 m.p.h., costs $650,000 and is the closest thing we've seen yet to an oceangoing Lamborghini. The company constructs the awesome 41-ft. powerboat using aerospace technology, materials and engineering, centered on a carbon fiber deck and epoxy e-glass hull. Super fast, strong and light, the design is based on a World Championship race boat, but with all the comforts you'd expect from a craft of this caliber. The cockpit features a dash made of hand stitched leather and suede, a GPS chart plotter, and side-by-side stand-up convertibe bolsters. The full cabin features a shower, a plush V-berth, and plenty of storage for your other toys.
