Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos, Green

Yes, it's true, if you buy a Porsche you can get a Federal tax credit. The 2011 Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid, Porsche's first production hybrid, has been certified as being eligible for the Alternative Motor Vehicle Tax Credit as a Qualified Hybrid Motor Vehicle. That means that buyers who pick one up before the end of the year are eligible for an Alternative Motor Vehicle Tax Credit of $1,800 on their 2010 taxes.

The Cayenne S Hybrid accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in just 6.1 seconds and delivers an impressive EPA-certified 20 mpg city/24 highway. it has a combined power output of 380 horsepower from the supercharged V6 combustion engine and an electric motor, giving it a performance nearly equal to the Cayenne S which has a 400-horsepower V8. The base price before the federal tax credit is $67,700 (excluding destination).

A vehicle like the Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid has a bit of a split personality. On the one hand, it's a hybrid, so that means low emissions and fuel consumption. On the other, it's still a Porsche. And where there's a Porsche – hybrid or otherwise – there'll be tuners ready to increase the performance quotient.

The latest comes courtesy of speedART. The Porsche tuning expert has boosted the conventional gasoline-burning V6 by 70 horsepower for a 450hp output and a 0-60 time cut down by half a second to six flat. Not too bad for a hybrid, and not too bad for a Porsche.
