Peugeot RCZ Asphalt Edition

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

Few things are as hot right now in the European car market as the Peugeot RCZ and matte-black special editions. So guess what we have for you today! You guessed it – a matte black Peugeot RCZ.

Called the Asphalt edition, the slinky coupe from the brand of the rearing lion comes in a limited edition of just 500 examples. Each is decked out in Noir Telluric on the outside, with blacked-out 19" alloys and a black leather interior to match. And in case you thought it was all show, the special RCZ packs the top-of-the-line 200-horsepower turbocharged engine to ensure it goes as good as it looks.

Red Dot Design Award Honors Luxury Automobiles

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

Every year an international jury of experts assembles for the annual Red Dot design awards. Considered one of the most prestigious prizes in product design, awards are handed out each year to designs that stand out above the rest.

This year's list of award winners includes more than 1000 recipients – far too many to list here – divided between honorable mentions, the basic Red Dot award and the Best of the Best category for those truly exceptional designs. Among this year's recipients are a host of luxury automobiles, but only three won the venerable Best of the Best: the Rolls-Royce Ghost, Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG and the Peugeot RCZ. All three are luxury cars with very different design philosophies and body styles, but the good people at Red Dot evidently felt they each deserved special recognition.

2009 Frankfurt Auto Show: Peugeot RCZ

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

If you're in the market for an economical hatchback or family wagon, Peugeot has got a whole range of choices. But if you're looking for something a little more stylish, the French automaker has had to send you elsewhere. Until now, that is. Two years ago in Frankfurt, Peugeot took the wraps off the 308 RC-Z concept that seemed to blend the best elements from the company's Golf-class hatchback with the sleek design of the Audi TT. Public demand grew to such an extent that parent company PSA gave the project the green light, paving the way for the production-ready RCZ which the company unveiled at this year's Frankfurt show.

The stylish design takes the French automaker into another level of design, and is backed up by a solid range of engines. Co-developed with BMW and implemented in the Mini, the 1.6-liter turbocharged Prince engine is available in the RCZ with 156 horsepower or 200, and can be coupled with an electric motor for four-wheel-drive hybrid propulsion, or ordered with a 2-liter turbodiesel. Engines aside, it's the RCZ's style that will carry it through a crowded market, so check it out in the gallery below.
