Luxist readers nominated for the steakhouses that they believe are the best-of-breed around the world. Here are their favorite places to go for juicy, mouthwatering steaks cooked to perfection:

Cut
Wolfgang Puck is credited with redefining fine dining in America. Indeed, the award-winning Austrian-born chef and celebrated restaurateur has built a vast restaurant empire with locations around the world, beginning with his flagship Spago, which opened in 1982 (famous for its haute cuisine pizzas), and later Chinois and Postrio Bar & Grill, among many others. His trademark dishes have revolutionized the culinary industry.

In 2006, Puck opened Cut, a sleek, innovative and contemporary steakhouse complete with a lounge called "sidecar", located in the Richard Meier-designed Beverly Wilshire Four Seasons' Hotel in the heart of Beverly Hills. After only one year in operation, the restaurant earned a coveted one star ranking from the Michelin Guide--no small accomplishment.

For 26 consecutive years, Peter Luger has been the number one steak house in New York, according to Zagat's, and its customers have included a host of celebrities, from Alfred Hitchcock to James Cagney and Robert De Niro. It is easy to understand why Peter Luger is nominated for a Readers' Choice Award for Best Steakhouse.

Peter Luger Steak House offers only the finest USDA PRIME meat available. The selection process is crucial and is done only by members of the family who visit the wholesale markets on a daily basis. Just as famous as its steaks are Peter Luger's side dishes. Be sure to order the sliced tomato topped with Luger's own sauce, creamed spinach, onion rings and the special German fried potatoes. The Peter Luger Steak House Old Fashioned Sauce is delicious and available for purchase. Keep in mind that most of Peter Luger's dishes are large enough to serve several people.


Be sure to bring cash as Peter Luger does not accept any credit cards except the Peter Luger Card.

Peter Luger has two locations in the greater New York City area: the original, which is located in Brooklyn while the other is on Long Island in Great Neck. Hours of operation are from 11:45 am to 9:45 pm (last seating) Monday through Thursday. On Friday and Saturday, the last seating is at 10:45 pm and on Sunday, seating is available from 12:45 pm to 9:45 pm. Banquet facilities are available for up to 45 people. Reservations for 10 or fewer guests can be made by calling the Brooklyn location at (718) 387-7400. Reservations for the Great Neck restaurant can be made by calling (516) 487-8800.

The esteemed steakhouse entered the cyberworld of online meat purveying with the launch of PeterLuger.com. The website was a nominee for a Luxist Awards' Readers' Choice Award for Best Online Meat Company in July.

A new online ordering service allows Peter Luger customers to order its famous USDA Prime Dry Aged Steaks, including its famous Porterhouse cuts. All meat packages are shipped via FedEx Overnight. Shipping rates are calculated upon check out after the shipping destination has been entered. All shipping is done Monday through Thursday. Meat orders received by 11AM will be shipped that same day for next day delivery. All orders received after 11AM Thursday will be shipped overnight the following Monday.

Peter Luger Steak Sauce is world-famous and can be ordered online. It is available in boxes of six ($34.20 a box, plus shipping) or twelve bottles ($57.90 plus shipping). The online butcher shop also offers steak knives and cutting boards.
