The Perrier-Jouët Bi-Centenaire Celebrates the Maison's 200th Birthday

In 1811, just a year after they were married, Pierre Nicolas Perrier and Rose Adélaїde Jouët released the first bottling of Perrier-Jouët champagne. Even at 200 it is among the youngest of the champagne brands that make Americans giddy: Moët-Chandon (makers of Dom Perignon), Veuve Clicquot and Roederer (makers of Cristal) are 18^th century institutions.

When it comes to taste and quality, though, Perrier-Jouët can easily go bubble-for-bubble with its older compatriots. And when it came to celebrating its two-hundredth year, if you ask the house itself, it might have outdone them. Luxist attended the event in Paris, where we're told, "To celebrate its Bicentennary, Perrier-Jouët is initiating a conversation with time."

It is a conversation that begins with the Perrier-Jouët Bi-Centenaire sculpture and that will last nearly 100 years. And it involves lots and lots of champagne...

Perrier-Jouet Celebrates Bicentennial with World's First "Living Legacy" Champagne

Two hundreds years is an exceptional anniversary to celebrate, and having been founded in 1811, that's exactly what Perrier-Jouët is marking this year. And to celebrate the occasion, the French champagne house is launching what is termed as the world's first "living legend" champagne.

The Perrier-Jouët Bi-Centenaire program involves a (presumably quite wealthy) buyer selecting a magnum of Perrier-Jouët's Belle Epoque 1998 champagne, which is then set down in the winery's cellars for as much as 100 years, after which the buyer's descendants are invited to pick up the finely-aged bottle. The entire process is limited to 100 bottles, each fetching a price of 10,000 euros.

The launch of the program was celebrated with a lavish feast attended by 200 guests -- including many local and international celebrities -- who enjoyed a recreation of the menu crafted for the company's centarian dinner a hundred years ago, prepared by French chef Jean-Louis Nomicos under the tutelage of his mentor Alain Ducasse.

A Liquid Legend: 175 Years of Perrier-Jouet

World-famous French champagne house Perrier-Jouët is lusciously explored in an impressive new book called The Art of Vintage: An Aesthetic Odyssey Through 20 Vintage Perrier-Jouët Champagnes by Serena Sutcliffe, Jean-Pierre Devroye and Federico Simonti, with photography by Makiko Takehara. It not only explores the legendary vintages of Perrier-Jouët champagne, from the oldest vintage of 1825 to the first vintage of the new millennium in 2002, but also offers insights into art, history and popular culture that correspond with each year the vintages were released. Each esteemed vintage is presented in association with the main artistic trends of the period, a summary of fashions of the day, a history of the house of Perrier-Jouët during the year, and notes on the wine and harvests of the season. All are lavishly portrayed including a and a rich variety of illustrations and exclusive artistic photographs of each vintage.

Rie Rasmussen Named the New Face of Perrier-Jouet

Stunning multi-talented Danish model / artist / actress / director Rie Rasmussen has been chosen as the new face of Perrier-Jouet, breathing new life into the famed 200-year-old French champagne house. Rasmussen will help give Perrier-Jouet's iconic Belle Epoque bottle a makeover, gracing it with her image as captured by photographer Ben Hassett. Rasmussen first made her mark as a Victoria's Secret siren in 2001, then stole the show with a role as Rebecca Romijn's lesbian lover in Brian De Palma's 2002 thriller Femme Fatale. She went on to become the face of Gucci worldwide, while directing and starring in a short film that made it to Cannes in 2004. In 2005 she starred in Luc Besson's underrated Angel-A, a French fairytale shot in black-and-white, in 2008 she published a book of her painting, drawing and photography, and last year directed her first feature film, entitled Human Zoo.

$150,000 Perrier-Jou�t and Van Cleef & Arpels Casket

The ultra-luxe Byblos hotel in St. Tropez is selling ten limited edition $150,000 wood and leather caskets containing an oversized bottle of Perrier-Jouët Belle Époque champagne and a Van Cleef & Arpels jewelry set. The casket, available from the hotel's exclusive club Les Caves du Roy and made to celebrate the Byblos' 41st anniversary, contains a Salmanazar of the vintage 1999 Belle Époque, which is 9 liters or the equivalent of 12 standard bottles. In addition to the Van Cleef & Arpels jewelry set, which is designed to resemble the Anemone, the flower that adorns the Belle Époque bottle, there are four hand-decorated champagne glasses in the casket.
