Nine Ferraris & More Shatter Million-Dollar Mark at RM's Monterey Sale

An exceptional 1954 Ferrari 375 MM Berlinetta (above), the fifth of only seven examples ever built, sold for an astounding $4.6 million at RM's Sports & Classics of Monterey sale on Saturday night, leading an impressive group of 14 individual sales (including eight other Ferraris) which shattered the magic million dollar mark. TV personality and former racer Alain de Cadenet joined auctioneer Max Girardo onstage for the six-hour sale, which saw 84 motor cars cross the podium before a packed house. The Saturday night sale marked the conclusion of RM's 2010 Classics of Monterey event, which attracted record bidder registrations from 29 countries, including Monaco, Brazil, Japan, and the United Arab Emirates. Joseph Stalin's ZIL Limousine for Sale

A 1949 ZIL ZIS-110 limousine that belonged to Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin is being offered for sale in Finland via global online luxury marketplace JamesList at an undisclosed price. The car, a sort of Russian Rolls-Royce, is based on the Packard Super Eight and powered by a 6 liter, 8 cylinder engine producing 140 hp with a top speed of over 87 mph. Stalin was supposedly given a Packard by FDR during the war and was so impressed that he ordered ZIL to copy it. Stalin used the vehicle, a landaulet painted Soviet green, as a parade car from 1950–1953, a fact borne out by documents from Russia's Ministry of Defense as well as archival photos. Restored to complete perfection, it has only 1276 km on it and features a stately leather interior. See the gallery for pix.

James Packard's Vintage Yacht For Sale

This beautiful old yacht has a long history. The Matthews yacht was custom built in 1903 as a day cruiser for James Packard, the car manufacturer. This flush-deck type motor yacht has dual cabins and was used by Mr. Packard on Chautauqua Lake, New York hosting guests including Henry Ford and Thomas Edison. It represents the great beginnings of wooden motor yachts and has white oak frames with white cedar planking and mahogany interior trim. The exterior hardware is brass and the running lights and spotlight which were manufactured prior to 1890 were once oil lamps which have been converted to electric. This yacht was designated as a U.S. Postal boat in the 1970s and was portrayed on a special stamp. The nearly 42-foot yacht is listed for $750,000.

Packard Name And Prototype For Sale

Classic Packard automobiles are often the stars of concours and auto auctions but now it looks like there is a possibility the Packard name could be on a new car. Reuters reports that Roy and Barbara Gullickson, are looking to sell the rights to Packard along with a prototype car. Roy Gullickson acquired the rights to the name in 1995 and has a Packard Motor Car Co. website which shows pictures of the Packard prototype (reproduced in the gallery below). The new car has an all-aluminum V-12 engine and a traditional chrome grille. The sleek sedan was made in 1998 and was shown at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in 2003. Gullickson formed his company in Phoenix and had plans to create a new luxury car brand but never got the big investors necessary to put it into production. He has since moved to a small town in Canada. He is interested in selling the brand and the prototype car for $1.5 million. He hopes a buyer might put the new Packard into limited production.
