Mondrian To Open New Soho Hotel

Morgans Hotel Group Co. is adding a third Mondrian hotel in February (current Mondrian hotels are located in Los Angeles and Miami's South Beach). Mondrian SoHo will open on March 1st, with an exclusive preview at the end of February.

The hotel at 9 Crosby Street was designed in collaboration with Benjamin Noriega-Ortiz, the visionary behind the re-imagined Mondrian Los Angeles. The design draws inspiration from Jean Coucteau's 1946 French fantasy film "La Belle et la Bete." Guests enter Mondrian through a green garden topiary facade on Crosby Street into an area with a powdery French blue color palette, a pale oak floor and casual seating groups with custom furniture designed by Noriega-Ortiz.

Seven Courses For Seven Sins

The Maritime Hotel of Chelsea, NY is getting into the Halloween spirit with its Seven Deadly Sins Package, a stay based around a seven-course meal designed to dazzle and tempt. The package is $495/night plus tax and includes a seven-course tasting menu for two at Matsuri, accommodations in a Queen Superior Guest room for two, a complimentary bottle of red wine upon arrival and a 2 p.m. late checkout the following morning.

Matsuri is a Japanese restaurant that specializes in a Japanese tapas cuisine, a series of elegant small plates. Chef Tadashi Ono launched Matsuri in 2003 to showcase his modern Japanese style. He is also the coauthor of "Japanese Hot Pots," (Ten Speed Press) a cookbook about Japan's favorite comfort food. The restaurant also has its own sake sommelier. The James Hotel Opens Second Outpost in SoHo

Long beloved by residents of the Windy City, The James Hotel brings its unique blend of residential cool to SoHo with the opening of its first New York City property. Anchoring the southwest corner of Soho at Grand and Thompson Streets, The James is currently accepting reservations at its 114 guestrooms and suites.

"The stylish and culturally rich neighborhood of Soho is the ideal home for The James New York," said Brooke Barrett, co-CEO of Denihan Hospitality Group, owners and operators of The James brand.

In homage to the creative neighborhood it calls home, The James New York will feature a mix of local and international artists, both prominent and up-and-coming. In an effort to be both child and pet-friendly, the hotel will offer both pajama sets and Paul Frank coloring sheets. Dog beds and doggy bowls will be provided by Soho-based pet retail shop Doggystyle, along with a specially-created amenity treat bag.

Luxury Hudson Hotel NYC Offers Gourmet Cafeteria Trays

Hudson Hotel is a swanky property near NYC's famous Columbus Circle with a cool-kids vibe.

The youthful swagger of Hudson Hotel is achieved by an unusual theme; the hotel is made to feel somewhat like a college dorm -- but don't discount it yet; this is basically the idea of a dorm, blown up into a super-concept with common areas, a library and long escalator rides, as well as Hudson Hall, a bar/restaurant serving gourmet cafeteria trays.

You read that right. Hudson Hall is a quirky bar and restaurant reminiscent of an Ivy League mess hall (on drugs), serving breakfast, lunch and dinner at their long tables and Alice-in-Wonderland-esque chairs beneath panoramic video screens. You head up to the kitchen island, which is decorated with antique books, in the center of the bar, get a red cafeteria tray, and pick out your meal. Your server will charge you based on the items they spot on your tray.

World Center Hotel Offers Hotel Rooms With A Ground Zero View

A new hotel in New York City offers a chance to view the construction at Ground Zero up close. The new World Center Hotel in New York officially opened up this week on the southern edge of the World Trade Center rectangle. Many of the hotel's 169 rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the building site. For the next few years, the hotel hopes that the construction, instead of being a negative, will actually be a draw, luring leisure and business travelers who want to feel close to the rebirth of this area of the city.

Rates start at $199 for rooms at the hotel, a very reasonable price for New York City. Some rooms have been made into corporate apartments for extended stays. There is a private restaurant and club on the 20th floor. Guests have complimentary access to the View of the World Terrace Club which has views of the Hudson River and rising National 9/11 Memorial & Museum and Freedom Tower. This setting offers year-round indoor/outdoor dining terrace, a bar with windows overlooking downtown New York and a lounge area. There are also work stations and meeting rooms which can be reserved. City residents can become a member of the club.

Not everyone is a fan of the new hotel, some question why you would want to be close to a site where so many people lost their lives. But millions of tourists visit the site each year and the hotel's unique position offers better views of the rebuilding.

New Fashion Inspired Hotel Opens In New York

The Wyndham Hotel chain's latest addition in New York City, Fashion 26, is geared towards the fashion and art-conscious consumers among us. Fashion 26 has 280 rooms and 22 stories of interior design inspired by the nearby Fashion District, with the lobby featuring a reception desk modeled after a fashion studio cutting-room table and a rotating art program of photography from Fashion Institute of Technology students livening up the hallways. Even the staff will be dressed in uniforms designed by the likes of Pink, Ralph Lauren, and Kangol. There's also the Rare Grill & Bar that serves specialty hamburgers and the Rare View rooftop bar that offers up 'creative cocktails.' Other touches include Crumbs cupcakes at check-in, radio frequency room keys (no swiping, just waving), and all the usual high-class amenities like turn-down service and free wireless internet. Fashion 26 celebrated April 15th as opening day and room rates, discounted to promote the launch, start at $299/night (through June).

Four Seasons, New York: Luxury in the Center of the Big Apple

Rising over Manhattan's premier shopping and business district is the Four Seasons Hotel, a nominee for a Readers' Choice Award for Best City Hotel.

Designed by I.M. Pei, the hotel features stunning views and gracious style. It is a remarkable luxury experience in one of the busiest cities of the world.

The hotel offers 368 generously-sized guest rooms, including 63 suites. Some accomodations have furnished terraces with views of Central Park or the downtown skyline. The décor is contemporary and understated, featuring the finest handcrafted furniture and English sycamore panelling. Signature facilities include Florentine marble bathrooms with a glass-enclosed shower stall, a deep soaking tub that fills in 60 seconds and a private changing area.

On the 52nd floor, the 4,300 square feet Ty Warner Penthouse, named for the owner of the hotel, was a collaboration between Ty Warner, renowned designer Peter Marino and I.M. Pei. With cantilevered glass balconies and floor-to-ceiling bay windows, the suite is set beneath 25-foot cathedral ceilings. The nine-room penthouse offers a breathtaking 360-degree view of all Manhattan, a private spa room, library, breakfast room, indoor-outdoor Zen garden and library. The suite was custom-commissioned in every detail, from semi-precious stone surfaces to fabrics woven with platinum and gold and comes equipped with a private chauffeur for unlimited travel during the guests' stay with a choice of a Rolls Royce Phantom or a Mercedes Maybach.

The hotel features a full-service spa with Shiatsu, hot stone, Thai ceremony and reflexology treatments (massage, facial and hand and foot treatments) in addition to whirlpool, sauna and steam facilities. There is also a 5,000 square foot fitness facility with cardiovascular equipment; fitness and yoga trainesr are also available for hire.

Nightly rates (not including taxes and service charges) start at $655 for a moderate room; suites start at $1,950 per night.

Stay Hotel Opens In New York

The latest New York City hotel from hotelier Vikram Chatwal is simply called Stay. Located in Times Square (157 West 47th Street), the hotel offers 210 guestrooms. As Hotel Chatter reports, the hotel was a former Quality Inn. It is now decked out with 300-plus thread count sheets and feather duvets and been given a tech makeover with interactive in-room LCD displays for ordering food from the room-service menu, Bluetooth and Skype enabled cordless telephones and Bose Wave Audio Systems with iPod cradles. There are also L'Occitane products and plush terry bathrobes as well as mini bars with premium spirits and gourmet snacks and refreshments. The centerpiece of the hotel is the Aspen Social Club, a restaurant/lounge which includes an antler-crowned fire pit and serves small plates. Rates at the hotel start at $249.

The Lowell Adds A Bentley

I've been keeping track of hotels that offer luxury cars to lure guests. The latest to make an announcement of a new car is the Lowell Hotel New York which offers a 2006 Bentley Flying Spur for guests. You don't get to drive it yourself but you can reserve the Bentley Flying Spur and chauffeur through the hotel's concierge. The rate for booking the Bentley is $450 per hour with a four hour minimum so if you want a joyride it's going to have to be a long one. The Lowell New York Hotel has 47 suites and 23 deluxe rooms and prices range from $495 to $7500 for a three-bedroom penthouse with a conservatory. The hotel features a variety of posh amenities including Frette robes, a minibar stocked by Dean and Deluca and perhaps something you don't want to see when you are on holiday, a scale in the bathroom.
