Nest is a nonprofit organization with a social mission to support women in developing countries by way of helping them to turn their artistic ideas and creative dreams into real life money-making entrepreneurial businesses that can stand the test of time. Nest funds the efforts primarily through the sales of unique home decor items, jewelry, and accessories created for the Nest store by a group of volunteer artists and artisans. So by shopping (either online or in one of their shop locations) you can both indulge your own love of art and beauty and be helping women around the globe to reach their dreams. It's a win win!

Nest Bracelet

Inspired by the nature, the large Nest bracelet by Saprang has the woven look of a bird's nest but with a hole in the center for your wrist. The bracelet is made of sterling silver with brass wires wound around it to create the swirled design. Your Nest comes with a nest of its own, the bracelet is packaged in a teak box that is lined in suede and has a leather tie. It sells for $1,035.

Human Nest Chair

The Human Nest Chair is a creation of designer Emily Pilloton. It is a compilation of thousands of scraps of fabric and textiles, woven and tied together onto a bamboo frame. The idea came about after the designer observed the way that birds build and maintain their nests and, like those natural nests, this chair can be replenished with new fabrics of your own to keep if fluffy and soft over time. The designer says that this makes it into a modern heirloom.

Since it was featured in the New York Times this past Sunday, the fact that only one chair has currently been sold is bound to change, despite the fact that the chair is a startling $1,800. Perhaps it would be best for someone who likes the shabby chic look. Or the ultra shabby chic look.

Rings from Verre New York

Jewelry went big this season, with designers creating ultra-big necklaces, oversized earrings, and chunky rings. As much as I love bold pieces, I still prefer more delicate jewelry. Los Angeles-based jewelry designer Julie Burton uses glass in all of of her designs to create original pieces, and her rings are my favorite--they come in dozens of different colors and can be stacked on top of one another. This one pictured here comes in either sterling ($77) or 14K gold ($155). Burton's company is called Verre New York, and her jewelry can be found in stores across the country, like Nest in San Francisco and The Clay Pot in Brooklyn.
