Imola Chair From BoConcept

Managing to be both modern in design and comfortable for curling up in, the Imola chair is one of the new offerings from BoConcept. The exaggerated swoopy lines give it a look that is a bit playful without being too cartoonish. The chair is part of the 2009/2010 BoConcept collection and was designed by Henrik Pedersen. It starts at $1,699 and is available in a variety of fabrics and leathers.

New iDesk. Sleek. White.

The new iDesk clearly mimics Apple's design ethos: minimalist, sleek and mostly white, or at least mono-chromatic. The iDesk is German designer Paul Bichler's study in the modern workstation -- no drawers, no detailing -- though the desk does handily store cords and wires for all your existing Apple products. It retails for $3,100.

Artnet Launches Design Marketplace

The online market in high-end modern and contemporary furniture in design is really heating up.. A couple of months ago I mentioned that Christie's rebranded its House Sales as Christie's Interiors to help decorators, collectors and newcomers acquire one-of-a-kind objects and collectibles. Another antiques and design site, 1st Dibs also helps people access a world full of vintage design finds without combing through antique stores.

The latest entry into the market is Artnet's Design Marketplace which shows furniture and decorative art from over 150 galleries in 75 countries. The site shows over 3,000 works for sale from over 1,000 renowned designers including Carlo Mollino, Isamu Noguchi, Jean Royère, Marc Newson and Zaha Hadid, among many others. You can search by designer, object type, style/period, price and location of the item. The prices range from a couple hundred dollars for a vase to pieces like this "room-within-a-room" inspired by a traditional Dutch bedstee by designer Hella Jongerius. The walls and cupboards of Jongerius's Bedstee are loosely upholstered and there is also a soft sculpture of a candleholder. The piece is being sold through NY shop Moss and sells for $80,000.

Zen Side Table

I like the idea of a small, portable table that can be tucked in wherever it is needed. Whether next to your favorite reading chair holding your teacup, or scattered about the room for a cocktail party, these smart little platforms would work well with any decor. The Zen table, by Cattelan Italia, features rounds of reflective stainless above and below a gently curved wooden leg. Sold in pairs, the tables are available in 20" or 22" heights with 17" diameter tops. $618.

E-Turn Bench by Kundalini

E-turn refers to eternity - as in an endless ribbon of gracefully curving fiberglass. Winding over and around, the handmade bench looks good from any angle and the bright lacquered finish sets it aglow. While it doesn't look particularly comfortable, there is no denying that it is striking. Measuring 72.8" long by 22" wide by 16.5" high, the bench is available as shown in white, orange, red or black. $3325.

Iannone Graphic Armoire

Michael Iannone's eco-friendly furniture makes use of reclaimed materials and simple modern design. The doors on this stunning armoire are made from Kirie, an engineered product constructed from reclaimed stalks of the Sorghum plant. The stalks are joined together using formaldehyde-free adhesive, creating a strong yet lightweight environmentally friendly substitute for wood.

The striking floral pattern is achieved with an overlay of gloss white laminate that is GREENGUARD certified. The cabinet itself is constructed from birch plywood certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, ensuring that it comes from well-managed, sustainable forests.

Inside this gorgeous armoire are three adjustable shelves and two dovetailed drawers. The piece measures 70" high by 40" wide by 22" deep. In the hands of Iannone, green is beautiful. $3995.

Things You Need: Barcelona Chair & Stool

What home is complete without a classic piece of furniture. Whether it is a Chippendale breakfront or an Eames Lounger, every home needs a special piece that makes you proud. Today, I bring you the classic Barcelona Chair and Stool. Designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe in 1929 for the International Exhibition in Barcelona, it's hard to believe that this chair comes from the era of cloche hats and flapper dresses. I could write all day about the pioneering van der Rohe, but the proof is in this timeless design that has been manufactured exclusively by Knoll since 1953. I'm planning on getting a black one for my bedroom. What better place to put your shoes on in the morning than on a work of modern art? The chair is available from Design Within Reach for $3,499. The stool goes for $1,654.
