I don't have the pleasure of owning a mini bar myself but oh would I love one. They look so handy and convenient to wheel around, not to mention fun to use because everything's in miniature and there's no kitchen to clean up afterwards. This mini bar is from T.T. Trunks is unique in that it not only has room for champagne but also coffee, which makes it a little more versatile and a potentially great addition to a guest room. It features a mini refrigerator for chilling bubbly, a coffee machine, and plenty of storage for bottles and glasses in the door along with several drawers for misc items like condiments and napkins. €11,650 ($15,900).

Minibar Nightclub Lets Patrons Serve Themselves

In a bad economy one of the reliable jobs seems to be restaurant work but could the cocktail waitress soon be obsolete? The Minibar nightclub in Amsterdam offers individual minibars that let patrons serve themselves. You check in with the concierge who gives you access to one of 45 small fridges which is stocked with beer, wine and spirits (there are also special bars just for beer and champagne only). The private fridges are stocked with snacks and you can also order from a delivery menu of fresh sushi and seasonal dishes. It's too soon to say if the concept will catch on and spread.

What Is The Future Of The Hotel Minibar?

It seems that many hotels standbys are no longer so reliable. First hotel keys were replaced by keycards, then the Bible in the bedside drawer started to disappear, now it seems some hotels are beginning to do away with the hotel minibars. The tempting trove of overpriced snacks and tiny bottles of booze is no longer as much of a moneymaker as it used to be. Many people bring their own supplies and would be happier with an empty refrigerator. Hotels also cite the expense of monitoring and maintaining minbars as another factor.

Let's not call the minibar dead just yet, about half of the finer hotels and resorts in the U.S. still have minibars but that may not last as consumers get even thriftier. The last few years have seen hotels try to fine tune their minibars adding healthier snacks and more gourmet fare. But it's nearly impossible to please all the people all the time and so minibars often end up with a run on one thing while others linger until their expiration date. Perhaps the answer is to have a mini shopping area in the lobby that would allow guests to customize their own minibars so that they could stock their room only with the things they will actually eat.

This is the time of year where special occasions and rare visits from family and friends are plentiful, and although home cooking is a big part of the season so is eating out -- because when people are in from out of town you hardly want to take them down to the local "all-you-can-eat for $4.99" buffet to celebrate their visit. But if you don't want to get stuck choosing between either the buffet or McDonald's then you might want to plan ahead, because as we all know everybody else in town is going to have the same idea!

Booty Parlor Kits at the Mondrian Hotel

Hotel Chatter let us know that the Mondrian Hotel in West Hollywood has a new naughty amenity for hotel guests. The Mondrian, which already has a gift shop, named Pleasure, that features Booty Parlor "intimacy products." Will now be offering a special kit in the mini-bar that includes condoms, lubes and other items. Of course, since it's in the mini-bar the rates will probably astronomical. The full kits which sell in Pleasure sell for upwards of $85. It's a nice fit for the adult and swank Mondrian but don't look for your local Holiday Inn to start stocking these any time soon.
