Milus Tirion TriRetrograde Seconds DLC Watch

One of my favorite "check me out and stare at me" complications is still the TriRetrograde movement module by Milus. Utterly pointless, the complication is nevertheless great to watch. It takes the seconds indicator and divides it up into three 20 seconds retrograde dials. Even after is release a few years ago, the Milus Tirion "still has it." Next on the list of variants of the collection is this DLC black model with a lot of carbon fiber.

The case itself is 45mm wide in steel covered with hard DLC, but the strap, dial, and bezel are carbon fiber. There is really a lot going on in this watch, but it is still quite fun - and sporty as well. I was impressed with the collection since I first saw them. Not only is the look very enduringly good, but the quality is impressive as well. While I haven't seen this specific model yet, it should satisft those who have a 'need' for the black look with all the carbon fiber. Movement is an adapted Swiss ETA movement with a special Milus module over it.

Milus Tirion TriRetrograde Watch Refreshed For 2010

While it is not a fundamentally different timepiece that the original, Milus has reworked small design aspects of its hot selling Tirion TriRetrograde watch - offering a new version for 2010. The signature complication that features three 20 second retrograde dials on the face (that together indicator a full minute), really put the brand back on the map. Over the last few years the concept has been implemented into a number of Milus timepieces. What you have now is a more sober, streamlined look - comfortable in its skin. The original played between modern and classic elements, and this version retracts a bit from the futurism of the original. See some hands-on images with the original Milus Tirion TriRetrograde watch here.

The case has remained similar in style at 45mm wide, here in steel. It is a fantastically comfortable and nice to look at case which is unlike much of what else is out there, and it contains a Swiss automatic movement with a special Milus module for the special TriRetrograde complication. This model comes with a cream white dial and anthracite Arabic numerals, but others are sure to come. Seen here on n alligator strap. Look for it soon.

Milus Zetios Regulator Watch

milus zetios regulator watch
Taking the Zetios case, Milus has released a new regulator watch that is about as straight forward as they come. What I like about the Zetios case is the lug structures, which uses a cylinder style connector that moves freely. The luxury watch is as simple as a regulator style watch should be, without being minimalistic. Dial is guilloche engraved with a "Grain de Riz" style pattern. The subsidiary dials have snailed style circular engravings. Hands are blued steel, with matching indexes and Arabic numerals. The minutes ring is applied for a two layer look to the dial. The watch is in 42mm white in 18k rose gold, and has a sapphire crystal on the front and back. Matched to a black alligator strap. Inside the watch is a modified 2892 automatic movement (turned into a regulator style layout for the hands). Not horribly priced for a gold watch at 4,200 euros.

Milus Minute Repeater TriRetrograde Limited Edition Watch

The TriRetrograde gets loud with a new minute repeater complication. Milus takes their Tirion TriRetrograde watch case, makes some changes, and adds a much more complicated movement for the upcoming Milus Minute Repeater TriRetrograde watch. While the original Tirion models were very nice and suitable as daily wears, the Minute Repeater goes into the collector's zone - meaning it will be much more expensive and likely a bit more delicate. Problem with minute repeaters (can be activated to "repeat" the time back to you in an audible format) is that the little 'time code' songs they play is not very loud. Sure you can hear the dance of the hammers on the gongs in a quiet room, but in public? Forget about it.

The Tirion style 46mm wide case is 14mm thick and in 18k rose gold. Inside the watch is a new movement for the brand to use (I believe). It is the hand wound caliber M08-35RM with a large 90 hours of power reserve. You can see the impressive movement through the watch caseback. Very nice look for a minute repeater with an interesting bridge design. Interestingly enough this movement has been COSC Chronometer certified, super rare among minute repeater watches.

The dial design has been changed just a bit. Notable is the centrally mounted hand for the date dial, as opposed to the previous watch that had the date at 6 o'clock (which I liked better). A bit more decoration on the dial itself for the Minute Repeater, as well as fancier movement decor through the partially open dial. Like I said, for a daily wear the much more reasonably priced automatic Tirion model makes a better choice, but the Minute Repeater will be a good collection marquee. The piece will be limited to 50 pieces.

Milus Zetios Chronographe Joaillerie Watch

Milus Zetios Chronographe Joaillerie Watch
The Zetios Chronographe Joaillerie watch is a clean and clever mix of luxury and classic functionality in a watch by Milus. A mother of pearl dial and diamond bezel matched to a white strap make for a watch that is characteristically feminine. Still, with a case size of 45mm wide in either stainless steel or 18k red gold - the watch sits in the male watch court. Once again, a watch company has released an ambiguous watch that is "unisex" at best. The watch is available with a steel bracelet on the steel watch, while various colors of alligator bracelet are available with both metals.

I really like the style of lugs as twisting cylinders - this allows the strap to fit over most any wrist. A sapphire crystal sits on the face and caseback of the watch, with a view into the skeletonized rotor on the automatic Swiss movement. 62 Wesselton diamonds (1.14 carats total) sit on the bezel which goes to the "joaillerie" (jewelry) portion of the watch name. This also hints to the price of the watch, which is likely to be high, thought it may be merited given the high quality and impressive details.

Functionally the watch has an attractive and straight forward dial with applied hour numerals and lume tipped hands. The tri-compax chronograph subdial layout is easy to read and I appreciate the centrally mounted big date complication. While the design is not wholly unique it is a nice rendition of a functional luxury watch.

Milus Merea TriRetrograde Seconds Skeleton Joaillerie Watch For Ladies

The Milus TriRetrograde watch and movement is really the novelty that put the watch maker back on the map a few years ago. Their latest creation using the unique triple retrograde seconds counters is this lady's Merea TriRetrograpde Seconds Skeleton Joaillerie timepiece. This watch does not frame the TriRetrograde complication as much as past Milus watches have, though the fun-to-watch novelty that counts each minute in three retrograde counters of 20 seconds each is still there. The dial is partially skeletonized with decorated rose gold bridges and perlage polished steel below. The case in rose gold makes interesting use of diamond and ruby jewel decoration that has the look of the dial extend on to the bezel. Inside the watch is the automatic movement unique to Milus, and attached to the timepiece is a red stingray leather strap. I do enjoy the "barbell" style lugs. Definitely a standout watch that is hard to miss. Not for everyone's tastes but enough people will be smitten.

Milus Tirion TriRetrograde Seconds Skeleton 1919 Limited Edition Watch

The TriRetrograde Seconds complication put Milus back on the horology map and was first placed in their Herios line of watches that featured a square case. The follow up timepiece using the successful TriRetrograde Seconds movement from Milus is this Tirion Skeleton 1919 Limited Edition (of 38 pieces) watch. The obvious purpose of this watch is to imbue a classic looking design with the handsome and visually stimulating complication. Remove your gaze from the watch face and focus on the case and strap alone - you have just a nicely put together, but conservative watch for the most part. Add in the skeletonized dial with the TriRetrograde Seconds complication, and you start to have something interesting, yet classic feeling.

The striking feature about the dial aside from the complications is the depth of it. There are several true layers and each is interesting in its own right. Outermost is the numeral dial that the well-conceived hands easily reach. Thus you can ignore the middle of the watch for brevity's sake when you just want to know the time. Spend a little bit more time on the dial and you can watch the simple but gratifying TriRetrograde seconds complication. Three retrograde dials each measure 20 seconds. They operate one at a time moving clockwise - being fun to watch. In addition to this, a date dial is viewable at 6 o'clock. The case itself is large at 45mm wide and done in rose gold for this limited edition. Overall, the Tirion TriRetrograde Seconds Skeleton 1919 limited edition is another classy but stimulating timepiece from Milus.
