Michael Schumacher & Audemars Piguet Watches Team Up

Filed under: Timepieces / Watches, Sports

Race car driving legend Michael Schumacher requires no introduction. Though if you want to know more about him, you can peruse his victories on his Wikipedia page here. Recently in Dusseldorf, Mr. Schumacher and Swiss watch brand Audemars Piguet announced a new partnership making Michael Schumacher Audemars Piguet's newest race world brand ambassador.

This will mean that in addition to Schumacher going to events with Audemars Piguet, and the two possibly doing charitable work together, Audemars Piguet will likely release a series of limited edition Michael Schumacher limited edition timepieces. It is also often the case that for the term of the sponsorship, Schumacher will only wear Audemars Piguet timepieces.

Audemars Piguet has been working with famous race car drivers for years. Michael Schumacher is likely one of the most high profile (or the most high profile) drivers that the brand has worked with until now. Look for "signs" of their partnership to come out soon - a new watch the celebrate the relationship might be announced as early as next month at SIHH in Geneva.

An incredible array of Ferrari race cars just converged on Germany's famed Nurburgring circuit for three days of test-driving under the legendary Italian marque's Corse Clienti department. 15 Ferrari 599XX and 4 Enzo-based Ferrari FXXs were joined on the track by 10 rare Scuderia Ferrari Formula 1 cars, among the world's most desirable vehicles. Amongst them was the F190 raced by Nigel Mansell in the 1990 Formula 1 Championship; the 412 T1 with which Gerhard Berger won the 1994 German Grand Prix; the F300, which was the 45th car built by Scuderia Ferrari for the 1998 season, driven to six wins by Michael Schumacher; and the F2001, with which the German champion won nine races. Also present was the more recent F2007, which took both World titles for the Scuderia team. The beautiful thoroughbred racers are almost as much fun to look at as to drive.

For $10,000 you can get a one-of-a-kind piece of furniture crafted from the gearbox of Ferrari's F2000 Formula 1 racecar. At the end of the 2000 racing season, the complete 7-speed gearbox was signed by Ferrari's championship-winning driver Michael Schumacher, Scuderia Ferrari Executive Director Jean Todt and Ferrari CEO Luca Cordero Di Montezemolo. It was mounted to a 18"x18" carbon wall plaque with an authentic Ferrari fender shield mounted in the middle. Performance furniture firm RaceChairs is now offering it for $10,000 with the option of having a custom lamp or table (above) completed showcasing the gearbox. RaceChairs notes that due to the espionage problems with rival teams, Scuderia Ferrari is no longer releasing these kinds of pieces to private collectors, so this is your last chance.
