Benz launches MercedesSport Customization Program

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

Contemporary Mercedes-Benz automobiles have come a long way in terms of their sporty design since the conservatively-styled bricks they once were. But some are looking for a little extra flavor. Short of a full AMG performance model, Mercedes offers cosmetic AMG appearance packages, and has now added the MercedesSport program to the catalog as well.

The individualization catalog includes new aprons front and rear, side skirts, spoilers for the front, the rear and the trailing edge of the roof, as well as new wheel options. There are also upgrades available for the suspension, brakes and interior.

The package will debut shortly at the Geneva Motor Show, initially implemented only on the E-Class, including the saloon, Estate wagon, coupe and Cabrio convertible. After that, Mercedes will continue rolling out similar packages on other models.

Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe by Lorinser

If you've been thinking about putting the deposit down on a new Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe, you've got our stamp of approval. But if everyone else you know is doing the same, might we recommend a slight attitude adjustment. Like the one offered by Lorinser.

The German tuning house known the world over for its customer Mercedes offerings has just launched an appearance package for the svelte new Benz, including a new front bumper with integrated LED daytime running lights, side skirts, a trunk-lid-mounted lip spoiler, a new rear bumper with a diffuser and four round pipes poking out. The front grille – bearing similar styling to those found on late-model Acuras – may win some and lose others, but there's no shortage of wheel options available, and a suspension dropped by 30 millimeters to improve handling. A range of performance upgrades are also in the works.

Mercedes-Benz E-Class Convertible Debuts at Detroit Show

Between the SL, SLK and CLK, Mercedes-Benz offers no shortage of convertible options. But the latter is on its way out, and here's its replacement: the all-new for 2010 E-Class Cabriolet. Following in line with the recently released E-Class sedan, wagon and coupe, the convertible benefits from all the latest developments Daimler has to offer, and then some. As a convertible, the E-Class gets a new system called AirCap, designed to minimize wind buffeting in the cabin at speed, and another called Airscarf that keeps occupants warm to enable top-down motoring in all sorts of weather. Like the rest of the range, the E-Class convertible will be available in E350 and E550 guises, with a 268hp V6 and a 382hp V8 respectively. And, of course, room for four sun-worshipping passengers.

New Mercedes-Benz E-Class Nearly $5,000 Cheaper than Outgoing Model

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

We're used to seeing things get more expensive – especially luxury automobiles – but here's an example of getting more for less: Mercedes-Benz USA has announced that the price of its new E-Class sedan will actually drop by nearly $5,000 with the introduction of the new model next month. So while the outgoing E350 currently sells for $54,075, the new model, with a V6 engine and rear-wheel-drive, carries a list price of $49,475...or $4,600 less. Of course options add more to the price, and there's no shortage of extra equipment on offer from the Mercedes catalog. All-wheel-drive adds $2,500. The V8 version, another seven grand. Diesel, wagon, coupe and convertible versions are also on their way, with market introductions staggered between this June and next. However while the two-door E-Class doesn't significantly drop in price, it does move up in its market position over the CLK it replaces, which was positioned between the C and E-Class sedan ranges. Mercedes says the adjusted pricing was affected to reflect actual transaction prices, meaning there's less wiggle-room for negotiation, but less negotiation required.

Automakers go to great lengths to keep their designs secret, but more often than not they leak out somehow. One way in which design sketches of upcoming automobiles find their way from the studio out into the public realm has been the patent office of the European Union. The latest to leak out from the bureau is a stretched limousine version of the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class. In this case, it wasn't just one sketch that leaked out, but several, detailing a range of factory-available modification possibilities for the mid-size luxury sedan, starting with a slight increase and extending all the way up to a full extra set of doors like those found on funeral home limos. Likely to be called the E-Class Pullman, the stretched Mercedes is likely to benefit from all manner of luxury equipment to transport its occupants in opulent comfort to rival even its corporate cousins from Maybach. Follow the link to Autoblog to view more of the patent sketches, and stay tuned for more information as Mercedes prepares the new E-Class Pullman for market debut.

Sometimes, it's enough for a luxury car to just look fast. For those that couldn't care less about what's underhood, Mercedes-Benz is making an AMG sports package available on any E-Class sedan. The AMG kit for MB's latest midsize model, which was just debuted at a private event at the Detroit Auto Show, will cost between 2915 and 4046 euros ($3,750 to $5,200), depending on which of the E's available engine's is chosen.

Included in the AMG sports package are new front and rear aprons along with a set of side skirts that visually lower the car on its custom 18-inch alloy wheels, aided in no small part by the 15mm drop in ride-height. Inside, seats sewn from microfiber and "man-made leather" upholstery locate the driver behind an nappa leather 3-spoke AMG sports steering wheel equipped with shift paddles. Expect the new E-Class sedan to hit the European market in March.
