2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe

After much anticipation and speculation, Mercedes-Benz has finally taken the wraps off the new C-Class Coupe. Slipping in underneath the E-Class Coupe, the C-Class Coupe is essentially a C-Class sedan with two fewer doors and a lower roofline.

It will be offered with two engines: the C250 with its 1.8-liter direct-injection turbo four and the C350 with the 3.5-liter V6. Both come with a seven-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive, with an AMG version expected to follow in April at the New York Auto Show. This model, however, will be unveiled at the rapidly approaching Geneva Motor Show, now just a few weeks away.

Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe Leaks Out Before Geneva Motor Show

You may have noticed that Mercedes-Benz killed off the CLK model line a couple of years ago. In its place came the triumphant return of the E-Class coupe and convertible. Here's the thing, though: the CLK was originally envisioned as a two-door to bridge the gap between the C-Class and E-Class. And here we very well may have our answer.

Expected to debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March, these images of the upcoming C-Class Coupe have leaked out a little ahead of schedule. And if they're anything to go by, the German automaker could have a real winner on its hands. It's expected to preview a facelift for the sedan and wagon of the same family as well, with a new front-end featuring prominent LED lighting, with engines potentially including four, six and eight cylinders. We'll have to wait another couple of months before firm details arrive, but in the meantime you can view the images in the gallery below for a preview.

Mercedes-Benz Reportedly Preparing C-Class Coupe and Convertible

For the past decade or so, the Mercedes-Benz CLK straddled the divide between the company's C-Class and E-Class. Now, however, Mercedes has brought the coupe and convertible back into the E-Class fold for the new generation (pictured above), leaving space underneath for a smaller variant. And if the latest reports are to be believed, Benz plans on filling that void.

With eyes on the BMW 1 Series and 3 Series coupes and convertibles, the new two-door C-Class is expected to arrive in about a year or two. Look for power coming in V6 form, with or without turbochargers, with the potential addition of a V8-powered AMG performance model and a possible hybrid variant as well.
