Marilyn Monroe's Famous Pink Gown Up For Auction

Although she's been gone for over 40 years, the price Marilyn Monroe collectibles still attest to power of her legend. The pink satin gown she wore in the Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend sequence in "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" is up for sale as part of the Profiles in History's auction on June 10-12, 2010. The gown was worn by Marilyn as the gold-digging Lorelei Lee in the scene which was later copied by Madonna for her "Material Girl" video. The dress by designer William Travilla is estimated at $150,000-$250,000 but could go higher. The famous beaded gown she wore to sing Happy Birthday for John F. Kennedy went for $1,267,500 at auction at Christie's in 1999.

Other pieces up for auction include the The Wicked Witch of the West's Hat from "The Wizard of Oz" estimated at $100,000-$150,000; Darth Vader's light saber from "Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi" estimated at $60,000-$80,000 and Michael Keaton's Batsuit from "Batman Returns" estimated at $30,000-$50,000. The third day of the auction is devoted to Star Trek collectibles.

When it comes to fashion, families rule.

In Manhattan yesterday, Moises de la Renta, son of Oscar, debuted his very first collection, a limited edition T-shirt line called MDLR for a Spanish chain. Moises has been widely quoted for saying his designs meld his father's classic aesthetic with a younger, rock and roll edge. He said he went after traditional romantic themes: "from pretty patchworks with summer flowers in somber colors such as rose, violet, grey and black to graphic illusions which combine transparent effects, with shiny gems and adornments in between." For between $36 to $50, snag an MDLR T-shirt at Mango stores this month.

Famous fashion families seem to be popping up everywhere. Pasadena sisters Laura and Kate Mulleavy have zoomed into the fashion stratosphere in a relatively very short time with their Rodarte brand. Actress Sienna Miller and her sis Savannah are having success with Twenty8Twelve. And, of course, there are the Olsen twins with The Row and Elizabeth & James. Mother Tina and Beyonce Knowles run the House of Dereon. And Nathalie Rykiel has been working alongside her mother Sonia for decades.

Just a few weeks ago, Madonna is betting a tween line she's designing with daughter Lourdes Ciccone (called-what else?-Material Girl) will ring the registers at Macy's.

Madonna's Material Girl Past Up For Sale

The dress that Madonna wore in the 1985 "Material Girl" video is just one of the items being auctioned off during The Fame Bureau's Rock and Roll sale on April 28. The original costume including the long satin gloves has an estimate of £60,000-80,000. And how's this for a piece of Madonna history, you can also bid on her gold American Express card (cut in half of course) that she used during the late 1980s.

The auction also includes Beatles memorabilia, signed guitars and a never-heard before recording from Jimi Hendrix including tracks for his Electric Ladyland and the Dylan track 'Tears of Rage' The tapes are expected to sell for £100,000 - £150,000.
