Mary J. Blige To Sell Perfume on HSN

Singer Mary J. Blige will become the latest celebrity with a fragrance when her scent 'My Life' debuts this summer. The name of the scent comes from her well-regarded 1994 album. Blige who is an ambassador for and investor in the beauty brand Carol's Daughter is creating her fragrance with the company. The scent won't appear in stores but will be sold through the Home Shopping Network beginning July 31.Carol's Daughter's products have appeared on HSN before and have been a huge hit. HSN is also filming vignettes of Blige's life that will be part of the HSN sales pitch.

The fragrance is described as having top notes of gardenia petals, Bartlett pear and white freesia with a heart of tuberose, blooming jasmine, gold lily and apricot flower and base notes of cashmere woods, praline, sesame and incense. It will sell for $46 for 1.7 ounces and will be sold with a clutch purse. One dollar from every bottle sale will go to her foundation, the Foundation for the Advancement of Women Now. Big names in fashion and music are hoping to bring more attention to International Women's Day that- although a United Nations-supported holiday-gets less PR than Columbus Day. IWD falls on Monday, March 8, which is a designated time to celebrate the social economic and political achievements of women.

Diane von Furstenberg, fashion designer and president of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), is putting out Proud to be Woman, a compilation CD to benefit Vital Voices, an organization dedicated to empowering women worldwide. The CD features female artists such as Joss Stone, Mary J. Blige, Estelle, Bebel Gilberto, Christina Aguilera, Angelique Kidjo, Mozella and Annie Lenox, among others. The CD goes for $15.99 (proceeds will benefit Vital Voices) and will be sold at DVF boutiques worldwide, dvf.com and on iTunes at itunes.com/dvf.

DVF boutiques will also host two events: Estelle is expected to attend the March 8 party in New York. Another event will be held on March 16 in Los Angeles with Mozella slated to appear. There will also be a Proud to be Woman tote bag, for $35. From March 8 to March 15, some10 percent of the sales will go to Vital Voices.

Blige & Bloomberg Step Out for NY Women's Foundation Gala

mary j bligeGrammy award winning R&B songstress Mary J. Blige and Mayor Michael Bloomberg were the star attractions at the The New York Women's Foundation (NYWF) Fall Dinner 2009 the other night held at Manhattan's chic Gotham Hall.

Blige (right) performed at the exclusive event, where guests included socialites Agnes Gund, Anne Bass, Muffie Potter Aston, Sharon Bush, Debbie Bancroft, Jean Shafiroff, Denise Rich, and designer Catherine Malandrino.

Stepping Up Awards were presented to New Yorkers who "serve as role models of courageous leadership, vision and commitment to women and girls as individuals and as partners," including Elizabeth and Herbert Sturz and Sheryl WuDunn and Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Nicholas D. Kristof.

Established in 1987 as a public philanthropy, the NYWF strategically funds organizations and programs that move women, girls and families towards long-term economic security through individual transformation and systemic change.

Mary J. Blige and Gucci Partner On Charity Watch

ffawn gucci watchThe sleek Gucci watch shown at right is a chic bauble for a good cause. Fashion Week Daily reports that Gucci will be hosting a charity cocktail night during New York's Fashion Week with Mary J. Blige. The limited-edition black PVD twirl watch which features a face framed in black diamonds will be sold to benefit Blige's foundation: The Foundation for the Adavancement of Women Now or FFAWN. The watch will sell for $1,895 and debuts at Gucci's Fifth Avenue store on September 16. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Blige's charity.
