Marcel Wanders United Crystal Wood Collection from Baccarat

Luxist attended the premiere of the United Crystal Woods collection, from famed Dutch designer Marcel Wanders for Baccarat, held at the Museum of Arts & Design, with a gorgeous view of Columbus Circle. Baccarat, winner of the Luxist Readers' Choice Award is the ultimate in luxury glassware. Each piece is entirely handmade in the Baccarat village of France. The heavy weighted crystal of the classic Baccarat we were handed when entering made the champagne taste divine. We quickly realized, while exploring the latest collection, that drinking out of a Baccarat glass is the ONLY way to drink champagne.

Wanders has collaborated over the years with nearly every major designer, including Flor, Vitra, B&B Italia and Bisazza. But nothing could prepare us for the latest Baccarat collection, easily Wander's best collaboration to date. It all began with a dream Wanders had, after a long dinner party, waking up with his head on the table, in a room full of gorgeous empty glasses. "I woke up in the forest of the united crystals," he said in his artist statement. "Too much light forcing me to close my eyes, too many sparkles for a heavy night, boys will always be boys."

Marcel Wanders Swing

Marcel Wanders is at it again with a playful creation with Droog Design. The seat of this swing can be filled with soil and seeds planted inside. It is designed so that vines will grow up the ropes. The swing is made of polyethylene with a nylon rope and comes in white, black or green. It can be used indoors or outside but will cost you more than a rope and a board, it sells for $550.

Chubby, by Marcel Wanders

The Chubby armchair by Marcel Wanders is an interesting combination of cute, sleek, and modern all wrapped into one design. Looking like it was formed out of colorful Play Dough, the chair is smooth and round and looks outrageously comfortable -- although for real relaxing a higher back would probably be nice. It's available in 5 colors (white, black, green, red, and orange) and there's also a coordinating footstool called Chubby Low (see it in the gallery below) that looks like an overgrow piece of chewing gum. Good times.

Marcel Wanders Designs For Yoo

The Yoo design team which has created residential projects around the world with designers Phiippe Starck and Jade Jagger, has hooked up with another internationally famous designer, Dutch designer Marcel Wanders (he's the one in the center in the picture at right). Wanders is not as well known as Starck (at least here in the U.S.) but his home designs share a similar mixture of wit and utility. Wanders has designed for a variety of brands including Bizazza, Droog Design, Capellini and Moooi, and his work has appeared in the Museum of Modern Art in New York. This isn't his first spin as an interior designer, Wanders has also designed the interiors of Mondrian's South Beach, Miami & Las Vegas hotels and the interior of restaurants 'Blits' in Rotterdam and 'Thor' at the Hotel on Rivington in New York.

The latest design from superdesigner Marcel Wanders is the Flos Skygarden is a new pendant light series. The Skygarden was inspired by an antique decorated plaster ceiling in one of Wanders's previous homes. The exterior of the lamp is done in sleek glossy black, white, rust or gold. The interior shows intricate old-fashioned detail including leaves flowers and branches. The light bulb cover also has a laser cut pattern featuring one of Marcel Wanders design patterns. Marcel Wanders Ballerina Chair

The Ballerina chair created by eclectic designer Marcel Wanders for Baleri Italia is a must-have for a very girly house. The tubular steel bistro-style chair has a heart-shaped back and a cushion draped in a modest cover available in a variety of colors. Wanders loves quirky design and I think he meant this one in an ironic sense but the overall effect is a bit toothnumbingly cute. It sells for $467.
