Snow Bunny Chic, Hot Looks For Cold Weather

The winter season is in full swing. And that means it's time to hit the slopes. Skiing is such an exhilarating sport and one that I've been learning for the past 5 years. As much as I love the sport itself - the anticipation that builds while your on the lift, the thrill you experience as you first rush down the mountain, the peace of mind you have as you find your rhythm and skillfully maneuver your way down to the bottom - I really enjoyed buying all the gear that comes with it.

Seeing D&G's Fall 2010 collection revived an excitement for hitting the slopes and looking as stylish as possible. Their collection was filled with traditional winter motifs but paired with unexpected pieces like a snowflake sweater bodysuit and reindeer full body all in ones. So to get you ready for ski season, we've gathered some fashionably chic ski gear essentials to not only keep you warm but also looking your best as you ski down the mountain slopes or lounge in front of a fireplace in the lodge.

12 Chic Capes for the Fall

Capes seem to be everywhere this season. They serve well as chic transitional outwear for chilly weather without unnecessarily committing to a bulky, blizzard-ready winter jacket.

After browsing through an abundance of styles, it was a pleasant surprise to find capes that are laid back and casual as well as super luxurious and elegant. The choices are endless matching whatever occasion you may encounter.

Given a cape's voluminous silhouette, add balance by pairing with slim fitting trousers or even jeans and viola - you have yourself a stylish and on trend outfit with little effort.

Initially, I would suggest wearing heels to add height and avoid looking frumpy, but when I came across Gryphon's Sherlock Cape ($595) - featured to the right - I was actually surprised how well it works even with the most casual of outfits. What a great look for cool fall days while you're out and about.

Morcheba Embellished Leather Clutch, Handbag of the Day

Malene Birger has gone bead crazy on this casual Embellished Leather Clutch and it works, perhaps in part because from a distance it looks very much like a trendy stud treatment. The underlying handbag base is a basic fold-over style clutch in black leather and it's almost completely covered in a mix of gold, silver, brass, and copper-tone beads. There's a prominent exposed zipper on the front (functional, with pocket), and the clutch fully lined in black with another zip pocket on the inside. An eclectic, edgy accessory to pair with your favorite pair of jeans. $445
