Maison Martin Margiela Satin Shoulder Bag, Handbag of the Day

Maison Martin Margiela Satin shoulder bag
The color is the primary focus on this Maison Martin Margiela Satin Shoulder Bag. Pink satin can be tough to pull off but this bright shade of fuschia is quite luxe and gorgeous, although I'm not crazy about the soft-body nature of the design as it gives the whole thing a slight 'make-up bag' vibe. Regardless it's very pretty and the addition of a dainty double chain shoulder strap and minimalist shiny silver hardware gives it a classy and feminine energy. This handbag has a zip top, a combination lock on the pull, and one interior pocket with a black twill lining. $865

Maison Martin Margiela Wooden Wallets

Maison Martin Margiela Wooden WalletsMaison Martin Margiela never fails to surprise us. The always risk-taking fashion house keeps us guessing with what they'll produce next by creating unique and unconventional pieces.

As part of their Spring/Summer 2011 Collection, a set of Wooden Wallets ($425) caught our attention. Made from solid wood with a lacquer finish, the grains are emphasized beautifully. The interior is leather with three credit card slots, three compartments and an elastic to secure your cash. Available in dark and light wood.

Maison Martin Margiela x Cutler and Gross Sunglasses

Maison Martin Margiela x Cutler and Gross Sunglasses
Experimental, provocative, avant garde French fashion label Maison Martin Margiela has teamed up with London-based luxury eyewear manufacturer Cutler and Gross on its first full collection of sunglasses. The collection, handmade in Italy for both men and women, features two distinct concepts, "Wrong Size" and "Anatomic", both offered in acetate and metal varieties. The "Wrong Size" range highlights Martin Margiela's pension for deconstruction and the experimental. Classic Cutler and Gross aviator-style frames are deconstructed then reconstructed with wrong sized lenses, making for a decadent and distinct pair of sunglasses. The Anatomic range features extra-large futuristic, functional wraparounds that "anatomically" wrap around the wearer's whole face providing absolute coverage. Prices for the collection, now available via haute online eyewear boutique Eyegoodies, range from $550 – $680 per pair.

Margiela's brown chunky boots would look ideal with leggings or steel gray skinny jeans contrasted with an ultra feminine top.

12 Chic Capes for the Fall

Capes seem to be everywhere this season. They serve well as chic transitional outwear for chilly weather without unnecessarily committing to a bulky, blizzard-ready winter jacket.

After browsing through an abundance of styles, it was a pleasant surprise to find capes that are laid back and casual as well as super luxurious and elegant. The choices are endless matching whatever occasion you may encounter.

Given a cape's voluminous silhouette, add balance by pairing with slim fitting trousers or even jeans and viola - you have yourself a stylish and on trend outfit with little effort.

Initially, I would suggest wearing heels to add height and avoid looking frumpy, but when I came across Gryphon's Sherlock Cape ($595) - featured to the right - I was actually surprised how well it works even with the most casual of outfits. What a great look for cool fall days while you're out and about.

Maison Martin Margiela Shirt Goes Japanese For World AIDS Day

The charity AIDS T-Shirt has been present in all Maison Martin Margiela collections since Fall/Winter 1994/1995 but this is the first year that the text will be done in Japanese. The shirt says: "There is more action to be done to fight AIDS than to wear this t-shirt but it's a good start." The shirt takes a unique approach to slogan wearing with most of the text printed inside the shirt. The theory behind this is that dialogue is not necessary when the slogan is clearly visible but this shirt encourages the reader to ask the wearer to explain what is written on their T-Shirt.

A percentage of the sales is donated to 'AIDES', a French organization dedicated to fight the HIV virus and take care of patients living with HIV/AIDS. Over the years, 170,000 T-shirts have been sold and brought a contribution of over 700,000 euros to 'AIDES'. In addition to the seasonal English version, the Maison has decided to have a yearly edition every time in a different language for the World AIDS day, starting with Japanese. Created in Paris, sold around the world, worn touching the heart, this limited edition charity AIDS T-shirt will be exclusively available in all Maison Martin Margiela stores. World AIDS Day is December 1.

Maison Martin Margiela Wood Print Pumps

The designers behind Maison Martin Margiela are experts in creating looks that are completely unexpected and far from trendy. Even their website throws you off as it looks more like a page out of a computer programming code book than the flash obsessed luxury website many of us are use to.

I recently came across Margiela's Patent Wood Print Pumps ($950) and could not take my eyes off of them. It's shape is reminiscent of a traditional Dutch wooden clog while it's patent leather dark wood print is a unique and off-the-wall playful touch. They feature a small side zipper and 4 inch heel. Since these statement shoes posses so much character, pair with an understated outfit and add some funky jewels and a handbag for a complete wow outfit.

Maison Martin Margiela Line 11 Sleeve Frame Clutch, Handbag of the Day

Maison Martin Margiela Line 11 Sleeve Frame ClutchThe Maison Martin Margiela Line 11 Sleeve Frame Clutch is one of the more unexpected handbags we've seen in awhile.

"I could get a shammy from an auto parts store, turn it inside out and sew it up and have the same thing," commented my fiance as he looked at the item. "And it would be a lot cheaper."

I admit I had to use Google to find out what a "shammy" was, and when I replied that the shammy didn't really seem to look like this, he countered with "well, what if I just turn your old pair of Uggs inside-out?"

Hmm. Well, 1. I don't think anyone would want to do that; those are well-worn Uggs. 2. He has a point. Uggs are a lot less expensive than this purse.

This 8" x 14" x 5" frame clutch is shearling, like Uggs. It has a kisslock closure and a fabric-lined interior with a leather trimmed zipper pocket. While this clutch offers a unique texture and is a perfect match for your shearling-trimmed coat ... we just ... we're flabbergasted by this purse. I mean ... come on. You could get a zero-emissions G-Bike for the same price.

The Maison Martin Margiela Line 11 Sleeve Frame Clutch is available from Barneys for $1,115.

Maison Martin Margiela Shearling Bag, Handbag of the Day

Maison Martin Margiela Shearling Bag
Maison Martin Margiela went textured and cozy in creating this Shearling Bag. The main body of the bag is made of anthracite shearling but there's a matching leather panel covering the bottom half of one side. The single shoulder handle is cutout of the main shape and features shearling trim, as does the front. There's a shearling-lined compartment, a compartment partially lined in black twill, and one interior zip pocket. Top closure is via a magnetic strip and for a little extra interest there's signature white stitch detail on the back leather panel. $1,440

Maison Martin Margiela Launching First Fragrance

Quirky fashion brand Maison Martin Margiela is releasing its first scent. The blandly-named Untitled is a unisex scent created by perfumer Daniela Andrier from Givaudan who has created scents for Gucci and Prada. Untitled is described as being a green scent with incense-like amber notes. The simple bottle, designed in collaboration with Fabien Baron, was inspired by 19th century glass stoppered bottles and reinforces the idea that the scent is made to be worn by anyone. Untitled will be available from Colette starting on January 25 and then will be rolled out internationally over the next few months. For coverage of the recent unveiling of the scent check out this comprehensive piece on StyleBubble.

Maison Martin Margiela Distressed Perforated Tote, Handbag of the Day

maison martin margielaA beautiful and versatile bag that can easily transition from the crisp whites of winter to the softer whites of spring, this Distressed Perforated Tote by Maison Martin Margiela is a stylish but casual wardrobe accessory. Made of crackled leather with perforated detailing and antiqued hardware, it opens at the top and features leather snap closures and a zip pocket on the inside. Airbrushed Wolf Sac Bag, Handbag of the Day

Who doesn't want to take an angry snarling wolf with them wherever they go? I know I sure do! This is the Airbrushed Wolf Sac Bag by Maison Martin Margiela (I always think that's such a mouthful of a name) and it's a bag that communicates both designer taste and bad attitude style. Classically shaped by simply draping leather from a rounded handle, the bag is unlined and is mostly open at the top with a silver metal clasp. Measures 22" across at the widest point, and has one interior zip pocket that dangles from the handle. $1,195

Designer Steel-Toed Boots, Already Destroyed

There are few things better in life than slipping your feet into a favorite pair of well-worn, comfortable, broken in shoes. It's such a luxury because it takes months and even years to get shoes into that broken-down customized state.

Or does it? Maison Martin Margiela has designed this Steel-toed Destroyed Boot that comes pre-broken in. And in a serious way too -- the leather is so distressed on the toe that the steel lining actually shows through.

I think they look awesome in pictures but I can't help feeling like buying something already destroyed like this is cheating -- isn't what makes a pair of worn boots so cool the stories behind how they got that way? $1,145

Maison Martin Margiela Can Tab Necklace

With the world's focus on improving, or more appropriately, saving the environment, designers and artists are reusing everyday products to create something new. There's no reason to waste something that you can put to good use in another way. At times, it can be a successful venture and quite useful. Others times, it becomes more eye candy than functional. Either way, the journey of making something new is always exhilarating for the designer and exciting for its audience to view. Belgium Designer, Martin Margiela, appears to have put the idea of reusing common items to the test when designing his accessory line. Who knew a can tab could be turned into something so beautiful? Margiela's Can Tab Cascade Necklace ($695) features hints of gold accents throughout for slightly sparkling effect. If his necklace is a bit too bold and you fancy a piece more subdued, check out the Can Tab Ring ($135) which features an oversize can tab at the center. See below for more fashionable innovations by Martin Margiela.

Maison Martin Margiela Spotlight Clutch, Handbag of the Day

Wow, for just being a pattern on leather the "spotlight" on this Maison Martin Margiela Spotlight Clutch sure looks like it's really lighting up! It's a pretty basic black and white handbag that doesn't have much exciting going other than the bright white explosion on the front left side, but that's nice as sometimes keeping it simple makes for a breath of fresh air. Made of soft-grained leather it has a square clutch shape with a large flap and hidden magnetic closure, plus a smooth leather lining and interior zip pocket. A very "understated statement" kind of bag. $995
