Bloomingdale's Exclusive Beatles iPod Set

Attention Beatles fans, Bloomingdale's has a music package tailor-made for you. The Beatles iPod Set includes a special limited edition 120 G black iPod (it's etched with the Beatles' logo on the front and Abbey Road on the back),13 original Beatles' CDs plus 2 masters and the "Love" cd, plus an engraved guitar pick.

The package isn't Apple's idea but Bloomingdale's, which means the music on all the included cds doesn't come pre-loaded on the iPod and isn't even all available on iTunes. Bizarre.

But even if you have to rip your own mp3s it's still a great package and there are only 2500 available, exclusively at Bloomingdale's, for $795 each.

Disney's Mplayer Swarovski

Who wants a plain old Mickey-shaped mp3 player when you can have one all decked out with ribbons and Swarovski crystals? The Mplayer Swarovski is the same Mplayer it always was on the inside (1 GB, up to 9 hours of play time), but the outside is now all jazzed up with a variety of different colors, themes, and accessories (this one is called "Little Girl"). Available in limited edition of 500 they're now available in Japan for about $137-$150 each (the standard versions sell for around $50).

iDiamond Ear

Apparently we all can't get enough of diamond earpieces for our mp3 players, because new ones keep popping up. One of the latest is the iDiamond Ear from Norwegian jeweler Heyerdahl Jewelers, and it's being marketed as "the world's most exclusive earphones for commercial sale." The iDiamond Ear is created by dipping Apple earbud headphones in 18k gold and covering them in 204 brilliant cut diamonds. There will be only 1,000 pairs created, which will be numbered and sold exclusively in the Heyerdahl store starting this upcoming February. $6,400

It's all about "multimedia" these days with cell phones that double as mp3 players and iPods that play movies. But have you ever considered getting yourself a multimedia washbasin? It probably strikes you as ridiculous (and if it doesn't it probably should), but honestly I think it's actually a pretty cool idea. At least I think this interpretation, the Meltdown Sink by WET STUDIO, is a cool idea. The Meltdown functions as (of course) a sink, but in addition to that it has the following decidedly unique and weird (but totally fun and useful) multimedia features:
• It glows from within in your choice of orange, lemon, white, or black.
• The glow can be customized with a small static projection screen to display personalized messages, artwork, or anything else onto the sink's surface from within.
• An internal amplified speaker system allows the sink to play your CDs and mp3s. No more ugly radio in the bathroom messing up your decor!

The $40,000 iPod Shuffle

I don't quite get it, but we seem to be seeing the smallest of the iPods, the Shuffle, getting decked out more than any of the others. Now don't get me wrong, the Shuffle is cute as a button and the bling looks good on it, I just can't understand why people would bother to decorate a gadget that costs less than $100 and is the "lowest" member of its own family.

But if you're going to do it then do it all out, right? How about $40,000 worth of 'all out?' Because that's how much this pretty little diamond and gold coated iPod will run you. And for that price no detail is overlooked -- there's even diamonds and gold on the earbuds.

Sony Launches the NW-E010 Series MP3 Players with Swarovski Crystals

These are just darling, don't you think? They're the latest stick type mp3 players/USB drives from Sony. Available in a beautiful mix of pastel colors (blue, gold, pink, and violet) and black (classy), the cap is covered with a design in Swarovski crystals. Sony has announced that the 'NW-E010 series' will be available by the end of next month in the Japanese market (they get everything first it seems!) and no word on when they might make an appearance here in the U.S. Pricing is expected to be around 18,800 yen for the 2GB versions and 24,800 yen for 4GB.

I love the iPod shuffle -- there's no doubt it's the cutest member of the iPod family simply because it's the smallest, and it has that handy little clip on the back. And even though they come in a variety of colors Apple has yet to offer shuffles in a genuine 18 karat gold finish. So for that kind of bling you're going to have to seek out after-market help, and XEXOO is where you want to go.

In truth they'll golden-up any iPod, be it shuffle, nano, or the video versions. Other benefits, besides the style factor, are 24 hour support and what is basically an iPod insurance policy: they'll replace it for you if anything happens (i.e. you drop it in the pool or run over it with your car).

Phillips and Swarovski's Active Crystal Collection

There's always room for more bling in our lives, sometimes in the most unlikely of places. It's not that I haven't seen decked out USB drives before, but I guess I just figure if you're going to go there then do it right and go all out. The Phillips-Swarovski Active Crystal collection definitely goes there, squeezing as many Swarovski crystals as possible onto some very cute electronic gadgets. For USB drives there's the 1 GB "Heart Beat," a two-piece locket style, and the 1 GB "Lock-Out," and retractable padlock shaped one, both of which will sell for $179.

The collection also includes headphones and earbuds with large crystals embedded in each ear piece. Available in 4 different designs they will range in price from $79-$149. The entire line is scheduled to come out this August.

Outfit Your Nano in an $800 Titanium Case

People are serious about their iPods, there's no doubt about that, but are they $800 serious? The FACTRON Re-Nano case is betting on it, made of pure titanium (titanium!) and ending up quite industrial-looking. Priced at just over $800, of all the iPod designs it will only fit the nano -- which doesn't make much sense to me. Either make a version for all the iPods, or if you only want to make one at least make it for the biggest and baddest of the iPods, not the younger brother version.

I love my nano, but believe you me I'm not spending five times more on the case than I did on the gadget itself! Not unless it's a heck of a lot cuter than this anyway.

Aluratek Photo Frame Plays Music and Video

I've always considered the digital photo frame to be a rather curious gadget without a lot of functionality but Aluratek has created a new version that doesn't just display your photos but also has 256MB of built-in memory. The photo frame can play background music or video in addition to holding all your photos. It even has a remote control. The 10.5-inch frames let you transfer files directly from your computer. The frame has 1024x768 video resolution and sells for $199. This might make an excellent gift for Mother's Day.

The Bling Media Player -- Making a statement...

"Bling" is right! Complete with artificial jewels running up and down the sides, with a shiny chain and skull, there's definitely some glitz happening here -- although I'll let you decide if it's the good kind or the bad. Surprisingly, though, this decked-out little media player has some nice features on the inside, including a bigger than expected memory, a built-in microphone, and an FM tuner with recording.

And for only $200 the magic can be yours, although it's certainly not for the shy or the insecure! (Or the refined, or the classical...)

Archos 404 Camcorder

Our siblings at Engadget have been all over this since mid last year but the Archos 404 just popped up on my far-less-gadget-attuned radar. The cool thing about the Archos 404 camcorder is that it is an media player with a built-in camcorder that records 80 hours of VGA-quality video (640 x 480) on a 30GB hard drive. It can also store 25 movies, 300,000 photos or 15,000 songs. It can also record directly from TV in high-quality MPEG-4 with an optional DVR station, has a 1.3 megapixel camera for still photos and is compatible with a PC or a Mac. The device weighs under seven ounces and has a 3.5 inch screen. The vacation friendly device sells for $299.99.

If you're looking for something unique in your next MP3 player, forget iPods. Electronics manufacturer Gresso, formerly best known for their high-end cell phones, is launching a line of luxury MP3 players with prices from $4,000 - $6,000. The Symphonia Collection includes four models, each made of a different combination of materials: Blackwood and White Gold, Blackwood and Pink Gold, White Gold and Pink Gold. All models, which measure only 39mm x 39mm x 10.5mm each, use only 18K gold and have a flat keyboard with a patented scratch-resistant covering. The players have built-in FM tuners and 1GB of flash memory. The line will hit select retailers within the next few months.
