Hoverit's Limited Edition Floating Lounger

Do you have a favorite comfy chair? One that you can sink into and suddenly all your stresses seem to float away? Well Hoverit, a British company, is introducing their latest in stress relieving and lounging technology: The Limited Edition Lounger. The concept is that you'll feel like you're floating on air because you will actually be floating on air...in a sense. Powerful magnets set to repel each other make the lounger feel like a big comfy hoverboard, and as an added benefit the magnets may also help with various health issues.

The chair may look cool in a futuristic and techie way, but other than the "floating" part it hardly looks cool in a comfortable way. Why are they so anti-cushion?

Not sure what this beauty costs, but I'm willing to bet it's more than your average furniture mart recliner chair.

Ray-Ban Ultra Gold

Aviator sunglasses are a classic design -- and it seems people either love 'em or hate 'em. If you're on the "love 'em" side then here's some news you'll probably like: Ray-Ban Ultra Gold Limited Edition glasses. There are only two different designs, features including ultra light titanium frames, P3 polarized lenses, anti-reflective coating, a cool hydrophobic moisture-wicking coating, and of course gold -- in the form of 22k gold plating. The "limited edition" refers to the fact that only 25,000 pairs of Ultra Gold glasses are being made, so if you get a pair you've legitimately earned the right to sport the popular "I'm too cool for you" aviator face while you wear them.

J.K. Rowling's Book of Fairy Tales Finished: But Only Told to the Rich

We have all been waiting eagerly to see what projects J.K. Rowling will embark upon in the post-Harry Potter days. News that she has not only chosen a project, but completed it -- a volume of fairy tales entitled The Tales of Beedle the Bard -- is thrilling indeed. Except when you read further. Only seven copies will be printed handwritten. The seventh one (the other six were gifts) will be sold at auction, with a starting price of $62,000. Given that a first-edition Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone sold for $40,000, it seems that this volume will sell for far more.

While the proceeds are headed to charity (surely a laudable goal), something in this news makes me queasy. When J.K. Rowling burst to the scene with her first Harry Potter books, much was made of her struggling, lower-class background: the welfare mom made good. And many pundits have lauded her tales for making reading exciting again for children everywhere. She made literature relevant to even those who were, like she was once, just squeaking by.

So the concept of exclusive literature leaves me cold. If you're interested in the etymology, however, it's more than appropriate: a bard was a poet employed by the wealthy to tell tales of their great deeds. I always thought of J.K. Rowling as something far more free-spirited; but it this bard's tales will only be told to a few.

Update:
A commenter pointed out that I was incorrect that these would be printed -- the books are handwritten. However, the commenter says these copies will be available to the public; that is not true according to this source.

Rev Up with the Lamborghini Coffee Machine

I love my little white Mr Coffee -- stains and all he's been a good buddy through many early mornings and late night projects, always making awesome cups of coffee. But, loyal as I am, I can't help but be tempted by what an awesome experience a Tonino Lamborghini coffee machine must make?

But with only 1,000 of the handmade machines out there, not to mention the $1750 price tag (just a little out of my usual coffee budget...) I doubt I'll ever get the chance to find out first hand. I might, however, be indulging in some Lamborghini coffee beans sometime soon (what a treat for Mr Coffee!).

Acqua di Parma Colonia Edizione Murano

Colonia was the name of the first scent put out by Acqua di Parma when it opened its first perfumery in Italy in 1916. Originally marketed towards men, it was catapulted into the spotlight in the 1930's and 1940's by celebrities who adored it. This March, Acqua di Parma is relaunching the woodsy, citrusy scent as the limited edition Colonia Edizione Murano. The new release comes in a hand blown, art deco-style glass bottle, which is packed with a small funnel designed for decanting the perfume in a black velvet box lined with yellow silk. The bottle design was done in conjunction with artist Giorgio Vigna and only 1,1000 hand signed and numbered pieces will be made.

80th Anniversary Winnie-The-Pooh

To commemorate the 80th anniversary of the publishing of A.A. Milne's children's classic, Winnie-the-Pooh, Steiff has released a limited edition, plush Pooh bear. The bear is the largest yet made by the company and is 32-in. tall. He is made with blonde mohair fur and wears a suede vest. The details are hand-sewn. Only 1,000 of the fully jointed bears were produced, making them highly collectible for Steiff fans, as well as for fans of the book. Price: $775.

And if you're going for Pooh bear, don't forget to pick up his buddies Eyeore ($315), Piglet ($235) and Tigger ($235), too!

Wall of Kiss Birkenstocks

We first mentioned Heidi Klum's collection from Birkenstock a couple of months ago when it seemed to be primarily available in Germany. The line is now hitting the US with some new spring styles, so expect to see them in stores this season. The pair pictured here are the limited edition Wall of Kiss Birkenstocks. The clogs are made of crushed suede and are adorned with Seal lyrics written in Heidi's hand. They are available in cream, black, blue, light brown and red, all with Birkenstock's signature footbed. Limited Edition Christofle Square Tray

Christofle is known for their elegant silver pieces and this limited edition Square Tray is a standout. Designed by Michele Oka Doner, the 15.5-inch tray is hand-carved "to express natural textures." Every one of the 50 trays is signed and numbered. Price: $7,600.

On a slightly different note, did you know that Vivre has recipes on their website? I would think that someone looking for a recipe would turn to Slashfood, a cookbook or another ell-established recipe source, rather than to an online shopping site, but the recipes are contributed by La Grenouille restaurant, so at least there is some credibility behind them. This month's is Oysters with Champagne, a festive first course (served on a silver platter, of course) for a New Year's party.

Baccarat Reflex Vase

Really exclusive gifts can be difficult to track down because there are just so few of them. The Baccarat Reflex Vase is one such object. The handcrafted vases were designed by Nicholas Triboulot and are made of full lead crystal. Each stands 15.75" high and are both signed and numbered. Price: $10,000.
