Delong Place, Estate of the Day

Today's home is the largest mansion for sale in Lexington, Kentucky. This massive property was inspired by a 17th century English country home. It sits on 11 acres with award-winning formal gardens and bronze statuary (some perched in odd places including two scampering up the home's gate). The five-bedroom home has over 24,000 square feet of space. The listing pictures give just a hint of the grand scale of this place. There are massive fireplaces, large staircases, a dining room with a table so long it requires two chandeliers and a wood-paneled library. This home is listed at $6.5 million.

From Hotel To Condo To Hotel Again For One Florida Building

An interesting story out of Orlando that might make you think twice about picking up a lower-priced condo as an investment property. The Lexington, a condo tower that was formerly a downtown hotel, is now becoming a hotel again. Those who bought condos at The Lexington are being offered a flat fee of $88,000 to be bought out. This fee is, in most cases, less than half of what the owners paid.

The buildins is home to 227 condos which will now all be part of a Crowne Plaza hotel. For the 30 people still owning condos they are facing a difficult choice: they can either accept the flat fee or pay $4,700 in upgrades for their unit and then rent it out. Owners who sign up for the rental program will get half of the $122 per night room rate. Some owners are understandably upset about the situation, especially those who bought in hoping that their property would be a good investment.

Canterbridgia, Estate of the Day

As a rule, I don't highlight homes in progress unless they are truly interesting. But I don't often seem contemporary homes being built in the horse country of Lexington, Kentucky. This modern home sits on over 10 acres of Bluegrass land. The home is on a private lane and has both a main house and separate guest quarters. The modern home will have a reflecting pool along the front entry and access will be via a bridge over the pool and a water fall with pool installed along the rear. The tower includes a balcony. The home is all angles and glass and steel. The only traditional notes seem to be the massive brick fireplaces and the Kentucky Walnut floors. There will be an indoor/outdoor spa room with glass walls, skylights, outside limestone shower, Finlander sauna and whirlpool. The home will have an impressive Artemedia Kitchen from Valcucine done in gray glass with graffiti artwork signed by the artist and the latest high-end appliances.

The master bedroom is on the first floor and will have a tub and limestone shower and stairs leading to a dressing room and the spa room. There will also be a media room with a viewing platform and motorized curtains. The second level will have three bedroom suits with private baths. Other features include a solar heating system, library, dog wash and an office. The guest quarters include a living room, kitchen with laundry and a master suite and there is also a three car garage. It is listed at $4.25 million. After the jump, future Dwell eye candy.

The Commons in Lexington Center

Lexington, Massachusetts, a bedroom community outside Boston which may be familiar to American History buffs, is also one of the priciest places to live in Massachusetts. The tree-lined streets are mainly full of single family homes so news of a luxury condo project is intriguing. The Commons in Lexington Center is a 30-unit project, that will replace the 90-room Battle Green Inn in Lexington village. The new condos will also have retail space on the ground floor. According to a recent article in the Boston Globe, no one is sorry to see the old inn go and there is already a great deal of buzz around the project. Demolition of the old hotel should start next month and then the new building will go up. Units start at $550,000 and go over $1 million.
