Michael Kors Beverly Gator Watch Clutch, Handbag of the Day

This bright bag from Michael Kors definitely scores some points for originality. A simple alligator-embossed leather clutch in a fresh lime green is dressed up with a masculine, gold-tone...watchband? I guess it is better than skulls and bracelet charms, but where is this taking us? If leftover watch parts can find a home on high-end handbags, can cuff links and tie tacks be far behind? It is a lovely bag that probably would have been best left unadorned. $3,000.

Bugs on a bag might not sound all that attractive, but when it's a ladybug, it is nothing short of cute. Cinching up a strip of soft Italian leather, the gold-plated, crystal-encrusted ladybug adds a bit of whimsy and color to an otherwise plain clutch. Under the flap is a magnetic snap closure and inside, the bag is lined in satin and has a removable mirror. Measuring 10½"W x 5"H x 2"D, this clutch is just as cute in the metallic gold version. $250.

Michael Kors is big on the buckles these days and I can see the attraction. The gold-tone hardware adds a dash of shine while giving the appearance of being completely functional. Of course, this big gold buckle is purely decorative but it looks lovely with a wide patent leather strap threaded through. The bag itself looks pretty simple, but there are actually three different leathers involved in the patchwork pattern - patent, matte and suede. The bag fastens with a magnetic snap and is also available in a brown/black version. $395.

Juicy Couture Frame Clutch, Handbag of the Day

I don't generally go for Juicy Couture, but this bag caught my eye. I think it is the subtle pink color peeking out beneath the gold metallic leather that gives this bag a touch of unexpected sophistication. That, and the fact that the leather itself isn't blindingly bright. With a flirty little bow and classic kiss-lock closure, this clutch would actually look good on an adult. And at $95, you could get it in both silver and gold.

Gucci calls these 'crystal' evening bags, but there are no crystals to be seen. Who needs crystals with all this sleek style? The slim clutches are available in mirror gold, black or red carpet and feature light gold or silver-tone horse-bit buckle details. With a magnetic snap closure and engraved Gucci script logo, the bags measure a dainty 3 ½"H x 8 ½ "W x ¾4"D and sell for $495.

It's a little black box all dressed up with a large bow and funky chain strap. It's cute, but I imagine the studs on the chain would be a bit uncomfortable when slung across your shoulder. The chain is detachable on one side, so tuck it into the bag and it will look lovely with your little black party dress. The back side is without adornment and the interior is lined with satin. Measuring 6 ½" wide by 3½" high by 2½ deep, it sells for $1310.

This may look like a petite little shoulder bag, but it is actually quite roomy. Measuring 23cm x 10cm x 5cm, it has a structured top with zip closure and multiple strands of pretty gold chain for a strap. A little bit of pleating adds even more dimension to the soft textured leather and the color is - well, I am not sure what you call that color. Salmon? Made in Italy, it is lined inside and features one interior pocket. £725.00

I am liking the ring handle on this bag. Silver tone metal covered with a bit of leather and adorned with an enamel logo charm, it adds a twist to this compact clutch. The kiss-lock closure peeking through the foldover tab adds even more unique charm to the bag. The leather has a nice texture and the interior is divided into two compartments with handy credit card slots. $635.

Many of Tarina Tarantino's handbags look like they were designed to be carried by children. Featuring Barbie, Hello Kitty and lots of quirky touches, the bags are playful and unique. This metallic clutch may be a little more grown up, but it still offers that little something different. A limited edition, the gold and silver leather clutch sports a very large Swarovski crystal embellishment right in the center of a big silver bow that doubles as a hand strap. Or you can carry the bag from a crystal-studded lucite bangle attached to a 10.75" long gold-tone chain. Now, that is different. The bag measures 5.75" wide, 4.25" tall, and 1.75" deep and is also available in a neon pink and white version. $465.

How do you dress up a rather plain snake-printed leather clutch? Add some over sized brass rings and attach a saber-carved piece of wood. I like the idea, but the unusual handle just doesn't seem to go on this particular bag. It looks slightly better on the black version of the clutch, but still stands out as bulky and mismatched on such a sleek bag. With a magnetic flap closure and faille lining, the bag measures 10"W by 5"H by 2½" D and has zero pockets. $315.

It's not shiny, trendy or even all that unique, but I love the worn-in look of this handmade clutch. The soft brown lambskin looks slightly distressed and is accented with a simple gold-tone ring and contrasting top stitching. At 11"L x 6.5"H, it's just large enough to make a great everyday clutch that will only get better with wear. Lined with chocolate brown satin, there are more pockets inside than you would expect - a cell phone, slide and 7" zippered. $350.

This is not your average metallic bag. The fabric is called 'broken mirror' and the look is dramatic.
