All-New Lancia Ypsilon to debut in Geneva

Italy's premium automaker Lancia is coming to Geneva with a slew of new debuts. Principal among them is the luxurious, yet compact new Ypsilon hatchback.

Joining the Fiat 500 and Alfa Romeo MiTo in Italy's assault on the Mini, the Ypsilon offers a five-door package with a three-door shape and a luxuriously-appointed cabin for a more upscale feel. LED dashboard lighting, large sunroof and noise-absorbing headliner do their part, as do the latest electronics, from the "magic parking" system to the Blue&Me TomTom Live dashboard system.

Lancia Brings Chryslers to Geneva

Lancia Brings Chryslers to Geneva

If Chryslers have never quite been able to reach the level of Lincolns and Cadillacs in the North American market, they've had even more trouble crossing the Atlantic to take on stiff competition from Europe's finest. Meanwhile Fiat's Lancia division has been struggling with a weak model range. The solution, however, could come in their cooperation.

Through the marriage of Chrysler and Fiat (Lancia's parent company), the two brands have been unified under common leadership and are now beginning to integrate their line-ups on both sides of the ocean. At the upcoming Geneva Motor Show, Lancia will unveil rebadged versions of several Chrysler models: the Lancia Thema (aka Chrysler 300), Lancia Flavia and Flavia Cabrio (Chrysler 200 sedan and convertible) and Lancia Grand Voyager (carrying the same name as the Chrysler minivan).

Lancia will also be unveiling a subtly facelifted version of the Delta, as well as the all-new Ypsilon hatchback, making this one very busy show for the Italian automaker.

Fiat Hopes To Attract Luxe Buyers To $17,000 Fiat 500 With Style

Fiat Hopes To Attract Luxe Buyers To $17K Fiat 500 With StyleCan a car priced between $15,500 and $17,500 be of much interest to the typical luxury buyer?

It can if it's Italian and will soon be offered as a convertible and electric vehicle.

The new car is the Fiat 500, and it will start showing up in Fiat "Studios" any day now, starting in Los Angeles, and extending to 130 dealerships by the end of the year. Fiat USA's website has a full list of dealer locations.

The 500, of course, is the U.S. version of the Fiat Cinquecento that is offered today in Europe. The car seats four, has a 1.4 liter multi-air engine and comes offered in ten exterior colors and ten interiors. If you want to have a totally unique Fiat 500 in your neighborhood even if you aren't the only one, then it will be more than possible.

The entry-level car, the 500 "Pop," comes with a manual transmission, as does the mid-level version, the 500 "Sport." if you must have the automatic transmission, then you'll have to go for the top of the line "Lounge" edition.

The automatic was perfectly adequate during Luxist's drive of the car around San Diego, CA. But the manual will provide more driving enjoyment for those who like and can drive with a clutch and shifter.

The 500's EPA ratings are 30 mpg in the city and 38 mpg on highway. That's for the manual.
Cars equipped with the six-speed self-shifter will only achieve 27/34 mpg.

Fiat is making its re-entry to the U.S. after a 27 year hiatus. The Italian automaker in 2009 took control of U.S. automaker Chrysler as part of the company's bailout from the U.S. government and subsequent bankruptcy reorganization. Fiat is leveraging the Chrysler dealer network to re-introduce Fiat to American consumers, though the Fiat studios are, in many cases, in separate buildings from the Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep lineups.

Chrysler To Expand Overseas Under the Lancia Name

Chrysler may be known as the "other" luxury marque here in America, but overseas it's hardly known at all. So with a new roster of vehicles on offer, Chrysler is changing it strategy for foreign markets. Teaming up with industrial partner Fiat, Chryslers will be sold overseas under the Lancia name.

The range – including Lancia versions of the 200 and 300 sedans and the Town & Country minivan – are anticipated to be unveiled, along with the new Ypsilon premium hatchback, at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show in March.

Lancia Ypsilon and Musa Diva Collection

In its never ending campaign to position their cars as the fashionable choice, Italian automaker Lancia has launched two new versions of its tiny Musa and Ypsilon cars called the Diva Collection.

Just what sets the Diva models apart from the standard models is beyond us, since the Italian-only press release doesn't tell us much. But there appears to be some chrome involved, and a range of low-output engines below 100 horsepower on offer. The pair of special editions are set to appear in a new television ad campaign.

Lancia Delta Hard Black Edition

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

European customers looking for a more elegant, subtle premium hatchback have a new option on their hands: the Lancia Delta Hard Black. Based on the Delta, the Hard Black edition features matte black paint and a black interior done up in leather and Alcantara micro-suede. Chrome trim offsets the decidedly un-glossy paint scheme, while the 18-inch alloys can be had in black or silver finish to the buyer's taste.

The Hard Black edition Delta also comes with a host of optional equipment as standard, and with either a 200-horsepower, 1.8-liter, direct-injection turbo gasoline engine or a 190-horsepower, 1.8-liter turbo diesel. Prices start at 31,300 euros, or about $40k in American greenbacks. Though for the time being Lancia doesn't market in North America, its partnership with Chrysler could bring the Delta to American shores in the near future.

Lancia Speedboat Launches at Venice Film Festival

Cars and Venice don't mix. More than any other, it's the one city on this planet in which a car will get you absolutely nowhere. Lancia thinks it has the solution, though. The Italian automaker shares its name with the motorized runabouts that serve Venetians with their transportation needs, and has launched a launch of its own this weekend at the film festival there which it sponsors. Called the Lancia di Lancia, we brought you initial news of the vessel's development a few weeks ago, but now the full details along with some truly breathtaking photos have been released to correspond with the festival and the boat's release.

While most inflatable boats are small, the Lancia is anything but. It's over 40 feet long, weighs eight and a half tons and packs two 560-horsepower 6.7-liter common-rail turbo diesel engines. It's capable of transporting 11 passengers in unsurpassed elegance and speed, with teak decks, a retractable roof, plenty of sun decks and even accommodations for two below decks. The 1120HP Motor Launch from Lancia

What's the matter, was 1050 horsepower not enough for your taste? Then feast your eyes on this: the Lancia di Lancia. Although powered by two six-cylinder turbo diesels instead of the Powershore Abarth SP's three V8 outboards, the Lancia powerboat produced by the same collaboration with SACS Marine responsible for sister-company Abarth's speedboat offers up 1120 horsepower to the Abarth's 1050.

The motor launch from Lancia, as it's called, is also wrapped in a sleeker package, with inboard engines and a covered cockpit accessible through the retractable windshield and Martini Racing stripes recalling the company's historic rally victories. Like its sister-ship, however, the Lancia di Lancia is a Rigid Inflatable Boat – basically a hard hull with a rubber tube around it. The vessel measures over 40 feet long, weighs 8.5 metric tons and can reach speeds in excess of 55 miles per hour. The Lancia di Lancia is scheduled to debut during the upcoming 66th International Film Festival in Venice at the Grand Hotel Excelsior next month.
