The Polaris Floor Lamp is more like a piece of art than a lamp. Made of lacquered nylon that has been rotationally molded, it's a modern, clean piece that would work well in a corner or next to a bed or sofa. The lamp pivots, "revealing a different fluid vertical form on its satin steel footprint base." No fancy bulbs required, just one 300-watt halogen bulb (included). For atmosphere, use the floor dimmer.Filed under: Decor
Today, my friend Art Donovan from Donovan Design out in Southampton, New York sent me pictures of his latest design. This new lamp is his first in a style known as Steampunk. Steampunk combines modern technology with a style sensibility taken from the Victorian era. The new lamp is called the Siddartha Pod Lantern and Art reports that is it the most labor intensive lamp he has ever worked on. He spent several months designing and creating the lamp from solid bass, copper and mahogany. It is over four feet tall and signed and dated, engraved in brass at the top. The lamp sells for $23,000.Filed under: Decor

The Zettel'z 5 light will not only illuminate your home or office, but it will also provide a conversation piece and interesting focal point because you can actually do some reading while admiring this lamp. It's made up of 80 sheets of Japanese paper hung in such a way to disguise the bulb inside, diffusing the light in an interesting way. Designed in 1997 by Ingo Maurer, 49 of the paper sheets are printed and 31 are blank, and the rest of the lamp is made of stainless steel and satin-frosted glass. £571Filed under: Decor

The Blow Table Lamp: Here an otherwise fairly unremarkable table lamp gets a stylish and artsy upgrade simply by sticking it inside a glass bubble. What is it about glass domes that make whatever is inside so much more interesting? This lamp has a modern and functional appeal, and comes in a few different styles and sizes. And the best part about table lamps, their flexibility, remains intact -- you can control the position and angle of the lamp by moving an attached magnet that sits on the outside of the bubble.
