Lamborghini Gallardo Tricolore

As promised, Lamborghini is launching a new special edition of its Gallardo supercar to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Italian unification.

The special model, called the Gallardo Tricolore, follows the previous Bicolore edition announced last month. But unlike the two-tone latter, the former is distinguished by a white base paint with carbon-fiber mirror housings and an off-center stripe in the red, white and green of the Italian flag running over its top and through the cabin.

No word yet on pricing or availability, but the smart money's on a limited run of 150 examples. Official announcement on which version of the 5.2-liter V10 engine (550, 560 or 570 metric horsepower, driving all four wheels or just the rear, and through a manual or e-gear transmission) has yet to be made, but the car is set to debut at a special event in Turin next week.

Lamborghini Gallardo Now Available for Lease

Want to get your hands on a new Lamborghini, but can't afford the six figures it takes to put one in your driveway? The exotic Italian automaker is now offering a leasing program.

For 27 months and 3,500 miles per year, you can lease one of four variants of the Gallardo: the LP560-4 Coupe or Spyder, the LP570-4 Superleggera, or the rear-drive LP550-2. (The Murcielago has been discontinued, and with the Aventador sold out for the next year, it doesn't look like Lamborghini will be looking to lease it out.) If this sounds like your cup of tea, better hurry up, because the pilot program expires at the end of March.

Celebrity Chef's Lamborghini Stolen in Daring Heist at San Francisco Dealership

Cars get stolen all the time, but a few elements about this story make it stand out. First of all, this was no ordinary car. Secondly, it didn't belong to just anyone. And thirdly, it wasn't stolen with a simple coat hanger and a pair of pliers.

The story coming in from San Francisco reports the theft of a yellow 2008 Lamborghini Gallardo belonging to celebrity chef Guy Fieri from a local exotic car dealership. According to the report, police figure the thief climbed up onto the roof of the dealership, rappelled down on a rope, busted open the garage door and drove off with the Lamborghini.

Lamborghini Aventador & Ferrari Four Sold Out for 2011

Can't decide between the Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 and the Ferrari Four? One's a front-engined hatchback and the other a mid-engined wedge, but form factor aside, the two have more in common than you might think. They've both got new V12 engines bigger than six liters and with over 600 horsepower. They're both all-wheel drive, each tops the range from arch-rival exotic Italian automakers and cost upwards of $300,000. So which one would you take?

Even if you have the cash on hand, you'll still have a while to think it over. Because according to reports, they're both sold out for the rest of the year. Lamborghini earmarked 700 units for 2011, Ferrari 800. But they've all reportedly been spoken for. So take your time deciding which you like better. And then buy both. Hey, if you're gonna dream, might as well dream big.

2011 Geneva Motor Show: The Supercars

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

Geographically located in between the supercar capitals of Europe, Switzerland is where the world's automakers come to showcase the latest array of mouth-watering, bank-balance-tempting exotic sports cars. And this year's Geneva Motor Show didn't disappoint in the least.

In between all those luxury sedans, upscale sport-utes and premium hatchbacks were a blinding assortment of six-figure supercars seemingly capable of bending the very laws of physics. Standing out from the crowd were brand-new offerings from Ferrari, Lamborghini and Pagani, new takes on old favorites from Maserati, Aston Martin and Jaguar, concept cars from Alfa Romeo, BMW and Wiesmann and more.

We went to Geneva to check them out with our own eyes (and lens) – follow the jump to see what we found, and click the images to view the full galleries from our sister-site Autoblog.

Ferraris, Bentleys, Astons and More at Gooding's Amelia Island Sale
Back in December my colleague Noah Joseph previewed some of the notable early consignments at Gooding & Company's Amelia Island sale. Now with the auction date of March 11 looming we have details on starring lots added in the interim. Recent additions to the stunning lineup include an extraordinary "barn find" 1955 Bentley R-Type Continental Fastback with coachwork by H.J. Mulliner; a highly-original and unrestored 1961 Aston Martin DB4 Series IV; and a 1962 AC Cobra. They join other incredible offerings including a 1971 Lamborghini Miura P400 SV Prototype, a 1963 Lotus 23B and a 1964 Ferrari 250 GT Lusso (above).

"A true connoisseur's car, the Bentley R-Type Continental Fastback has a place in the world's finest collections," says David Gooding, President and founder. "This recently-discovered, two-owner R-Type is the ultimate collector's Bentley for its role in luxury motoring history and sophisticated performance specification." Gooding have not released estimates for the Bentley or Miura, but expect the bidding to be fierce. Meanwhile the Aston Martin's estimate is $425,000 - $475,000; the AC Cobra $450,000 - $550,000; the Lotus $175,000 - $225,000; and the Ferrari 250 GT Lusso $600,000 - $750,000.

VW Closing Purchase of Porsche. Still Eyeing Alfa-Romeo

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

porscheGerman automaker Volkswagen this week is expected to complete its long-planned $4.5 billion acquisition of luxury sports car maker Porsche. When the ink is dry, it will formally add Porsche to a brand stable that includes Audi, Bentley, Lamborghini and Bugatti, as well as mass-market brands Volkswagen, Skoda and Seat.

And VW AG supervisory board chairman, billionaire Ferdinand Piech (grandson of Porsche founder Ferdinand Porsche) isn't through trying to add premium and luxury brands. At the Geneva Motor Show this week Piech reiterated his interest in acquiring Italian brand Alfa Romeo, owned by Fiat, despite public statements by Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne that the marque is not for sale.

Lamborghini Aventador: New Italian Super Car Laid Bare

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

lamborghini aventadorLoosen up your checkbooks. Italian super-car builder Lamborghini is expected to unveil its new Aventador next week at the Geneva Motor Show. The Aventador is the successor to the Murcielago, which went out of production last November, having finished off a decade long run of 4,099 cars produced.

Though the "Aventador" name is still technically unconfirmed by Lamborghini, it is known that the company trademarked the name. Industry sources say the new flagship super-car will produce around 700 horsepower from a new 12-cylinder engine, reach 62 mph in just 2.7 seconds, and reach a top end of 217 mph.

By featuring and celebrating each car's beauty and history in a contemporary environment online with fellow enthusiasts, Dimostra also hopes to educate younger generations on the historical significance of the cars, "ultimately protecting their long term collectability and value." Mauro Lecchi & Fenice Milano Team Up to Build Lamborghini-Inspired Motoryacht

When we first saw images of Mauro Lecchi's design for a Lamborghini motoryacht, we were suitably impressed, but we didn't think it would ever grace the water. Turns out we were mistaken, because the first example has been commissioned and is currently under construction.

The design takes its cues from Lamborghini sportscars and translates them into a 50-foot express power yacht – and an impressive one at that – made out of lightweight carbon-Kevlar. Fenice Milano – the same outfit responsible for those guilded Fiats and Rolls-Royces – has been brought in to work the interior, so you know it will be as outlandish as the exterior is menacing. We've updated the image gallery below with additional renderings as well as pictures of the vessel under construction, so why not take a look for yourself.

Lamborghini Hard Drive by Asus

Lamborghini Hard Drive by Asus

If you're driving a Lamborghini sportscar, you might as well pick up a Lamborghini laptop computer to go with it. But what do you do if your Lamborghini laptop doesn't have enough storage capacity? Why, you get a Lamborghini hard drive, too!

Like the branded Lamborghini mobile phone and the aforementioned laptops, the new external hard drive is made by Taiwanese electronics company Asus, and features a design inspired by the exotic supercars. It will be available in 500GB and 750GB sizes, with either high-speed USB 2.0 or SuperSpeed USB 3.0 connectivity. But with prices starting at around $120 for the 500GB USB 2.0 version, they cost nearly twice as much as a competing device without the supercar styling.

Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 coming to Geneva

Details are trickling in as Lamborghini prepares to unveil its new supercar at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show. The car tentatively known as the Aventador LP700-4 will replace the discontinued Murcielago, and is confirmed to get a new 6.5-liter V12 engine driving 700 horsepower to all four wheels through a new type of ISR transmission and F1-style pushrod suspension that promises to deliver blistering performance.

With the details confirmed, what we're waiting for at this point is the car's design. The spy shot above has been circulating, showing the Aventador in its near-final form but with swirly camouflage disguising its shape. What we can tell is that it will be suitably aggressive in its shape, with edgy angles inspired by the million-dollar Reventon.

Lamborghini Gallardo Bicolore Edition

Lamborghini Gallardo Bicolore Edition

As predicted by earlier reports, Lamborghini has announced a new special edition of its Gallardo supercar. Called the Bicolore edition, the special Gallardo features a two-tone paint scheme with black roof and other details contrasting with the available orange (pictured), yellow, blue, silver or white body color.

The two-tone scheme is repeated inside with black leather highlighted by contrasting stitching to match the exterior color. The model is being unveiled at the Qatar Motor Show, and will be available in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region in LP 560-4 guise with 560 horsepower and all-wheel drive, and in North America as the LP 550-2 with the 550hp V10 and rear-wheel drive previously reserved for the Balboni edition.

Lamborghini Sesto Elemento for Sale at $2.5 Million

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

The super-cool Sesto Elemento concept car unveiled by Lamborghini at the Paris Motor Show in September has been listed for sale by a Moscow exotic auto dealer via online global luxury marketplace JamesList for about $2.5 million. Though not exactly street legal, that's of no consequence if you're an oligarch with your own a private racetrack, of course. The name Sesto Elemento stands for the sixth element in the periodic table, i.e. carbon, and references Lamborghini's mastery of carbon fiber technology.

The supercar weighs only 999 kg making for an impressive power-to-weight ratio of just 1.75 kilograms per hp in conjunction with the V10 powerplant producing 570 hp. It can do 0 – 62 mph in just 2.5 seconds and hit a top speed of nearly 190 mph, though with lower fuel consumption and thus lower emissions than a heavier vehicle. The carbon fiber theme carries over to the interior as well, finishing the doors, cockpit and center console. Lamborghini has said that the car may go into a limited production run of 20 examples for track use only, but that will likely take a while.
