RSVIP: Indulged Tweens Rock Z100's The Jingle Ball

justin bieberOnce a year, Manhattan's media elite get a request from young power brokers . . . tweens, in fact. Z100's The Jingle Ball, a concert sponsored by the local radio station and H&M at Madison Square Garden, included the sizzling youth acts of 2010: Justin Bieber, right, B.o.B, Bruno Mars, Michael Bublé, Taio Cruz ("Break Your Heart"), Selena Gomez, Enrique Iglesias, and Katy Perry.

As the date of the concert approaches, the children of stars and media moguls begin asking for tickets from their power Moms and Dads. Harvey Weinstein, of the Weinstein Company film studio, currently lobbying for such Oscar hopefuls as "Blue Valentine," and "The King's Speech," took time out to usher his brood. Luxist also spotted Charlie Walk, former head of Epic Records, with his family.

"My 11-year-old said, 'Mom, the Jingle Ball is coming. And I want you to take me to that, because you didn't take me to Eminem,'" Rosie O'Donnell told Luxist backstage on Friday. "And then I called and said, 'It's Rosie. Can I have four tickets?' And they said, 'No. You can't get the tickets. You have to win them. They're all given away.' So I went to a charity, and I bought them. And my son had the nerve to ask me if I had good seats. Does that mean I'm spoiling him?"

She accessorized the dress with Baccarat "Rock" Stud earrings in Ruby ($375); a Le Vian 18K Strawberry Gold Diamond Bracelet, ($23,947.50); and Le Vian 18K White Gold Diamond Bracelet ($12,097.50) as well as her new thick gold and diamond wedding band. Katy Perry's Statement Making Manicure

When it comes to Katy Perry's MTV Video Music Awards outfit it's hard to know where to look, but the hands are a pretty good place to start. Perry's nails were emblazoned with pictures of her fiance Russell Brand. To complement her unique manicure on one hand she wore her dazzling diamond engagement ring and on the other hand a M.C.L. by Matthew Campbell Laurenza "Pave Heart" ring. Given the couple's love of black, a black sapphire heart seems appropriate. This ring sells for $1,140. It has been making the rounds lately, it was also shown part of Jessica Alba's photo shoot for September's Cosmopolitan.

Volkswagen Seeks To Recapture Brand Allure in Times Square With Jetta Launch

Volkswagen
of America today took over Times Square in Manhattan and employed singer Katy Perry to introduce the 2011 Jetta, a car that will be built at the company's Puebla Mexico plant and represents a new era for the German company in America.

The new Jetta, showcased in what VW of America CEO Stefan Jacoby called an "urban oasis" in the middle of Times Square, was greeted by a few thousand media, fans and tourists who were in the neighborhood.

The Volkswagen Jetta certainly does not qualify as premium or luxury in the traditional sense. After all, the new Jettas pricing starts at $16,000, even less than the starting price of the current model in showrooms today. But Volkswagen is a brand that represents what many marketing analysts call well positioned to take advantage of a trend that finds consumers who have previously bought luxury goods and brands trading down in price to brands that still have cachet.

"I am actually very enthusiastic about Volkswagen's strategy and opportunity if they can get the marketing and advertising image work right," says Los Angles-based marketing consultant Dennis Keene. "For a lot of people who perhaps previously were buying BMW 3 Series, Mercedes C Class and even Lexus ES 350s, well-packaged Volkswagens that still represent solid German engineering is a place people can trade down to in price without sacrificing brand acceptance."

Adds Keene, "In VW's heyday of the 1960s, people who were affluent owned Beetles and Karmann Ghias alongside much more expensive vehicles because of the social currency and relevance the brand carried...they can get back to that if they do things right," says Keene.

The Blonds Outfit Special Mini Cabrio for 2009 Life Ball

Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos, Charity, Celebrity Design

Automakers have plenty of reasons to create special editions. Sometimes they're celebrating an anniversary, sometimes a monumental race victory, or sometimes they're just looking to boost sales. Mini, on the other hand, creates a special edition of its retro hatchback every year to raise money for HIV/AIDS. The cars are always styled by a different designer, and sold in conjunction with the Life Ball, Europe's premier HIV/AIDS fundraiser, to raise money for the charity. Following previous editions outfitted by Versace, Diesel and Agent Provocateur, this year's Mini Life Ball special was designed by The Blonds, known in Hollywood for clothing pop stars. Their inspiration for the pink leopard print design was Katy Perry, the pop sensation famous for the hit song "I Kissed A Girl", who will be performing at this year's gala in Vienna on May 17. The one-of-a-kind Mini will be raffled off at the event.
