Kate Spade Sherwood Owl Handbag, Handbag of the Day

handbagA decidedly autumnal palette meets a wise character in Kate Spade's Sherwood Owl Handbag. A mixture of patent leather and suede, this unique bag is both fun and smart bringing the owl to life with bright eyes and two little feet poking out beneath the lower edge. The interior is fully lined with silk and features both a zippered and open pockets to keep your things organized. The three-inch drop double handles complete the design. I love the texture and comfortable beauty encompassed by the layers of material and the price isn't half bad either -- $425! (14" x 14" x 5")

Kate Spade Jitney Coin Purse - Small Splurge

We feature a lot of fantastic handbags, but what about what you keep inside your handbag? Here's a small splurge, just in time for summer (which I am so ready for after a cold, cold East Coast winter!). Kate Spade's cute and colorful Jitney Coin Purse, named after NYC's Hampton Jitney bus line, comes in two patterns, both with a summer theme: SPF (this page) and G&T (see below). The coin purse is cotton canvas with smooth cowhide trim and features a zipper closure and 14-karat light gold plated hardware. Unlined; 2.4" H x 3.5" W; $50.

Kate Spade Women's Charlottesville Malea ToteThe Kate Spade Women's Charlottesville Malea Tote is an elegant, refreshingly basic tote for spring.

You might call this a "safe" tote, which makes it an excellent investment piece. Made from smooth, shiny cowhide (or so they say, but have you ever seen a green cow? I didn't think so.)(Yes, I'm kidding.), the bag has simple lines, charming tassels, and gold-toned hardware.

The perforated details and subtle Kate Spade namestamp keep this functional bag feminine. The 13.75"W x 10.25"H x 5.25"D bag also has a floral lining, complementing the grassy shade of the luxurious cowhide.

The Kate Spade Women's Charlottesville Malea Tote is available from Bloomingdales for $395.

Kate Spade Store Opening Totes, Handbags of the Day

Kate Spade's "store opening totes" is a collection of 7 individually designed canvas tote bags created in commemoration of the opening of several new Kate Spade stores around the country. Each bag is available in a limited edition of only 50 and is not only designed in honor of its specific store's location (this "stop and smell the roses" bag is representative of its store's home in Portland, Oregon) but is also only available in that individual store for purchase. So if you're looking to have a collection of all 7 bags you better get ready for a cross-country travel spree.

This artificial crocodile design representing the Everglades in Florida is my favorite.

Introducing a twist to the classic basket weave summer tote, Kate Spade used patent leather for the weave in her Sao Paolo Small Coal Tote. In red, white or orange (pictured), the bag captures a small piece of the flair of one of the most populated cities in the world, Sao Paolo, Brazil. The bag is unstructured and has an open top. There is one interior pocket in the signature larabee dot cotton twill lining, but the rest of the tote remains open and waiting to be packed with books and sunglasses for relaxing day trips or trinkets collected at an international, open-air market. Gin Rummy Drink Set

If asked to name popular card games, gin rummy would probably not make the top five. That said, the game does carry a touch of old fashioned sophistication that works well with Kate Spade's Gin Rummy Drink Set. She has a whiskey decanter ($125), a set of highballs ($100 for 4) and a set of cordial glasses ($50 for 4), all made of full lead crystal that has been etched with the shapes of card suits. The decanter, which is topped with a rectangular crystal stopper, stands 11" high and holds 32-oz.

Kate Spade Holiday Plates

Kate Spade clearly knows that few things are more festive than brightly colored holiday lights, so she used them as the main pattern on her holiday accent plates. The 9-inch china plates work with her Rutherford Circle line of tableware, but the plates can also be used on their own, for dinner or dessert, and can be matched up with other white dinnerware if you already have such collection. The plates come in a set of four and are dishwasher safe. Price: $80.

Kate Spade Larabee Road Cups and Saucers

Kate Spade's Larabee Road pattern, which covers this After Dinner Cup and Saucer Set, seems guaranteed to bring a smile to the face of anyone served with one. Sold in a set of four with red, yellow green and pink polka dots, the pieces have a sense of fun about them that is not often found in after-dinner cups, a typically staid delineation of the tableware world. Use them for cappuccinos or tea, or bring them out with a breakfast service for coffee and scones. The set is also available in a bright stripe pattern. Price: $75.

Kate Spade Oak Park Erin, Handbag of the Day

The Kate Spade Oak Park Erin handbag is basically a simple clutch that has had a strap added to it to make it a little easier to carry. It measures only 3.6" x 10.6" x 3.2" and the strap, which has an almost 7 inch drop, makes it seem tiny. The bag comes in ruby (pictured) and chocolate and is made of Italian suede with cotton lining. It has a zip top and gold hardware, including tiny feet on the bottom of the bag to protect the suede, although you may never actually set this bag down when you are out with it. Price: $275.

Kate Spade Siena Medium Serena, Handbag of the Day

Maybe it is a little bit of practicality lurking behind the love of fancy handbags, but even when I know how many really fantastic handbags there are for this season - and in general - it's nice to have at least one classic, everyday shoulderbag. Kate Spade's Siena Medium Serena fits the bill nicely, with classic lines, comfortable shoulder strap and a structured, reinforced bottom that will hold up well to everyday use without banging the contents of the bag around. There are also several interior pockets that will help keep you organized and provide room for things you need on a daily basis, like cell phones, pdas, pens and perhaps even reading glasses. The bag is made of waxed, natural cowhide and features a colorful nylon web detail, with a cotton twill lining and gold hardware. Price: $485.
