Ferrari P4/5 Competizione Under Construction
Filed under: Luxury Cars & Autos

Once upon a time, a gentleman racer could drive his race car to the track, trounce the competition, and then drive it home. But safety regulations have long since put an end to such a practice. So what's a modern gentleman racer to do? In the case of one Jim Glickenhaus, the answer is simple enough: build two! One for road, and one for race.
Ferrari aficionados will remember Glickenhaus for giving birth to the P4/5, a one-of-a-kind supercar that drew its inspiration from the iconic P3/4 of yore, built atop the chassis of the all-conquering Ferrari Enzo. But the original P3/4 – of which Glickenhaus owns two – was a street-legal racing machine, so to satisfy his competition desires, he's commissioned a second car to be built for the track.
The P4/5 Competizione, unlike its Enzo-based forebear, is based on the F430, taking the chassis from the 430 Scuderia and the engine from the race-spec F430 GT2. It's currently under construction, previewed by the rendering above. And the best part is that when he's done racing it, the Competizione will be converted back to road use.
