The $60 Million iPad-Controlled Gulfstream G550 Private Jet

Spain-based industrial designer Stefan Radev has given the $60 million Gulfstream G550 private jet a makeover, including cool iPad controls à la P. Diddy's Solemates superyacht. From the exterior livery to the seating arrangements, Radev's design scheme is simple, elegant and ergonomic. It's also full of eco-friendly touches like bamboo woodwork.

Natural light is emphasized in the airy interior design with oversized oval-shaped windows and neutral tones complementing the bamboo in an open-plan layout equally suited to working or lounging. iPads and iPods also control the various climate and entertainment functions for the passengers. It's just a concept at this point, but easily made real with enough money.

Haworth Enters the Art and Design World with the Innovative Clouds Collection (with Video)

Haworth, the world's leading manufacturer of high-end organic office furniture and work spaces, has entered the art and design world with the launch of an innovative, interlocking fabric tile that can be used as a sculptural art installation. Called "Clouds", the tiles add design and color to any space and make an ideal replacement or supplement to more traditional forms of art.

Clouds is the result of a collaboration between Kvadrat (a Danish textile manufacturer) and the French-born Bouroullec brothers---Ronan and Erwan, who are leaders in industrial design. Kvadrat's textiles are used worldwide by renowned architects, designers and furniture manufacturers for upholstery and curtains.

The soft-sided tiles are easy to assemble as they are attached to each other by special rubber bands. They are simple to mount, move, change and maintain and can be rearranged as often as you'd like to bring new ideas into a space. The tiles can be hung from a wall or ceiling, placed on the floor, or attached to railings and stairs, adding color, texture, and warmth, in addition to providing sound insulation.

Cipriani Family to Launch Luxe New "Mr. C" Hotel Brand in Beverly Hills

Ignazio and Maggio Cipriani, fourth generation of the famed Cipriani family internationally renowned for its restaurants, landmarked banquet spaces, clubs, and residences, have announced the debut of Mr. C, a chic new signature hotel brand opening its first property in Beverly Hlls this April. Mr. C is designed to be "a modern version of old-world simplicity and stylish European glamour, providing today's traveler with a comfortable, elegant and effortless experience blending contemporary amenities with discreet, personalized service." The 138-room property will feature 12 Signature Suites and Classic Suites, alongside spacious guest rooms ranging from 365–800 square feet, each with a private balcony and many with panoramic views of Beverly Hills and Los Angeles. The interior design aims to be "rich and welcoming" with dark hardwood floors, burgundy and gray color palettes, and crisp white accents. Vintage black and white photographs from films like La Dolce Vita bring iconic and historic cultural moments to life on the walls, and well-appointed bathrooms feature teak flooring, marble accents, and luxe amenities.

Additionally, the property will feature five multi-level, residential-sized bungalows averaging approximately 3,000 square feet, each with a private garden, gourmet kitchen, plunge pool and views of Beverly Hills. Renowned Californian architect Ray Kappe designed the bungalows, which will feature all the Mr. C amenities including spa treatments, housekeeping, and room service from the signature Mr. C restaurant. The restaurant will welcome guests and Angelenos alike with a menu featuring classics from Cipriani's famed kitchens alongside grilled specialties and pizzas from morning to night. The restaurant will offer indoor and outdoor seating, a separate entrance for non-hotel guests, and two private rooms for more intimate occasions. The hotel will also feature an outdoor swimming pool for hotel guests only and an indoor/outdoor private event space boasting 360-degree panoramic city views from the 12th floor of the hotel, with a private exterior glass elevator. Rates will run from $429 for a Deluxe City View room to $2,009 for a Specialty Suite.

The stalls outside the city's Porte de Clignancourt which once played host to farmers and ragpickers today house highly curated collections and attract up to 150,000 visitors each weekend. Assouline has released the latest luxe edition in its American Fashion series, dedicated to the top-drawer designers who are members of the prestigious CFDA. American Fashion Designers at Home showcases the personal spaces of more than 100 fashionistas, including Diane von Furstenburg, Oscar de la Renta, Cynthia Rowley and Kate Spade. While some designer dwellings are extensions of the sensibilities embodied by their apparel collections, others exhibit a marked contrast. The domiciles range from studio apartments to sprawling estates, but all are linked by a keen aesthetic sense. Included are Carolina Herrera's grand Louis XV–influenced New York apartment; Betsey Johnson's girly glamourpuss garret; Ralph Lauren's luxuriously rustic Colorado ranch; Donna Karan's tranquil Turks & Caicos getaway; Tommy Hilfiger's over-the-top Greenwich mansion; Calvin Klein designer Francisco Costa's ultra-modern Manhattan aerie; and Johann Lindeberg's converted Greenwich Village factory (on the book's cover, above). Abigail Ahern of Atelier Abigail Ahern, has an intriguing sense of style. She manages to bring together classical, playful and maybe a bit absurd together in a way that somehow redeems what might be otherwise cast aside. She unveiled her new lamps at this years' Parisian tradeshow MAISON & OBJET. The lamps are produced in the U.K. and are available for purchase internationally at prices from $190-$440. Brooks Brothers Launches Home Decor Collection

One of Luxist's favorite brands, Brooks Brothers, has launched their new home collection. The line takes the clothing maker's classic twills, silks and cottons and applies them to bedding, bath towel and decorative pillows that continue the Brooks Brothers look. The line of decorative pillows use the same look of Brooks Brothers ties to create striped pillows of English silk filled with a blend of white duck feathers and down that sell for $248 to $288.

There are two bedding collections of 330-thread count Supima cotton including the Blue Yarn-dye Bedding Collection which takes its inspiration from Brooks' classic shirt fabrics such as houndstooth, windowpane, glen plaid and pinstripe. The Herringbone Bedding Collection is in white with three-row embroidered border of navy and red. There is also a herringbone-bordered terry bath collection in 12 colors and terry bathrobes which have matching slippers. The entire collection is available on the Brooks Brothers website.

The Ultimate Guide to Scandinavian Style

The work of Lars Bolander, one of Sweden's foremost interior designers whose shops in New York and Palm Beach are oases of good taste, is given its due in a beautiful new book from the Vendome Press. Longtime admirer Martha Stewart calls Lars Bolander's Scandinavian Design "A sophisticated volume" and "an in-depth, intelligent, and informative look at the design sensibilities found in Scandinavian domestic furniture and decoration." She notes that "Bolander surveys all of this with his keen eye and finely honed historical knowledge, and the results are breathtaking." The book serves as a practical, idea-filled room-by-room guide to both classic and new looks in Scandinavian design.

Drawn from Bolander's work on estates and houses all over the world for the past few decades and working from the outside in, the book begins with a study of exterior features such as the use of wood in construction, elaborate doorways, and building in harmony with nature. Successive chapters explore entryways, living rooms, dining rooms, kitchens, bathrooms, and bedrooms. Both traditional and modern design influences are featured, and sidebars throughout highlight specific design elements such as wood stoves, Danish Modern chairs, lighting, textiles, and more.

Jean Paul Gaultier's New Collection for Roche Bobois Featured at Kips Bay Decorator Show House

Jean Paul Gaultier designs collection for Roche Bobois

One you enter the townhouse showcasing the 38th Annual Kips Bay Decorator Show House on the Upper East Side of New York, you can't help but notice the stunning pieces including a striking modular sofa that grace the grand entrance hall. The sofa is unmistakingly Roche Bobois but with a twist. Each of the pieces was designed by Jean Paul Gaultier and part of a collection he exclusively created to commemorate Roche Bobois' 50th anniversary of international design and development. Roche Bobois is the winner of the Luxist Awards' Readers' Choice Award for Best in Furniture.

The Jean Paul Gaultier collection for Roche Bobois includes a bedroom set, sofas, complimentary furniture pieces and accessories. Born in 1952 outside of Paris, Gaultier is an internationally renowned designer and couturier who likes to shake up conventions, redefine classics (as he did most recently for Hermes), and play with opposites.

A centerpiece of the collection is the Mah Jong Couture modular sofa (a portion of which is seen in the image above). The modular composition features hand-made padded cushions, straight and corner backrests. An optional adjustable feature on backrests is available. It is priced at $31,610 for nine elements. Gaultier's hand-trolley mirror, also seen above, features red lacquer and steel tubing. It retails for $2,690. (L. 45 X H. 160 cm.)

Tobi Tobin's Los Angeles Store

Tobi Tobin, an interior designer who defined herself in an LA Times article as Martha Stewart with a rock and roll twist has created a store on Sunset Plaza Drive in Los Angeles that manages to bring together a variety of eras into one sexy-cool shop. Like Stewart, Tobin is a former model who has created a unique brand around her personal aesthetic. We first fell for Tobin's style when we learned she was the designer behind Randolph Duke's ultra-glam Hollywood Hills pad.

The Classicist: Ralph Lauren Re-Launches Famed Rhinelander Mansion in NYC

Ralph Lauren has relaunched his famed flagship in the historic Rhinelander Mansion on Madison Avenue in New York, transforming it into the world's foremost mecca of men's style. Spanning nearly 16,000 square feet, the Mansion, originally converted into an opulent retail palace by Lauren in 1986, now exclusively houses the designer's various men's collections with the company's first Women's and Home flagships due to open across the avenue later this fall. Originally designed in the 1890s by Kimball & Thompson, the the large French Renaissance Revival Mansion is an architectural treasure as well with a classic Beaux Arts façade exemplary of the the Upper East Side's grand architecture.

The new space showcases the Purple Label, Black Label, Polo, RRL and RLX Ralph Lauren collections of men's apparel and accessories, with an emphasis on the most luxurious elements. Service has been stepped up as well, with butlers to serve snacks and drinks on silver trays and a fleet of Mercedes-Benzes to chauffer important clients on shopping trips. The store features a full range of impeccably crafted made-to-measure suits, dress shirts, trousers, topcoats, sport coats and formalwear customized to exacting measurements, and made-to-order accessories and leather goods. Every room in the Mansion has been updated with cinematic decor in keeping with the neoclassical style of the original grand residence, from antiques and fixtures to furniture and art, including 18th- and 19th-century oil portraits and noteworthy photographs from Ralph Lauren's personal collection.

Salmon Skin Upholstery - All the Rage for Eco-Friendly Superyachts

Some people find the very idea of an "eco-friendly superyacht" simply ridiculous. If you're willing to accept that a floating monument to conspicuous consumption can somehow be good for the environment however, you'll probably agree that it should have a decor to match. Hence the growing trend in "guilt-free" luxury furnishings designed to take the edge off all that over-spending. The latest of these is salmon skin leather (above), being touted as an environmentally-friendly, ecologically sound and cruelty-free upholstery suitable for the finest superyacht interiors. The leader in the field is a German company called Nanai, which sources the skins from fish raised on certified organic salmon farms in Ireland.

With an appearance similar to python skin, salmon hide looks convincingly like exotic leather when vegetable-tanned and dyed (and deodorized). It's light and thin, yet durable and resistant to tearing. As the skins form a by-product of the salmon industry, the fish are not specifically bred or killed for the stuff – which might keep eco-crusaders happy if they weren't opposed to salmon farming to begin with. It remains to be seen whether oligarchs like Roman Abramovich will send their superyachts back to have their stingray and alligator upholstery swapped for salmon skin. Cue the cracks about "something fishy" but don't hold your breath.

Inside Design Duo Badgley Mischka's Kentucky Equestrian Estate

This month's issue of Elle Decor offers an inside look at famed fashion design duo Badgley Mischka's horsey estate in Kentucky, embodying a perfect example of haute equestrian style. Three years ago the New York-based designers, Mark Badgley and James Mischka, whose fans include the Olsen Twins, Lauren Hutton and Brooke Shields, traded in their house in the Hamptons for a 1920s estate in Kentucky horse country near Lexington. They renovated the limestone-and-clapboard Dutch Colonial Revival house (above) on 15 rolling acres and added top-class equestrian facilities with an interior design scheme to match, naming it Moon Stone Farm. A screened porch along one side was totally remodeled, a downstairs bedroom suite was converted into a chic library, and the kitchen and baths were redone in sleek marble. Claridge's Unveils First Diane von Furstenburg - Designed Suite

Back in March we reported that famed fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg had signed on for her first interior design project, a series of rooms and suites for Claridge's, the ultra-luxe Art Deco hotel in London's Mayfair. Now the hotel has unveiled the first of the DVF-designed spaces, the legendary Piano Suite (above). The designer created custom pieces including a dressing table, travelling trunk, desk and cocktail bar, inspired by her glamorous travels and the mobility of campaign furniture, complementing the architectural details and elegant marble fireplace. "Claridge's is the most glamorous hotel in the world," says von Furstenberg. "Hotels like this don't exist anymore and the legacy must be respected! It is very important to keep the original architecture and the formality of the layout of the rooms in order to preserve the old style of grand hotel life that I love so much. It has been a true privilege to design new furniture, fabrics and rugs to keep it relevant for today's needs and taste."

Thom Filicia To Unveil New Art Line

Designer and television personality Thom Filicia is on a creating role lately. Last month we mentioned that he has a collection of fabrics for Kravet for its to-the-trade home furnishings lines, now he's creating a new art collection.

Filicia is best known as being the designer on "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" and currently appears on "Tacky House" on the Style network. Filicia and Ed Marin of Soicher Marin began working together last year. According to Home Accents Today, Filicia traveled to Sarasota, Florida in early July to work with Marin to finish the line which will be unveiled at the High Point Market in October (check out behind the scenes shots of the pair at work on the Soicher Marin blog). No visuals yet but look for a little minimalist designs that incorporate both nature scenes and industrialist images along with a heavy dose of nostalgia. Soicher Marin also works with other designers including Suzanne Kasler, Jamie Drake and Mariette Himes Gomez.

Filicia is fast becoming a one man empire. He also sells the Thom Filicia Home Collection made by Vanguard which includes a mix of living, dining and bedroom pieces. His rug collection for Safavieh spans the range from more formal rugs to casual rugs including some woven with yarns made from recycled soda bottles.
