Lansdowne Resort Sneaks In One More Inauguration Package

Filed under: Luxury Travel & Hotels

I thought we were done with the six-figure presidential inauguration hotel packages but the Lansdowne Resort in Virginia has just announced another one. The package however is more about being treated in "presidential style" than about the event itself. The package which is priced at $200,900, a portion of which will be donated to the U.S.O., includes three nights in a presidential suite for two, as well as three additional rooms for two people each. Guests be given round trip private air transportation for up to eight people, via NetJets, from any destination in the continental U.S. The suite will have a full bar, caviar, Chicago deep dish pizza and a 60-inch flat screen high definition TV for watching swearing-in ceremonies. Other treats include daily breakfast buffet, private fitness sessions, nightly premium cigars and brandy by the Great Room fireplace or outdoor fire-pit and a private shopping tour to Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue with a personal assistant. The package also includes spa treatments, inaugural souvenirs from Washington-based jewelry designer Ann Hand and a case of private label Loudoun County Virginia wine. The main event of the stay is a private party for 200 people which will include the same Hawaiian specialties featured at the President's Hawaii State Inaugural Ball, as well as dinner, drinks, and a live orchestra.

NY Philharmonic Director Charges $50,000 A Night For Inauguration Stay

Yesterday I mentioned Washington D.C. residents hoping to cash in by renting out their apartments during inauguration week. They've been easily trumped by New York Philharmonic music director Lorin Maazel and his wife who are offering their country estate in Virginia for a whopping $50,000 a night during the presidential inauguration. For your money you can enjoy the Castleton Retreat which is about 90 minutes from Washington D.C. Transportation will be provided as part of the package which also includes a concert at the Maazel's private theatre featuring The Amstel Quartet from The Netherlands on Sunday, January 18. The property can accommodate 50 guests over various cottages and houses. There is also a spa facility with a large heated swimming pool, a Turkish steam room, Finnish sauna, a theater room with a commercial-size movie screen, a bowling alley and a petting zoo. The money will be donated to the Maazels' Chateauville Foundation, which helps train young performance artists.

Washington D.C. Residents Seek Inauguration Week Rental Windfall

Whenever there is a major event in a city there will be people who try to cash in on the fact that they live nearby. Each year the Super Bowl brings a brisk rental business to whatever town it is being held in so it stands to reason that the upcoming Presidential inauguration would be a boom time for those who live near Capitol Hill. But the economy has reared its ugly head and there are still places to stay. D.C. resident Adam McKay set ups a website for Capitol Hill homeowners called inaugurationhomes.com with more than 40 places to stay listed. So far he has had no takers, partly because prices on his site start at $500 for a very modest studio apartment. You'll do a little better pricewise on the Washington DC Craigslist although prices are ambitiously high there too. The bottom line is that while hotels may be booked in the area, houses and apartments are ready to take your money during inauguration week and they may even be willing to drop their prices in the coming days.
